The VANgelicos
United States
Приєднався 27 кві 2019
Hi there! We are Adam and Katie Angelico and we live in a VAN!
A few years ago we sold all of our stuff and bought a van so we could live our life a bit more intentionally. Our whole build is our first video series. Since then we have traveled all around the United States of America and plan to explore everywhere our tiny home on wheels can take us!
Adam: I love rock climbing, making music, connecting with nature on a deep level, and learning new things. Our life on the road has offered many opportunities to form real human relationships, and discover a spiritual balance with the earth and all life. I love to laugh and be silly and I care about healing the world. I make our videos on Final Cut Pro, and record our music with Logic Pro. I have over 20 different instruments in our van and I play them all regularly.
Katie: I bring home the bacon bitches! While Adam runs around and plays I am usually working my 9-5 working toward early retirement. When I finish work IT'S ON!

Elephant's Perch | Big Wall Climbing in the Sawtooth Mountains
In this adventure Adam and Katie set out to climb a mountain in the Sawtooth range of central Idaho. The mountain's name? Elephant's Perch.
The climb is over 1000 feet of rock climbing split into 5-7 pitches (depending on where you decide to build trad anchors) and the overall grade is around 5.9
Originally climbed by the legendary dirtbag Fred Beckey after bushwacking through the wilderness and hardcore mountaineering his way up to the top of this beautiful formation back in the early days of rock climbing in the 1950's and 1960's. Nowadays many of the routes that were previously aid climbed, are free-climbed using modern gear for protection.
All music featured in this film was written, recorded and produced by Adam Angelico

In this video we really settle into our camp in the Tahoe National Forest and bring back one of our classic pastimes: THROWING KNIVES! We also take a look back at some of the jerry-rigged targets we've come up with over the years, and watch how these targets all slowly but surely turn into a pile of wood debris. *All music is original. In this video we take the "climber's trail" to the base of a relatively easy... but SPICY 5.8 desert "tower" climb and summit Bell Rock right at the edge of sunset. We encountered many obstacles along the way and made it back to our van a little worse for ...

Awesome bouldering session right at camp out here in Bishop. There are probably existing names and grades for these routes but I don’t know them so I made up my own. My goal was to climb 10 problems on this one boulder I called “the Australia boulder” and I sent 7 of the 10 I found. Grades between V1 and maybe V5. It’s so awesome to be able to walk 20 steps from the van and have access to hundr...

Hey, love the set-up! What do you use to power everything while on the road?
I use solar panels! We had 400watts (4x100) of solar charging 400amp (2x200) hours of battery when this video was made. We’ve upgraded that system a bit since then but we have plenty of electricity for most things!
I love the Dragoons. I've been going on picnics and hikes there since I was little.
Awesome freakin job guys! You guys killed it!!! Much love💚⛰️
Did you see the Pink Elephant?! Katie just before you said you needed to get in better shape, I was thinking Wow to be that young and fit! You’re both so awesome! Adam envious of the barefeet! Can’t wait to see you guys again hopefully this winter! Take care ❤
Ditto what Mary said! Just watched and got to say it took my breath away! From the dizzying drops, to the tiny caterpillar I was with you in spirit. It lifted me up to soar above and perhaps something I can do when I get both knees replaced (next knee replacement will be July 12th) or whenever Freckles and I are back with the Chosen Family. Love you both!
Adam and katie, that was magnificent! Thank you for sharing your passion, talent, and love with us. From the fuzzy friend, to the look of disappointment and of course accomplishment, to the shaking hand and the confident smiles, and my personal favorite the glacial blue/green lakes - it was a gift I appreciate you sharing! Oh wait, and the music and climbing was wonderful too! Thanks guys! Cheers!
Hey lets jam while you are here!
Nice to meet you in the safeway parking lot today with my grandma! I subbed and apologize to say that i was sub number 421 😂😂
Great adventure! Thanks for sharing!
I wanna come play in your music hut with you!
