The Kitchen Mom
Приєднався 20 жов 2011
I am an average mom that loves to bake. A lot of my videos are new recipes for me, but some are family favorites that I want to share with you. Sometimes the recipes are great for kids to help with and other times they are a little more challenging, like my current challenge to bake my way through The Great British Baking Show cookbook "Love to Bake."
Working in the kitchen this much allows me to use certain tools frequently, so occasionally my videos are product reviews that hopefully help you out if you are thinking about purchasing something.

Egg Bake Bites for a Quick and Delicious Breakfast! - Baking with Kids
There are lots of traditional recipes to go along with certain days on the church calendar, and @word-on-fire has recently released a cookbook to help bake along with the liturgy. The bonus is that they are easy for kids to do as well! Today's recipe is for Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

You're very kind for doing this demonstration. I don't see a reason for KitchenAid to keep making the beater without the silicone.
Thanks for watching!
Can you make a gelato for us please? I’d like to see how it turns out. Thank you 😊
I will add it to the list and try to get a video up for you! Thanks for watching!
What a whacky recipe. However, I’m curious enough to try it. Wish me luck 🍀
It really is whacky. I found it quite tasty, hope you do too. Let me know how it turns out! Good luck and thanks for watching!
So useful!!! Thank you
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching
So tasty recipe.
I need to make these again, because they were quite tasty. Thanks for watching!
Tasty puddings recipe.
It was surprisingly very tasty! Thanks for watching 🙂
More of an advertisement than a comparison. Maybe a bit of product research so you could actually say what attachments are available? The noise test is of no use, what's needed is a noise comparison UNDER LOAD. No demonstration of the efficiency of the various paddles and dough hook.
I was sent the Hauswirt mixer as part of a collaboration. It doesn’t have nearly as many attachments as the KitchenAid if that is what you are looking for. I did another video in the series that compares the two under load and with attachments. Thanks for watching! ua-cam.com/video/CCtiWuuFqLo/v-deo.html
Don't make it so technical. I have had my starter going for over 2 years. After you get it to the point of being bubbly you can put it in the fridge after feeding it and packing dry flour on top of it at least an inch. You can leave it in the fridge for a couple weeks without feeding it at all. When you get ready to bake again just take it out the evening before and add some water to the already dried flour on the top and it should be bubbly again for you the next morning and ready to use in your baking. I never weigh the water lol I know the consistency already so whatever flour I put in I just add enough water to get back to that point. I fought with this for over 4 years with so many fails. I watched a lady on UA-cam (sorry I can't remember the channel) that made my life so much easier with caring for my starter. If you accidentally put too much flour in or water in it will be fine. Just add whichever one you need to get back to the right consistency. If there's anything I can help you with I would be happy to do so because I truly know the struggle. As a side note when you're cold weather time or even summer and you're running the A/C just put your starter in the microwave or a cabinet over the stove so it will stay warmer. I have mine in a jar so regardless of where I sit the jar out to let the starter start bubbling up again I always place it into a larger bowl. Trust me on this lol if it is real active as mine is now it can bubble out of the jar and you will have a real mess on your hands. Hopefully all of this makes sense. When feeding it you want to feed it to the amount of starter you are going to need to bake however many loaves of bread you are planning on baking. You can just have the scraping left in your jar and that is enough to get the starter going again after feeding it. The fridge method also keeps you from having to constantly discard Your starter. There are so many recipes for the extra starter also so you don't have to discard it. Or you could give it to a friend so they do not have to go through the aggravation of making their own. Best of luck to you in the wonderful world of sourdough. God bless!
Thanks for watching! Yea, I was trying to follow the recipe as written in the book, but it did seem like a lot. Thanks for your advice, I’ll keep it in mind! 🙂
it'd be nice to see how you can wash these attachments too! Like is it easy to get it clean in the dishwasher? is it designed in a way that pools a lot of gross water?
None of the attachments that hook onto the front of the KitchenAid are dishwasher safe. The only ones you can put in the dishwasher are the beaters and dough hooks. The most annoying one to wash is the grater/slicer attachment, just because there are so many nooks and crannies to it. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching!
May I have the recipe please and looks delicious
Thanks for watching! I have a longer video of this recipe here ua-cam.com/video/yydxdoMe0D8/v-deo.html But here is the written recipe as well. 180 g pitted dried dates 150 ml just boiled water 3 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced 80 ml olive oil 100 g light brown sugar 120 ml milk 1 tsp vanilla paste 180 g all purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 200 g powdered sugar 60 g butter ½ tsp vanilla paste Place dates in a pan and cover with just boiled water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, leave to cool slightly, then blitz with a hand-held blender to puree. Place the apples in a pan with 1 tbsp of water. Cook over low heat, gently simmering for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat, leave to cool slightly, then blitz with a hand-held blender to puree. Preheat oven to 350℉. Place olive oil, sugar, milk, and vanilla paste in a large mixing bowl and whisk until combined. Add the date puree and 200 g of the apple puree. Whisk until smooth. Stir in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and gently beat together to a thick batter. Don’t over mix. Divide the mixture equally in a 12-hole muffin pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until well risen and golden brown, and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Leave to cool completely in the tins. Place the powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla paste in a medium mixing bowl and mix with an electric hand whisk, adding milk if necessary, until light and creamy. Turn the cakes out of the tins and pipe a swirl of icing onto each one.
Exactly the video I was looking for! Thank you! 😊
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!

What model # is your commercial mixer
My model's number is KSM8990NP. It appears as if they have updated to a new model number, and unfortunately a higher price tag. This would be the new equivalent to the one I have amzn.to/3TNNWn5
@@the.kitchenmom I just purchased a Commercial Kitchen aid mixer model # KSM8990CU is that relatively the same ? I'm confused
Yes, I believe the one you purchased is just the updated version of mine.

