1 Month Ollie Progress - and the two changes I made to my form
I spend about 70% of my time skateboarding on just practicing ollies because I want to feel comfortable skating through a city and not have to worry about every curb or obstacle in the way. Over the next month I'm going to continue to try and get them higher, and eventually tweak them out so that I can get over something fire hydrant height. I believe that having a good ollie is the most exponentially rewarding skill when it comes to learning other tricks.

How I plan on "going pro" skating
Переглядів 887День тому
Skateboarding specifically, being a pro has very specific standards. You have to win competitions, and have a company making boards with your name on them. When it comes to other types of skating, you don't have the same opportunities, competitions, or total revenue in the industry. I think that if you have skating brands paying you to skate their products and that earns you enough money to liv...

Found a nice mini hill to practice on. Shorter video today because I wanted to be careful about a potential injury. The soul wheeling I practiced in a previous video is officially in my toolset of slides that I feel semi comfortable doing at normal speeds. I also bought some Slalom Cones, so I will be learning some dance/slalom moves soon and will be making a video on that. #inlineskating #down...

I'm still making lots of changes to this channel as I figure out what kind of skater, and what type of videos I want to be making. As of right now, I plan on making Inline skating, Skateboarding, and longboarding videos as I practice to become an all-round skater. As always, I am open to any advice about technique or video/channel wise. #skating #skateboarding #skater #solidskates #skate

My mom bought me new skates and they were so much betterrrr ALSO I LANDED MY SALCHOWWWWWWWWWW(needs more consistency so I can move on to loops)I MIGHT UPLOAD THE VID IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT❤❤❤
@@DaveCalungsod yes!! Let me know asap if you post I’d love to see it. What skates did you get?
@SolidSkates Liku skates, I know I know some shady brand, but it's all we can afford. Can I use your salchow clip for comparison? I might upload it now😭😭😭
@@DaveCalungsod the actual skates don’t matter that much haha, 99% of it is just how you practice. Yes of course you can use my video! Maybe you’ll end up helping improve my salchow 😅 if hasn’t gotten much better since
@SolidSkates uploaded it already, thank you so much for providing a breakdown on the salchow, I only see waltz jump tutorials💖💖💖
@@DaveCalungsod it looked just like mine haha! Keep practicing them and they’ll be better than mine
When I am skating in the city I stick to magic slides and regular t-stop, because there is no risk involved with these. Parallel slides are steezy but no matter how good you are, there is always a chance you'll bail.
dude needed this, been working on mostly ollies for 8 months, they're solid but definitely not perfect and the front foot thing is exactly what i'm struggling with. going to try your technique this week and see what happens
@@bloodhoundsoldier7445 I hope it helps, really trust that nose 🙌. I’ve been working on mostly Ollie’s for about a year total, but the progress has been pretty exponential
Thats cool about the back foot. My ollies got better when I stopped trying and just sent it at curbs. I am guessing overloading the back foot is a really common problem.
@@ruralripper I know exactly what you mean, I have a super nice low effort Ollie whenever I’m moving super fast because my brain is scared of pressing the tail too hard on the ground causing the board to stop so it’s perfect pop every time
For any returning viewers let me know if there are any in-line skating videos you think I should make
I really admire that you are so much into polishing your skills, I wish I were like that.
@@jakżeszjasięuspokoję I just love seeing that progress, and I’m obsessed with the ability to actually skate through a city so I’m very motivated to get good enough to do that
My guy, there are dudes who are in the Olympics that aren’t pro. All pro means is you have your name on a board from a legitimate company. Within the skate industry, that’s what it means. You can’t just make up a definition. Sounds like you have a lot to learn about the culture. Not trying to shit on your dreams, but there’s no chance you’ll ever make any money FROM/WITHIN the industry. You’re not proficient enough and you aren’t what the industry is looking for with respect to personality. Again, not trying to piss on your dreams. I just think it would be wiser to pursue social media. But if you want to pursue skating, you’re gonna have to figure out the culture a little (a lot) more
i respect it
💪😤
Your attitude is amazing!! Keep it up and when you go big I’ll get to say I subbed when you were under 1k!!
Diggin' your attitude bro. Keep it up dawg!

