Hi!
I’m Jennifer but most people just call me “Jenn”. I use old ways with some new.
I created this channel to share my life experiences with anyone interested.
I love cooking, preserving food, and learning new things.
I wanted to document my experiences and leave my legacy behind once I am gone.
I also enjoy just having fun, spending time with family and friends, and visiting different restaurants, stores, and historical places.
I was born and raised in the Tennessee Appalachian mountains and absolutely love it here although there are often disadvantages of living in a poverty stricken area.
I wrote and self-published my very first book in 2017 (see my book link below).
I am a Independent Online Certified K-6 teacher.

How neat!!! 😊
Thanks! It's really easy!
I love it😊
My mom’s dad and his family were all from there. It’s amazing as some of your family looks like my aunt and some of my relatives. I really hope to go up there sometime and find my family’s graves. Thanks for sharing
Many of the original people here are related somehow. Glad you enjoyed : )
Don’t know why I’m just now seeing this but recently a ton of stink bugs have been coming in MY ROOM ALONE, but I didn’t think they would just let me grab them lol
Ha ha! 😆 It works if you’re not afraid if then. You could also use a vacuum hose but they stink!
My mom and mamaw and papaw lived up behind clonces right before you head up into the mountain. Me and my brothers spent summers at our mamaws and would walk to clonces and get candy and a coke!
Fun times for sure! Do you remember the old phone booth at Clonce’s?
@@jennsappalachianden Yes! My family was Wilson and Mathis.
@@ericowen449 I may have seen you around back then. I think we are kin to Wilson’s.
Excellent tutorial ... thanks for sharing. All the best.
Glad you were able to learn from it! Thanks 😊
That is a lick the plate clean one lol
I need some of this
Why not put the cheesecloth over Mason jar. Pour directly. Won't have to wash lg bowl and strainer.JS. LOVE WHAT YOU DO
Great idea! You could do that also. I may try that next time :)
Great video ! I live in Sneedville, north of town, on the south side of Powell Mountain. I am familiar with both of the stores you showed. I've played pool at the Xenophon Market a number of times. Jean Martin's store was near me on the other side of Powell Mountain, but she closed it recently.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Great place to be! You must be near Haley’s cabin.
@@jennsappalachianden Yes, Route 63 runs along the side of my farm which overlooks Vardy-Blackwater Road in the valley below. Mahala Mullins' cabin is just down that road a little over a mile. Of course it was originally high atop Newman's Ridge. I have friends who remember it being up there, visiting it when they were young, and one of my friends is a great grandson of Mahala.
I love the history there! Have been there a few times but need to do a vid on it! My 3rd gr grandpa was neighbor to Haley in the census. Beautiful place over there!
Thank you for posting this.
I was born in Snedville Tennessee in January 1985 and I still live in Hancock county Tennessee me and my mom/my dad/my brother used to live at Sherm mountain are near Clonce's Market for at or around 5 years and my sister used to live there for a few years with us and we still have a coupl of family members who lives there sadly lots of family including my dad ain't with us anymore but thankfully is in Heaven and sadly the house my mamaw lived in ain't in good condition last time I heard about it so nobody lives in it unless they fixed it and things has changed from how they was years ago so hard to visit family still alive on Earth but we still care and even aftr we left Sherm mountain area we still went there to visit family and still went to Clonces Market sadly its been a long time since I had a chance to go there but its still special in my thoughts and glad its still a store and I hope to go there and visit any family more times 'the reason why we left Sherm mountain as far as being a home there is we didn't own the home/land and it got to the owner made it so we couldn't afford to pay anymore thankfully we moved to/still live at the place my mamaw/papaw on my mom side lived at so we own it its always ben ownd by somebody in the family so they can't force us out of here.'
Hi! Those are such great memories to have. I remember my mom taking us on Sherm Mountain to visit her friend, Big Trish. I’m not sure if she is still living or not I also remember my cousins living up there on that road and we would visit them. They were Johnson’s (Ruby) used to be married to my uncle Dwight. They have both since passed away. Some of the fondest memories I have are also on Sherm Mountain. It’s also sad to see many of these old home places deteriorating. Thanks for viewing my channel! Many Blessings to you and your family.
@@jennsappalachianden I heard my mom watching part of this video tonigh that's how I found it I didn't know if it was newly posted or not but it don't matter. I at times wish we never left Sherm mountain and at times wish we could move back there but I know even if we could it won't be the same as things was so probably best to stay here 'near Stoney Gap Baptist Church past where my aunt Charlotte Johnson lived before she and her daughter Anita and her son Jimmy lived before they died. If ya mean Trish Mahan she died but if ya mean somebody else I don't know. Yeah when we lived there there was times family visited us so it wasn't just us going to visit them and the neighbors was nice I still wish lots of things 'not just with family' could return to how they was in the 80s/90s I didn't like school so I don't have to go through that anymore although I sorta wish I kept my year books or whatever they're called from Seals Mathis. Thanks for being kind we keep oir mind on good things but we need prayers all of the time and that encludes a Dentist appt I have Wednesday hope ya and ya family are living a blessed life.
@chrisperry1985 Yep, I agree with you on wishing we could go back to the good times. It’s always nice to remember them :) Good luck and prayers with your dentist appt..I don’t like going myself!
@@jennsappalachianden When it comes to remembering sadly I've forgot a lot of things or at least might not remember them exactly how they was but we have pictures and we have one video of when we lived at Sherm mountain but sometimes if I see/hear things I remember them. Thanks for prayers/kind words. Usually when I need to talk to people I don't know anything to say but there's times when messaging it might not seem that way and I find myself talking when not talking to people.
Looking Good!!
Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous 🥰
Should strap or anxhor that down to make it easier on the person learning. Trees dont moce that much or have that much give.
Yeah! This was a piece of poplar (I think), so the guy had to hold it.
Never cover your jars. They need to cool down! Otherwise you'll keep that seal soft and they won't seal well. The sealant used back in the 80's and back is not the same they use today... It's not half as thick. There's zero need for the towel, unless you have a really cold kitchen. ✌🏼
Thanks for sharing. I actually learned to cover my jars “temporarily” in a county extension workshop. The towel also helps to soak up the excess water on top of the lids.
You did a great informative video. I bought 3 tenderloins on sale for $3.99 each..the preseason type.
Thank you for watching! That’s a great deal!
Do they have gummy bears?
I just bet they do! I don’t go there often since we moved away, however.
Jenn please do us all a favor don’t put the music in , it’s Very distracting . Other than that thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the tip. My newer vids don’t have the music 😊
How’s it going? I’d love a new update!
Going great! Electricity fully installed and framing underway! I’ll add a new vid at completion of the next step. Thanks for watching my channel!
Awesome!
Nice canning diy here on the tenderloin
Thank ya!
Thanks, Jenn!
You are so welcome!
Cool. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed my vid!
May I ask which company you purchased the metal building?
Hi! We found the best prices in the buildings at Smoky Mountain Storage Barns.