Why not just use jalapeños? That salsa looks weak AF
Feel free to substitute for the green peppers if you make it. I don’t like hot and spicy so the cayenne is enough for me. Thanks for watching!
@@the.kitchenmom no thank you. Unlike you i actually know what a real salsa is and this ain’t it.
@@psychobillychefI like the jalapeno idea but you should've kept that second comment to yourself.

So, the thing is your mum’s might KitchenAid might have been pre Whirpool. Hobart sold the KitchenAid division to Whirlpool in 1985, but the deal wasn’t finalised until 1986. So I know you said for about 20 years she had it, which would make it post Hobart (and those are the KitchenAids that apparently just DO NOT last as long as Hobart’s KitchenAids used to last. Like I literally just read a post where someone inherited their grandma’s mixer. The model that person inherited first came out in 1937, however, they kept making that design until 1955. So, it’s unclear at this point how old the mixer is, but it’s anywhere between 69 to 87 years old. That mixer still works well. That Hobart KitchenAid quality just isn’t there anymore. However, I do think that people nowadays are too distracted and aren’t used to reading manuals (69-87 years ago people were more disciplined imho) - so, I think some of them not lasting for too long is due to people misusing the machine and not taking the best care of it. Older generations used to service their mixers/ sewing machines/ etc regularly, and nowadays people just expect it to work and work and work until it simply breaks, and then instead of repairing it, they buy new. Anywaaaayy… I have a few questions? How old is your mum’s mixer (did she buy it from new), and does she service it regularly/ occasionally? I just purchased a 5KSM7990XBER, and I just want to make sure that I take the best care of it as I possibly can. 😅
Thanks for your questions! My mom would have purchased her mixer new around 2000 maybe 2001. It would definitely be post Hobart. I do not recall it ever being serviced, nor is that something I would see my mom doing. I think she may have just gotten a really good one in the luck of the draw. I totally agree with you that things are just not made with the same quality anymore. I hope you enjoy your new mixer and that it lasts you a long time! Thanks for watching!
Watch all the way to the end 🤣hilarious!

I have a Pro 600 (along with a Tilt Head) which I love & have no problems with, I might want a 3rd machine with more power for tougher doughs that I’m worried could be too much for my 600 to tackle. I wish they didn’t discontinue the ProLine 7 with a DC motor, & I’m not sure about the re-designed 7 Qt with only a 500 watt motor. So I might be looking into this Commercial model as well. Awesome review!
I’m glad the review was helpful for you. Thanks for watching!

Thank You so much for making this video there are very few videos on the attachments for the commercial models for some reason
Glad I could be of assistance! I wasn’t even sure when I bought the commercial mixer that any attachments would work. I’m not sure why there is lack of information on it. Thanks for watching!
I love my KitchenAid Stand Mixer & I actually have 2 of them, but this Hauswirt is slowly starting to grow on me. I think I’ll do all three Mixers via Hauswirt & my 2 KitchenAids.
That’s what I have in my kitchen right now, lol. Artisan KitchenAid, commercial KitchenAid, and the Hauswirt. Thanks for watching!
A salad for a day like today !
Absolutely perfect! Thanks for watching!
I was a chef for 24 years and I've noticed when chefs, or any accomplished cook, write a recipe we are almost arrogant in how we presume a level of knowledge from the person reading the recipe. I think you showed where the glaring gaps are in this recipe. When they say 'bring together' why not say it should look like a crumble? Why not explain that a syrup should coat (or nappe) the back of a spoon? The cost of saffron makes it a luxury item, especially as you use one strand and leave 90% of the jar at the back of a cupboard somewhere, but there are alternatives, why not mention them? I think you did really well, but the recipe let you down in parts. I'm in the process of writing my first recipe book, more of a labour of love for my daughters and grandchildren than a commercial enterprise, but I learnt a lot from this video. Thank you.
I love this! Glad my inexperience could help! I have definitely had some learning curves. In my jam and custard doughnut one, I think the book said to cook the custard “until custard consistency.” I had never had a custard and therefore definitely did not cook it long enough! Oh well. Thanks for watching, and I hope your recipe book goes well!
❤🎉
Thanks for the vid, can you tell me how it's been behaving since the last time you reviewed it? I make a lot of bread at home so I just want to make sure it can withstand the amount of work I'll put it through. A friend of mine was using an artisan mixer to make her bread dough and in a couple of months the gears started to wear, and KitchenAid did not want to honor the warranty as they told her that it was made to only be used once a week with heavy work and no more.
Oh interesting. I’ve had the 8 qt for almost a year now and I use it multiple times a week to make double batches of breads, and scones (pretty dense dough). It is holding up great. The motor still sounds quiet and solid. I could definitely see where the artisan one isn’t standing up to making breads much. I only use my artisan one to make icings and cakes anymore. Hope that is helpful, thanks for watching!
@the.kitchenmom thanks for the reply, that's gives me some peace of mind! I'll definitely see if I can buy one of these commercial grade mixers in the very near future 😊

Your daughters look to be great helpers, you mentioned another bar recipe that you make that is a little less time consuming could you share it? Thank you
Thank you! Yes, my other recipe is a lot less work, though I do like the dark chocolate of the rocky road recipe. Here is the other one. I'll probably make a video of it at some point. Thanks for watching! Melt 5 cups of mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, corn syrup, and butter either in the microwave or over the stove until melted and smooth when stirred. Stir in vanilla. Pour over cereal and quickly toss until completely coated. Stir in 1 cup mini marshmallows. Press mixture evenly into greased 13x9 in pan.
