“For me it’s very important to experience and live the life that we love.” Illustrator David Huang’s 'Hands Toward the Universe’ is the winning submission for The Noguchi Museum’s 2024 Open Call for Artist Banners. The work is a celebration of inward and outward connections formed through the act of making with one’s own hands.
Huang’s designs will be installed on the Museum’s outdoor banners for one year, from May 2024 until May 2025.

    "I made them mine and I made them sculpture".How insufferably arrogant. Noguchi was merely an artist. Hamada Shoji was way, way beyond that. Like the Lotus flower that rises up to bloom, utterly resplendent from the mud and mediocrity all around it.

    • @zoltangalla2863
      @zoltangalla2863 2 місяці тому

      Hamada Shōji was a potter and ceramist. Noguchi was a sculptor but he created gardens, furniture and lighting designs, architectural works, landscapes and set designs. Two different worlds. Also that quote reflects on found objects of art which has a long tradition in western art (like Marchel Duchamp) but also in japanese traditions (like the rocks in a zen garden).

    Funny to hear a highly intelligent museum employee speaking with the rising pitch at end of sentence where it makes his statements seems like a question. Appears unconfident and unsure of himself. Anyway, Isamu is a hero to me and I attended the opening of his museum in LIC. When he appeared everyone clapped enthusiastically. What a genius.
