Hi Gorgeous and welcome to my channel!
I'm Isa and I'm a professional boudoir and dog photographer form Slovenia. I love interior design and coffee, I'm a mum of 4 little humans and a bunch of furry beasts. I will love me some swing dancing, horseback riding and good music.
If I would need labels I'd say I'm an extroverted introvert with ADHD, and I am here to make your life in the world of photography easier!
My videos will spin around giving some insights on photography in general, on how to photograph dogs, boudoir and I will throw in some chaos that is my life.
I will be happy if you come along!
Love,
Isa

It was a wonderful summer evening on Lake Bled in Slovenia, when Albert decided to purpose to his girlfriend!
A lovely boat ride, a shiny ring, popping some champagne and a dance on the top of the Bled island. What more could you wish for!

I chase these cherry blossoms every year. Some years they are swept away in front of my nose by the spring rain. And other years I am lucky and catch them in time! 2024 was another lucky year. And I took my australian shepherd and my daughter to capture some shots.

Maternity film: It's such a beautiful way to remember your pregnancy. Why have only photos, when you can tell so much more with video? All the touches, all the laughs, the splashes of water and the seagulls in the background. Your footprints in the sand, the soft kisses and a beautiful sunset. I'll forever be in love with film.

Here's a glimpse of how I work and what it looks like when you book a shoot with me :) A short promotional video we shot with a professional model a while back. I'm so lucky to have a job I love! And amazing coworkers who shoot a promo video when I need one! Big thanks and shoutout to Marko Gruntar, an amazing videographer that we found and decided to keep :D

Can photoshop take a dog with an open mouth and tongue out to a closed mouth?
Maybe generative fill could do that, but I am not sure. I would still go do a composition with a photo where the dog's mouth is closed.
I found this so useful! I just got into photographing dogs, which I want to do more of, with the Z6, so this was a good send. You've earnt yourself a new subscriber 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the video!
Nice video. FYI, it's called a "log".😀
This was a great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
This was incredibly helpful! I'm newly getting into photography and looking to start with Dog photography. Hope you're doing well to this day, thanks again for making this video!
My camera burns through 120 frames per second. I hate how long it takes to go through all the pet photos lol.
Top Iskooo🎉❤
I do a bit of this, too. I use a Z9 and a 200mm f/2 lens, using 3d tracking. I always shoot in manual exposure with the lens wide open. My minimum shutter speed is 1/1250th of a second, but I prefer faster. I adjust my EI to give a good exposure. When I get home, I put the card in a reader and fire up Fast Raw Viewer. This allows me to make picks of which images I want without having to transfer all of the files. I select the ones I want and transfer those file to the ssd on my computer. Then it's adjust in LR and finish in Photoshop.
great video
Thank you. Very helpful