Oh hell yeah! We’re gonna make tons of music together! Hope to see y’all sometime soon!!!
Very Cool ! I live in Dragoon . Just a few miles from there.
Very Nice! What a fantastic place to live!
You need a Jaw harp!. Hell, we all need one. OR IS IT A jew Harp? It got a little busy in the high register at the end which could use some layering yo build up to the Big Nostalgia Exit. Heep those higher end instruments a talking back and forth with each other and leave sime vreathing room for the harmonica and violin to expeess themselves with their sliding and emotive juiciness becaus they will shine in that context or get in each ither's way That is my official, used to do musical projects feedback because you asked for it.
I totally appreciate the feedback! That’s some valid advice and I will think about it next time! Thanks for being supportive about it and not “internet rude” too. These comments were so nice to see! Maybe we’ll see ya out there again someday! Thanks again for watching!
HAH! Whatever you do, NEVER apologize for you musical foibles in the video description. no you don't get to practice with your band but tou actually live inside the head of your band members. Think of how much improved your setup is, than the best of the best recordings a century ago. Your music sounds great and any little intonation imperfections are what makes it sound like you! Oooh harmonica! THIS IS FUN!
You’re right, I think I just say stuff like that because I know it could be better but I want people to know I don’t think it’s perfect either. What is perfect anyway? I think your also right that the little quirks are what make it unique and original. Same song quantized and pitch corrected might just sound like a robot made it. I am not a robot!
@@TheVANgelicos That's right! It is the only thing I didn't love about the videos. You never know, there might be a time you wish to sound like a robot, but don't apologize for that either. Ha! I happen to favor, real instruments, and not the electric keyboards, but I'm older and that is my bias. That being said, I ordered an Otamatone Deluxe as the first "instrument" I've decided to play with in some time. I just loved watching your process, because I remember it well.
I am glad to see you guys still out there living the nomad life, and playing music and not getting sucked into all the negativity! I met you at the Rubber Tramp Rondeveau before Covid, where you did a hand stand in the talent show, and I did some Elvis Karaoke. I'll go back and look at what I have missed in your channel since they kept me subscribed, but took off notifications. I like you telling us that you are going to eq more presence into the guitar when you have it all.on headphones and we can't hear it. It reminds me of the difficulty of making videos of making studio recordings by yourself. That violin sounds dope and all fiddly, it made the mandolin ghost get up to boogie. Ahhhhh, the keyboard bass.... you need to just drop in some guitar lowered an octave.... But I just love the string band in lil insta pop up tent studio. I grew up about 30 miles from the Bluegrass Museum and Hall of Fame, so it brought me back.
Wow RTR 2020 throwback! At that talent show I played my ukulele a little bit and back then almost 5 years ago now it was the only instrument I could really play! Since then I learned guitar and that lead to banjo, a year later fiddle, and recently the Mandolin. I’m glad you enjoyed the process and it’s nice to hear from a fellow musician who knows about recording and it’s unique challenges and opportunities.
@@TheVANgelicos Yeah, I remember your Uke, and the van tour, and you told me you were going to do some rock climbing, band I subscribed and got notifications for a while until I started making videos about things like Covid Origins, and UA-cam decided to censor my videos and wipe out my subs. It let me keep the fluff, but wouldn't let me convert to what was happening. It was nice that they let me see your progress. Keep up the good work, and yeah those backlogs of adventures over the last few years have gotten pretty big, I'd love to see em, but keep making new adventures while you can, tired or not! Ha!
Great job Adam. You are such an extremely talented passionate human! I also liked the length of the video, fit nicely into my watching routine!
Thanks Mary!

Our mother was raised in Cochise Arizona. I remember taking picnics up in the mountains with our grandparents. Thanks for the memories!
What a great place to have picnics! Cochise is definitely a very special place and I’m glad to have sparked some nice memories for ya. Thanks again for watching!

