Faux Super 8 Film Look -- Test Footage
Переглядів 29Рік тому
I have a 48-hour film challenge approaching and am testing different techniques and looks with my gear in preparation. For this short video, I wanted to explore achieving a super 8 or vintage film look for possible storytelling purposes. Of course, it was actually shot digitally. I used my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. I was again using the Helios 44 2/58 Prime Cine Anamorphic Bokeh lens fo...
Bicky's Night Out -- a test of the Helios 44 2/58 Prime Cine Anamorphic Bokeh lens

I have been feeling the call back to filmmaking it's been a minute and I recently picked up the Helios 44 2/58 Prime Cine Mod Lens w/ Anamorphic Bokeh For Canon EF! 44M 58mm F2. I got to say, yes, the footage is rough because Im going hand held, and its manual focus, but the sensitivity to light and the bokeh is BEAUTIFUL. I am very impressed.

Mom's 50th Birthday Party & Reaction Video
She looked scary as fk!!!
Practical beats CG EVERY time
I don't think Del Toro read ATMOM, his script is terrible and this shot proves it.
Wow
How can I do this ?
In those days, without all the horror conditioning from modern movies, i would have legitimately shat myself
I have to be honest.... in the year of our lord 2024, It still spooks me because I always forget how they did it, and it rattles me. haha
Ffffuuuccckkkiiinnnn hhheeelll
Tbh kind of an overrated pick, she just look dirtier, that’s it.
Omfg my man, I had only recently reached the final stage of Grief and accepted that this dream was never going to come true. I was ready to move on and forget about GDTs At the Mountains of Madness adaptation. Now I'm back to stage one, denial. This movie cannot be dead, it's not fair!! Give the man his f**kin money FFS!! He was literally put on this earth with us specifically to make this movie! 🤬🤬
witches terrify me
What did he say?
Yes, this movie needs to get made!
It's just great.
This was done first in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Frederick March
I heard the she had green make up, and they blasted green light onto her face, to even out the effect. When they turn the light off, the make up pops out
Than some damn fool invented colors.
holy shit
Back when cinema was it just…. A bunch of people trying so hard to scare another bunch of people hahahaha
I can imagine folks in 1932 being blown away when seeing this effect in theatres. But probably since its so brief it wasnt a movie that caught on throughout history as much
We need to return to casting freaky ass looking mfers in roles. I miss that shit.
Greatest transformations with no mention of The Howling?! 🗑️
Simple trick, yes, but imagine the brain hurricane going on during filming to try to get this effect.
It's a classic scene. Not much else about the movie is particularly noteworthy, unfortunately.
Wow that really holds up. Surprised nobody else ever used this trick.
Awesome!! 🕷️
Good snippet. Thanks!
I'm seriously impressed I never knew about this and I love horror movies. I showed my mom that she was born in 1949
Vertigo 1958 is the first film
That is actually smarter than cgi. Like the guy who made cgi not the ones using it
For 1930s this is bloody impressive. I have to say though in recent times the enchantress transformation is the best i have seen thus far.
When horror movies were actually good
Way better than most CGI these days.
Practical effects are great but the makeup back then contained a BUNCH of poisonous things. To do the green on the face of the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz, the paint was copper based. One type of makeup was found to have rat poison, others contained lead. The snow in The Wizard of Oz was actually asbestos.
That's insane and incredible, especially with tech that's almost a century old.😍
Looks way better than a lot of cgi stuff today. I love practical effects. It might be why The Things is one of my favorite movies
🥰thanks bro
They used this same trick in a couple of episodes of The Twilight Zone and it always looked AMAZING! It's so simple yet so ingenious but most of all, so effective!
Red light, green light
"Okay, the actress has arrived. We're just waiting for makeup to finish so we can shoot the witch transformation scene." "What are you talking about? She's already here." "..."
Amazing 😮
Wow! So incredible to see such a seamless transition !
Long before practical and cgi
MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!! And The Shadow over Innsmouth, it's my favorite story from the brilliance of Howard Phillip.
YEEEESSSSSS!!! Those 2 and The Dunwich Horror are my favorite HPL stories. Are you familiar with Alan Moore's Providence trilogy? It's basically Lovecrafts greatest hits with a shot of Chambers King in Yellow blended together in one epic story. God that also needs to be adapted quick, fast and in a hurry 🤘
@@ProudGirlDadX2 I have not I'll have to look into it fs
I thought that was the old lady from drag me to hell at first
Go watch John Carpenter’s “The Thing” And then come talk to me
Homeboy hasn't seen "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" from 1931. They use the same technique and the actor, Frederick March, won an oscar.
That’s incredible. I thought Northwestern’s Film School (Class of Megan Markle) taught me all the tricks of the trade but I would have been trying to figure out that transition scene forever. Cool!
Creepy😱
😮 nice... From 0 to 100 real quick
reminds me of steptoe