I've been thinking about getting the Z6ii, I do family photos. But I do like to take action shots of my dog too. Would you recommend this camera?
I have not shot with the Z6ii as I have meanwhile switched to canon r5. But it is definitely better than the Z6!
Oh no no no :( turn off eye of the dog !!!! No pro uses that . It sets off the focus .
Uh no it doesn’t. Everyone uses eye tracking.
thank you isa for this share. you have a new subscriber! It's good to see a pro talk about practice, the fact that we're going to make mistakes and that we have to learn. that said, a 135!!! I never thought of trying it with so "short" and so close, but it's a good idea! no need to place the dog 100m away to have the crazy race. one last thing... Isa Gauvin, that sounds French as a name. being French Canadian, when I saw your name on UA-cam, I was convinced that I would have a French-speaking video. a lot of Gauvin in your area?
I had to decide between the 135mm and the 70-200mm and I fell in love with the 135mm :) so honesty I had to work with what I had :D No, actually, just my family. But yes, it is french in origin!
Superb!
Beautiful German Shepherd & photos 😍 I have a bouncy, black standard poodle - AF problems with dark eyes, black curly fur, long nose 😟
How is your Sigma 135 1.8 performing adapted to z6? Im thinking about to buy this lens for my R6 but I'm a little bit worried about AF performance when shooting quick running dogs.
Don't worry at all!! :D It's perfect on the z6, no lag or anything, and it works as awesome on canons r6! (I tested it on the r5 and r6 as well, and it's amazing!) Go for it!! <3
@@IsaGauvin Thanks for the answer and keep up the good work 😀
I've just found your channel and have already learned a lot! You're awesome :)
Great video, good tips. Don’t have a Z6, just a D850 and a D500, but certainly would make me want a try a Z6 soon 😊
Thanks Isa. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has problems with eye AF on black dogs with dark eyes. Believe me, doesn't matter if it's Sony or Canon, none of them cope with that. I know, I take a lot of schipperke photos, those little guys are the blackest things ever.
Yes! One can basically never be 100% sure, so it is always a good idea to use different ways to focus :)
Excellent video & well done on tapping into niche I hope you'll gain wider audience soon! I hope you won't mind a quick question, I can see you use the Sigma 135mm 1.8 Art, how does the AF perform in comparison to Z-mount native lenses? Have you experienced any issues?
Thank you! :) No issues, it performs as smooth as butter! I love sigmas art series and hope to get more soon 😍📸
@@IsaGauvin That's reassuring, thanks.
What shutter speeds do you use? 1/1250s or faster?
With my 135mm I use 1/640 (or higher if it’s too sunny for example, with a 200mm I would use a 1/800 or 1/1000 as my starting point :)
How would I do this with Sony?
I have never used a sony, but I’m guessing you have similar features, just named differently 😅😬
Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊
Also, do you start shooting whenever the dog starts running or do you only shoot when it’s about to come near the spot where you know he’s going to cross over?
It depends really :) I try to judge the best spot/know my lens well enough to know where I have to be and where I need to start shooting to get my shot. You should keep in mind that the best option is always not to crop in post and get the best result in camera. But sometimes you have a dog which won’t run straight towards you when it gets near, so you can ether work with the dog or owner, so the dog gets it right, or you start shooting sooner, when the dog kicks off. It really is all in practice :) Maybe try shooting at kick-off in the first run, to make sure you have a useful photo, and try to start later in the 2nd and 3rd run :)
@@IsaGauvin thanks!
Can you please explain or demonstrate what do you mean when you say you manual focus on the second time? Also, your settings for continuous auto focus I didn’t understand it. Great video!
Of course :) you have 2 options: first is eye AF where the camera chooses what to focus on, and the second is locking a spot you select and the camera keeps the focus there. That’s what I meant :) I have my camera set to switch between those two modes, if I click on the button :) makes life so easy :) i hope I explained it well
@@IsaGauvin ok so you mean to put the spot manually to where you think the dog’s eye will be in a given moment? Do you use pinpoint?
Not eye but head :) I just move the focus point to where u want it :)
I can understand photography, facebook and instagram haha.
Hahahah, still better then nothing! 🤣❤️
Thank you, great video and very useful to me.
hi, would these settings be similar on Z50? thanks
Yes, I think they would :)
@@IsaGauvin wow thanks for the fast reply.... I am a complete beginner at the start of my journey and camera selection is so hard. the Z50 fits my budget (keeping a bit in reserve for other bits I'm sure to need) and with the eye af seems to be a great starting camera. Do you agree or should I push for the Z6 or even a Sony a7 iii? thanks..
@@rmcbettingonline4959 go with the z50! It’s amazing from what I heard :) it’s a crop sensor, but otherwise perfect :)
Thank you so much much for taking the time to post this beautiful video and I learned so much:). And I also subscribe to your channel.

Straight to the point. Informative. You have a new subscriber. Thanks so much
Excellent video Isa. (Just to let you know your Instagram link is not working)
Hello. Have you tried the AF with a black labrador? (with Nikon Z6) If so, did you find you got a consistent keeper rate? :)
Hi! Sadly, I have not! But I imagine it will depend on the lighting situation. The better the light the easier the Z6 will track and keep focus :) I suggest u try it out and see! And if you do, please report your findings 🥰
@@IsaGauvin Thanks for replying. Will do :)
Beautiful edit! Is it possible to buy your actions somewhere? :)
Yes of course! Write me an email to hello.isagauvin@gmail.com and I will send them to you for a coffee donated on my co-fi page! (link in the video description) <3
Great😍💪
Thank you! <3
Yesss! Amazing video again, Isa! Keep them coming! 🙃
Thank you! Will do! <3
I would never ever shot action with eye detect autofocus. Nikon recommends dynamic area AF. I would be surprised if your hit rate was above 10%.
It’s around 80% actually :) depends on the dog and how steady my hand is :)
@@IsaGauvin probably our criteria regarding what a sharp image is different. Shooting at 1.8/2.8 for fast moving subjects, eye detect is pretty much useless. 80% one can get with the Z 70-200 2.8 + Dynamic area.
Well, I get my 80% with what I have described in the video. And I only own a sigma 135mm 1.8 and I will shoot at 1.8-2.8 depending on the dog. Find out who Claudio Piccoli is. He has tested the eye af on dogs quite a lot. Also. Just because I get sharp photos, doesn’t mean you will with my method. It takes a lot of practice and trial and error. And I know what sharpness is ;)
@@NVIK5 I think you have to try it first before being so apprehensive about this technique, I understand your point but if you select dynamic then the camera would select the focus point base on the closest part of the dog e.g. the snout or nose, not the eyes. I will try both and get back at you.
Did you try it meanwhile? I also have a z6I and used to select AF-C single field or dynamic coming from DSLRs. With that I had been struggling a lot with keeper rates below 5%. The method in the video is new an I will try it out next time. Any experiences gained meanwhile? Cheers