Absolutely gorgeous upload, such a professional, enjoyable and definitely dangerous adventure!
What a nice comment! Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked it!
Jacks. The old confidence booster. I don’t know when you filmed this. But it’s arizona cold now. And sucks
Dude it’s been weird cold lately! This was back in October... I’m not used to these freezing nights out here! At least we still get more sun!
Nice video started climbing in Northern Arizona love it out there!!!!!
Love the limestone of northern AZ! It’s some of my favorite rock in the country!
I see a lot of crags not in use could you send me one or two, I will pay for the postage of course 😁 I will even bake a nice pie - A Dutch climber
Hahaha if there’s a nice pie involved I’ll see what I can do! 😆
@@TheVANgelicos 😁
Envious of you being out there in warmth! 50’s would feel amazing right now as in the teens and getting ready for snow. Still doing physical therapy for a torn rotator cuff but should be back on the road mid January. Happy holidays and tell Katy hi. Be safe and enjoy!
It’s been our coldest AZ winter in 4 years so far! But the sun feels warm and the light keeps S.A.D. at bay so I will always call the southwest our winter home!
Nice job A! And nice job with the music too!
Thanks Mary! Miss you guys!!
Big ol tarantula 🕷 😮
I think tarantulas are soooo cool! That’s only the third one I’ve met in the wild!
I definitely think it’s a game changer. The FCC just gave Elon permission to send up more satellites too. As time goes by it will be total coverage. I’d imagine I’ll get it when I retire in 3 years. It should be flawless by then especially for boondocking 👍🏼I will want a lot of lithium to power it during the day.
Total game changer for us! We used to strike out trying to find camps with workable phone service and since we got Starlink we can go almost anywhere! Definitely need a healthy electrical system to run it for long periods, but our 400 watts of solar and 400 amps of lithium battery seems to be adequate.
@@TheVANgelicos that’s good to know. 400 and 400 👍🏼. I’d like to have 6-800 of lithium and however much solar I can get on the roof. Maybe a ground panel too. Thanks
I’m like 95% positive that I saw you two climbing on sweet rock last week
That totally was us! Glad to share such a beautiful day out climbing in such an awesome place! Maybe we’ll bump into ya again somewhere
It's so great to see you guys living such a fun life.
Thanks so much Carol! We were just talking about you and my days as a personal trainer! I wonder if you’re ears were ringing hahaha. We miss you and hope you’re happy and healthy!
I've never watched a UA-cam video of people rock climbing. I have to say that I decided to watch this whole video right off because you both seem very happy and have the type of adventurous spirit I do. Not to climb cliffs like you do but I drive a jeep with lots of my friends. I've been doing it now for about eight years and enjoy the desert a lot. Anyway; I like your enthusiasm and perseverance and sense of adventure. You also made me smile and laugh because you guys are really enjoying yourselves. I would have never been able to see the views you do if you hand not made this video so I thank you deeply. Watching you guys climb was a hoot! Stay safe...........
Thanks so much! We’re glad to be able to share our adventures with other adventurers and inspire people to get out of their comfort zone. The best feelings in life seem like they’re just on the other side of some discomfort and perseverance!
Love your channel
Thank you!
Be careful loved it
I still want to know where Geronimo buried those 2 trunks of gold in those mountains. I'm going to find them and turn his treasure into my booty.
Thanks so much for making this! It must have taken all day to upload in 4K.
You’re welcome! Glad you liked it, and yes it took about 15hrs to upload and another 30 hours or so to process HD lol.
Freaking BAD ASS!! I (Carrie) was getting so emotional when you made it! What a core memory that you will NEVER EVER forget! Congratulations! Well done!!! BTW…. Music was awesome!
Thanks guys! It was probably the hardest and most rewarding experience of our lives! We both feel so grateful for so many things after that grand adventure! Oh and thank you about the music! I used almost every song I’ve recorded from the van and wrote/recorded 4 more just for this film!