Very nice looking places
Hi Jenn, loved this one!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I grew up about a mile up the road toward back valley from clonces mkt. My parents still live there.
You prob knew my momma. She passed away last year. We traveled there to visit her grave on this day, so that’s when I did this video. Mom was Trish and her mom was Benia Mae. Also, my granny, Delcie Purkey, was married to Taylor Purkey.
OMG, I'm wondering if they are related My last name is Clonch , calling for another road trip, very soon.
Could you put the written recipe on here for us newbys please?
Absolutely! Here ya go: 14 Day Pickles -1 gallon cucumbers - 1/2 gallon boiling water - 1 cup salt (use canning or kosher salt) - alum Soak 7 days, drain, and add 1/2 gallon water and 1 tbsp alum. Soak 24 hours, drain and wipe dry (I use a paper towel). Slice. Heat 2 and a half cups vinegar, 4 cups sugar, and 2 tblsps pickling spice tied in a bag (I use a tea bag -get those from Amazon, but link is in description). Pour that mixture over cucumbers. Leave for 24 hours. Heat vinegar and pour back over cucumbers for 3-4 more days (to equal day 13). On thr last day (14), heat mixture and cucumbers all together. Add to jars and seal. Water bath them for 10-15 mins. Enjoy! 😊
@@jennsappalachianden THANK YOU! I'M GONNA GIVE THIS A TRY.
They are sooo good! My favorite actually!
Have you made the dill pickles recipe? And are they 14 day pickles as well? If so can I get the recipe please? Thank you.
I haven’t made the dill ones. These are a sweeter tasting pickle. Let me look up the recipe and I’ll share it for the 14 Day pickles.
Wow beautiful family and memories thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bro if you do that they will jump you lol😊
Nah! Ha ha
Actually the thickness of the paper towel helps with that! I don’t hear anything.

It's said " you can't go home again "..............But sometimes you can. Great Video . Peace , Be Free .
So true! We can only relive those memories we have. Thanks for watching my video!
My Great Grandfather was Clint Williams, 69, who died at 4:25 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, July 16, 1938, at his home on Horton Heights, following an apparent stroke. He was born May 21, 1869, in Sneedville, Tenn., and came to Horton in 1908, where he has since made his home. He was a blacksmith in the Rock Island shops here from 1908 until June 1922. He was married to Miss Catherine Ayers at Mulberry Gap, Tenn., and to this union were born nine children; two dying in infancy. Mrs. Williams died on June 21, 1936.
That’s awesome you have roots here in this area! I know some of the Williams’ that live there today. Glad you enjoyed my video!
@@jennsappalachianden My wife and I are planning on visiting Sneedville in 2023, I am not sure if I would be related to the Williams there, but, you could ask them if Clint is in their family tree, Thank you.
@@jerrysullivan8424 if I happen to see any of them. I no longer live there. We only visit occasionally.
@@jennsappalachianden Thank you.
My g g grandmother was Nancy Ayers from that area
I lived in Sneedville a couple of years back in the mid 1980's . Don't remember either of these stores, but I did live in town. I remember Green's Supermarket and the Green Top Inn.
Hi Clayton! I remember the Green Top Inn, too! I loved going there as a young girl. There’s a gas station there now but Greene’s Supermarket is still there!
I'm sure glad this is recorded....new owners....alot of changes.
I need to get a new vid of the new place. I was hoping they would keep the old general store look but we hadn’t been over to see it yet.
Great video! Very neat technique to skin the tomatoes!
Thank you! I learned that technique many years ago when watching the elder folks.
Great tip about using the tea bags! You pickles look wonderful 😀
Thank you!
I didn’t see no beer in there for sale I wouldn’t have any need to stop by there I didn’t have some beer ice to ice it down I hate soda pop I’d rank it as a kid but I can’t stand it now
This county only has 2 package or beer stores. None of the other stores have a license to sell beer. I’ve only known if 2 package stores there my whole life. There’s no liquor at all, so you’d have to drive over to the next counties for that.