I skateboard as my main hobby, but i work at the roller rink so i do inline as a subhobby; i find this very relatable
@@aarontaylor4985 I worked at a sonic on roller skates 😂 kind of similar. Have you tried learning slides or doing any big hills on your inlines yet? That’s what skateboarders are typically missing from their skating experience
@SolidSkates I just learned how to Johnny (box top) and reverse hockeystops, my slides aren't the best tbh. Haven't done street inlining but it looks fun.
Yes bro so dope💯I’m not trying to go pro but I’m trying to get really good at skateboarding, motorcycle riding, and bodyboarding. Lfg you got this🔥
@@michaelfleming4016 thank you my multi disciplined brother 💪 you can do it too, thats an awesome combination of practices
Let’s go fire video🔥👑🐐
Wishing you success brother. Enjoying your journey. I finally truly mastered the soul slide. The secret for me was practicing in the rain. By mastering it, I mean sliding to a complete stop. Just a tip I noticed, the powerslide infinity wheels are brilliant in the rain. I can literally skate around without worrying I'll lose grip
@@shifuugincii thanks! And that’s awesome bro, what slide are you focused on next? I loved the power slide infinity wheels too, but unfortunately the core broke on two of them so I had to switch wheels altogether prematurely 😪
@@SolidSkates the only logical one now. haha, magic slide next. I'll be practicing like a mad mad man, until I can magic slide to a complete stop. It's taken me 2 months to master the soul. Crazy how it just clicked one day. Btw, I live in England but when I go on holiday in mainland Europe I always go to their eBay's usually they have different local names. & I have found some incredible deals for wheels I got MPCs 3 set of 100, hydrogen pros, bont, for less than 40euros, they are usually within a mm of the original size. Since the former owners were speed skaters the wheels were pretty much in fantastic condition since they don't slide. I don't if it's the same in the US. But that has been my way to save money on wheels
@@shifuugincii thanks for the suggestion, I wouldn’t mind using used wheels at all since I’m gonna destroy them anyways. Good luck and let me know how the magic slide learning goes
Sorry to suggest another hobby but I have a feeling you'd love flatland unicycling.
@@defj660 is that what you do most?
@@SolidSkates Yes, mostly some form of uni
@@defj660 let me know if you post anything, I’d love to see what you’ve got. I tried a unicycle once at a friends house and I couldn’t get it started at all
@@SolidSkates I'll try to remember. Oh well but if you didn't get long on it then there's hope if you take an interest. It's normal to be unable to stay on the thing early on as your muscles need a couple of weeks to adapt. Satisfying when conquered.
just dont try skiing, you will love it too much haha... and they would probably want to snowboard too lmao
@@SlavaEremenko you’re probably right haha. I went one time and it’s just too expensive 😅 super fun though. In-line skating helped with skiing a ton and then I tried snowboarding and I could barely stay up
I miss you bro, hope you come back soon!
@@josh50951 me too man! I’ll have to come back eventually
You should get involved with any events your local skate shops run if you have any. If they like your vibe you could get a local sponsor. I have some stickers of my local shop on my helmet and I’ve gotten 200$ worth of free gear and a pretty awesome discount. Maybe not every shop will be that chill but getting involved in the skating community has definitely lead to some opportunities and will hopefully lead to more. And you’re a way more advanced skater than me so who knows how far you could go with sponsors
@@bebepastiche9105 wow that’s awesome. Was the shop purely for in-line skates?
@@SolidSkatesit’s my local quad shop, Oh My Quad. I love going in because the owners know everything about quad skates
@@bebepastiche9105 I wish I had something like that where I lived. Only skateboard shops where I’ve lived
cool! good luck!
@@jakżeszjasięuspokoję thank you 🙏 I’ll be practicing every day
Great attitude as always! If one has a big following on social media (IG & YT), sponsorship chances grow exponentially. Also, be aware of being a jack of all trades, companies generally want specialists in what they do and offer.
@@fabricio.gennaro yeahhhh, unfortunately I am a jack of all trades when it comes to skating 😅 hopefully some companies will appreciate that. I can see in-line companies liking it because I would be like an outlet for a larger market especially in the US where it’s not near as popular as skateboarding or long boarding
