Fascinating podcast..thank you for sharing. Listening to the content, I’m so glad I left FT FE 8 years ago, became freelance and never looked backed. Even then, I remember the crazy, impossible work load which I believe is even worse now..I really feel sorry for my colleagues who remain ..because employers know that the workforce is under pressure and have to cling onto their jobs because of the high cost of living and chasing their pensions..lots of FE/HE are forced to stay because they are pursuing their pensions..well, that’s only if people end up being healthy and not dead at the end of such a punishing work regime..I made sure 8 years that I made other provisions so I can sustain my life with a much smaller pension..the pension pursuit is a trap..I do teach in HE part time but I only do low admin teaching on winter and summer school and I don’t want any more than that because 1. I safeguard my health and work/life balance 2. I refuse to sell my soul to employers entrenched in neo-liberalism 3. I don’t want consume c**p unhealthy food and drink to cope with work place stress which causes disease and serious illness..let me tell you, no employer is worth your health..they don’t give a s**t about your health..these employers are experts in dissociative behaviours..it’s a simple numbers / targets/ money /bums on seats game..enter the game at your peril with eyes and ears open..the person who can avoid/manage your stress is you..employers will only pay lip service to supporting stress /burn out of colleagues because they dont give a s**t because they know that nobody is indispensable and can be compromised off and replaced..neo-liberalism gave rise to today’s toxic/aggressive management practices..working FT in FE/HE should carry a serious health warning…I get really upset when I hear of HE lecturers committing suicide because of workloads..terrible situation..😢 the govt should be absolutely ashamed that UK has the worst workplace in HE..😮 no wonder we have the worst mental health issues in the world..it’s pie in the sky if we cling onto the hope that things are going to improve to make it a less stressful workplace 😂😂😂😂 no chance..YOU ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN IMPROVE YIUR HEALTH AND MANAGE YOUR STRESS LEVELS BECAUSE EMPLOYERS WILL NOT GIVE A S**T
