Same feeling here (Europe guy watching) Would've liked to see how the race to 3rd unfolded. Especially since it was a huge upset and a great result by this young conti rider :)

Plapp looked pretty fresh, maybe something to do with not being alone on the road for over 100km 😂 I reckon durbo spent more energy

Turns out if all you gotta do is follow people for like 150km and do the bare minimum youre gonna be fresher then the guy whos been out there smashing it solo

I understand it. I would also have loved to see plapp in the national jersey but durbridge lives only 3km away from the finish so this was basically a home race, that's why plapp put his record aside ( 4 times champion in a row) to gift this win to durbo....beautifull sportmanship if you ask me

Durbridge pulled the peleton for over 2 hours. Plap sat on a wheel in the peleton for that time. That's how he was able to catch but no one else could. It's a team sport and they helped eachother but Durbridge did more, which is why he got the win.

Very often the best racer in a country isn't the one in national kit. I mean look at the us, nothing against Sean Quinn but he's not as good as mcnulty. The last 4 Dutch champs aren't mvdp and he's clearly their best rider. Durbo earned that by holding off everyone, you wouldn't be making the same statement if plapp didn't bridge late to help his TEAMMATE. If you look at durbo in that kit after all the work he put in to get there and don't feel pride in it you need to reevaluate. You should be happy to see someone willing to risk it all early despite the odds come out on top. You should see someone who has the persistence and the self belief to go after what no one thought they could do.

I am sure he will repay him with suffering this season

Yeah I'm lucky enough not to recognise the whole jayco team (when they're in their matching kit + helmet + sunnies) so knowing it was one of them wasn't too much of a spoiler but it still makes the highlights less interesting :(

It was more like team tactics where Durbridge was given chance to ride for himself which he did heroically solo on home state. Plappy's team role was to cover anyone's move in the peleton. This was team's tactic and each played different role, Plappy's move at the end was to ensure his team gets 1-2 finish and to Durbridge's credit he was able to still hang on while of course Plappy's team play pretty much earned him much respect. Cant you see the difference where Jay Vine and Hindley had no team mates?

What? They were riding is a team. Plapp would have never been in the situation he was in if Durbridge hadn't been out front all day forcing Vine and Hindley to chance while Plapp sat on wheels... It's a team sports.

I'm not sure if you really understand how cycling works, but that was an example of perfect team tactics, and a very well deserved win by Luke Durbridge.