Hey Solid what up; I am a Bahamian Skater and have been keeping up with your Inline content. I've recently uploaded a Magic Slide tutorial check it here: ua-cam.com/video/CnQ13mffMQ8/v-deo.htmlsi=-VD9LmvL96GwpcXq
I just got into serious skating over the summer and your channel is freaking awesome!! Thanks for being just a lovely enthusiastic watch and someone to study!!
❤️ love to hear another person getting serious about skating
Good to see you young blood. Keep on rolling. Edit: can you go over axel technique? The videos I have found are for artistic pic skates and it's different since it has a toe stop and blades don't.
@@socer451 I axels still look super sloppy, and aren’t done with the right form. I follow the same technique as figure skating. The pick isn’t technically used on take off. Even though the pick touches the ground as they jump it’s not actually used for the jump. The landings will always be more difficult without a pick though. Long story short I can barely do a sloppy axel so I don’t have much for technique demonstration. I haven’t been working on figure skating jumps much at all lately either.
Been working parallel like crazy, the mushroomblading wheels slide so nice!
@@kylepickle715 I love to hear it. Let me know next time you post a video of your parallel slide, I gotta see the progress man. I’ll check out the mushroom wheel, thanks for the suggestion
@@SolidSkates imma dedicate a session to them this weekend and grab some clips. I had a set previously of the mb wheels for my 5x setup but I’ve been on a 4x100 kick the last year and I like the mb wheels more than the rb hydrogens I just finished up
@@kylepickle715 I have hydrogens on my 4x80 set up and they are way too grippy for slides is that the same for you?
@@SolidSkates yes but I’m firm believer in having the right tool for the job and while hydrogen are great wheels and theh do slide , really they weren’t designed for the purpose of sliding. But they were quite grippy but they performed well for distance and city skates. I’ve not used the mb wheels in those scenarios yet so I can’t speak to that.
@@kylepickle715 the hydrogens are great for figure skating because I don’t slip as much on jump entries
i just don't like how the magic slide looks. It is easier because one foot is really doing the sliding while the back foot is dragging as in T-Stop dragging. The parallel is a lot cooler and jumping right after it?...hmmm you just gave me a good idea to try.
Totally agree, we’ll said that the back foot is just a T stop 😂. I think it’s more of a back up/emergency slide when you don’t have time to think. Let me know if you find a cool way to jump out of the slide.
Personal preference: I think magic slide are more stylish and unique to inline (where parallel is used also in skiing). Technically speaking, you made a great point about how in certain surfaces parallel slide can be tricky, and since you can't test every surface beforehand, and they take a lot of commitment with both feet.. you can easily end up in the floor. So for both looks and stability... MAGIC!
Haha, so you’re one of the Magic lovers. I might change my mind once I get better at them, I’ve spent a lot more time on parallel slides so maybe it’s only my personal bias. I didn’t think about how magic is totally unique for inlines, that does add a little style points to it.
@@SolidSkates when I'm riding on the street I'd said I keep switching from magic to soul slide. And occasionally a power stop
@@fabricio.gennaro I’ve never used soul sliding as a functional slide besides checking how much traction different surfaces have. Do you use it as an alternative to T stopping to passively slow down?
@@SolidSkates exactly!! also to come to a a full stop in seconds aka emergency brake
amazing progress man. I feel I got the soul slide in the bag. Parallel slide seems like you have to 'enter' in to it, which is not always easy when you need an emergency break, whereas as soul slide/ magic you can any time. I don't have the confidence yet to slide for longer when Im at around 30kph.. Will keep practising though. I also discovered wheels play a huge part. my powerslide infinity lose grip quite easily whereas my bonts are so grippy, the don't slide easily.
@@shifuugincii I’ve only tried SKT HP 90 mm wheels for sliding, because they are only $50 for a set of 8 and have pretty small cores. The power slide wheels that came with my skates actually broke before I learned how to do slides. That’s true about how the parallel is more of an entry where magic you can instantly start the slide. 30kph is about the max speed I’m comfortable entering a slide, and I will still mess up my entry sometimes. Let me know if you have any wheel suggestions for me. I’ll need a new set in a couple weeks