Outstanding!! So PROUD OF YOU 👏. Loved all the nice (gneiss) rocks, the pikas, the cirques, moraines, glaciers and the fact it was you doing that hike so I could sit back and enjoy!!!! By the way here’s a little scientific information. For every 300’ elevation gain you need to add 1 mile of expended energy to the overall mileage. Also add extra over 10,000’ as it increases exponentially for oxygen levels. Would have loved to have done an oximeter to see what your oxygen level and heart rate were. So I will say once again how proud I was of the both of you persevering! By the way you had Larry in the credits but I didn’t see him! Of course I stopped at that point so will go back and watch till the last clip.
Thanks so much Megs! What an amazing life experience!!! Larry may not have been featured in this movie but he always deserves a special thanks for “holding down the fort” while we’re away. He also always inspires us to “flower” past our limits. Miss you, and hope we’ll see ya sometime soon!
@@TheVANgelicos perhaps this winter we’ll meet again. Sending my love to you and Larry!🥰
Wow what a climb 👍🏼. I will say I loved the campsite. Very cool location in the trees like that. I’m guessing a little bit of altitude sickness maybe 🤷🏼♂️ but it’s a great accomplishment 👍🏼. Love the wildlife along the way and someone was definitely feeding the chipmunk 🐿. Great video
We got soooo lucky to have that awesome camp in the last bit of trees up that high on the mountain! The altitude sickness wasn’t so bad for us, but when we were on our descent there was a girl who was puking a lot from being up that high for so long! We call all mischievous chipmunks “Poterson” for a reason that is a long story, but that little bandit was definitely Poterson! Thanks again for watching!
Awesome f’n job guys!!! Great video! Thanks for taking us along on your Grand Summit! See you guys in a few days! 💚
Thanks so much guys! So stoked to have had such a life changing adventure and to have such a cool way to look back on it for years to come! Can’t wait to share more stories about it, see you soon!!!
YOU guys DID IT!!!! So wonderful to be able to watch and feel your myriad of physical and emotional challenges. The music certainly added to the personal experience. Way to go! I shall never summit this grand nor any other, but loved watching you achieve such personal accomplishment!
Thanks so much Mary!!! I am so proud of the whole thing! We always appreciate your support with our crazy goals and it’s pretty cool you guys camped with us up the day before we left! In a way you guys were with us through the highs and the lows! Love you, can’t wait to hang with y’all in a little while!
Nice job buddy! Hope to see y’all sooner than later down the road!
Thanks Mary! I’m sure we’ll cross paths sometime soon!
Highly recommend not pull testing gear with both hands. If the gear pops, you're going to have a bad time.
and this is why I leave all my tricams/nuts/hexes on a one or two biners for each gear type so that I can yank on the other ones with one hand to set/test the gear.
Yep definitely learned that lesson the hard way. Also just choosing a better piece of gear rather than trying to force the wrong one to work. A flared sandstone crack doesn’t exactly call for a smallish tricam. Still it’s good to be humbled and reminded of the reality that rock climbing is very dangerous. Our Trad climbing skills have come a long way since then but there’s always plenty more to practice and new situations to problem solve.
@@TheVANgelicos 3 points of contact too. Glad to see you're ok and not majorly injured.
Not bad. I like those long shots. They look the coolest 😂
Thanks! It’s fun to try out different things with filming. I might need to get a newer camera one of these days to make those longer shots a little nicer. And thanks for your loyal viewership even on the “different” kinda videos. Hope you’re doing well out there!
out here in farmington jus being jealous lol. beautiful views def checkin out nxt time up
Awesome place for some beautiful climbing in a beautiful setting! Have fun out there, I’m sure we’ll be back sometime!
so fun : )
I went to college down there and always had summer classes, so Mt. Lemmon and i got to know each other pretty good. There's some really neat hiking/biking trails. A really cool spot to go swimming equipped with a natural slide. The views are absolutely incredible and the canopy is beautiful. Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed the memories.