CONGRATULATIONS ON 800+ SUBSCRIBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@rubytroublemaker thank you haha! I’m still trying to figure out what video style I like 😅
Looking forward to ice skating content. You're inspiring man. I need to have more focused practice sessions.
Love to here it. It’s starting to cool down here in Wisconsin already, few more months I’ll be on the ice
Great job!! I was a figure skater, & would like to buy inline skates that I can also, try jumps. Can you tell me what skates I should buy?? I want decent skates, without spending over $300 if possible.
Honestly I haven’t tried many different skates either, but any skate that is made for Slalom is going to have a lot of boot control, and the rocker on the frame will give a much better figure skating blade feel because the skate will turn much easier. Love to hear more people trying jumps on in-line skates! Let me know how it goes
@@SolidSkates - thank you! ♥️
good job
This series is awesome, and amazing to see that you can do so many kinds of turns, spins, jumps, even axels on urban/slalom inline skates, rather than on specialized off-ice figure skates. And also make it look easy as if on ice. Did you have a strong ice background before inline or is all this really self-learned in 1.5 years? Ive also been using inlines to practice basic figures off-ice so these videos are super inspiring.
@@PieterSheth-Voss I had no ice background and it was all learned on roller skates + in-line skates, if you combine roller skating it’s closer to 2.5 years of practice, I was working at a sonic drive in 😅. Let me know how your figure skating moves are going on your in-line skates! There are so few people doing them.
@@SolidSkates I started urban inlines 1.5 years ago, mainly to find a substitute for skiing in a winter with no snow, and got addicted to city skating. Then rediscovered pond skating this last winter, and started USFS LTS Basic 1-6 to learn figure and get techniques right. My current obsession has been to get three-turns, brackets, waltz jumps, and MITF on regular inlines as you have, so as to not be dependent on rinks or weather or ice. So to see in this series that that, and more, is possible is exactly what I was searching for.
@@PieterSheth-Voss I love to hear it! Sounds like you know more than me about the technical side of things. I’m doing the opposite, and I’ll be making ice skating videos this winter since it’s so cold in Wisconsin where I’m moving this week.
No wayy great ollie
Solid it's quite relaxing to watch you training. There is usually a beautiful background and you do your exercises with easiness to speak out your mind to a camera. As a nice format to your videos, I would give you the idea to explain what you're doing/trying to achieve with the skates and all while you also keeps switching the topic with whatever in life you would like to talk about. Hope you liked the idea. Ciao!
Thank you by the way, I really appreciate any video ideas, I’ve been having a hard time figuring out what kind of videos to make and what suits me best
Don't quit!!! Awesome..
I can do waltz jump so I'm learning my salchow right now, I can't believe you have an axel in your inline skates
@@DaveCalungsod they still need a ton of work as you can see 😅 I defiantly recommend you pay a ton of attention to your form and everything leading up to the jump so they don’t look like mine and build an inch of bad habits. Let me know how the salchow goes for you
@SolidSkates since I did ballet first as a hobby, skating came easy for me on the artsy side, but for the technical things like jumps, I still need to improve💖💖💖
@@DaveCalungsod after practicing more figure skating moves I started to appreciate ballet moves for what they are really worth. They totally compliment eachother

For in-line skating I skate around on one foot until my leg starts to get a tiny bit tired to warm up all of those stabilizing muscles

I got a Santa Cruz skateboard from goodwill in the spring and about all I can do on it is go forward so far but I like to think of it as cross training for balance. Kind of like standing on a bosu ball but more fun since you’re cruising around
@@bebepastiche9105 cross training is real. I swear it all helps, try out a couple of steps in the board like switch your stance or stepping on the edges of the board like the long board dancers do. The group I went to LA with are mostly king board dancers and it looks super fun.
