Quit Smoking by Vaping
How I stopped a lifelong habit of smoking, even after only two months my lungs feel like I have never smoked at all, our body's ability to heal itself is quite amazing, do it in time, like I did and you won't look back.

Fantastic song and orchestration. I love the line ' there's a tyre around my gut from sitting on my butt'. A song that oozes pathos and longing.

Basically am means in the morning so anytime between 12 to 12 and rock is a big or little stone hope that helps🙂

His line "feelin' all of forty-five, goin' on fifteen" hit home with a couple of DJs I knew of (including one I knew personally)...both of them came to realize they were "forty years old, and playing music for fourteen year olds". One went from rock/pop into "Music Of Your Life" and became a local fixture there, while the other left the industry for academia.

I knew this and Cat's in the Cradle from British radio in the 70s, but can say that I realised Harry Chapin's genius only now as I am getting old. A true poet and brilliant songwriter, up there with the very best.

Original sad ending? I have heard him do several recordings of this song, both live and studio, and I have never heard any other ending. So when it says original ending I don't know what that's about.

Am wondering, and with all due respect to Mr. Chapin: the radio station names in the eastern half of the U.S. start with "W," while the western part start with a "K." I would have loved if the song had been "...the morning D.J. at K.O.L.D. " to telegraph "old & cold-hearted?" Ot perhaps, too on-the-nose?

THe sad irony is that Harry Chapin sang about old DJs in a dead-end-position, and about dads who lost contact to their sons, but himself never reached the age of forty.

This was the single that got me into Harry Chapin and I then collected all his records, some twice. My cousin Ronnie (RIP) and me used to listen to this and sing along. Died too soon in a car crash and funnily enough I went to New York in 1978 to a record store on Times Square and the attendant had never heard of him. Thought I meant Mary Chapin Carpenter.

New Harry and he was undoubtedly the most accomplished and "decent" performer of his time and genre, and a great humanitarian. Still saddens me he was taken from us so soon and so tragically. Just one comment about the title to this ... Never new W*O*L*D really had anything BUT a sad ending! But all of us who lived the "on the air life" had our victories, and sadly, I think more so our sorrows.

There are some strange peculiarities to this version of WOLD. It's significantly sped-up from the original. I had to change the speed to .55 in settings to make it match up reasonably well with the original's key. Also, there are some overlapping vocals towards the end; one can hear the mentions of "AM rock" and "eight years" from the beginning of the song. But I'm wondering if perhaps that's just a case of sound bleeding on a reel-to-reel tape. Could anyone tell me if this is a bona fide alternate mix or if it's just a reel-to-reel tape sped up, with unintentional additional sounds at the end caused by the aforementioned bleeding?

Please don't listen to Harry's studio recordings. They do not do the man justice. Producers and engineers ruin everything that was great about Harry's writing and performing. His touring band was elite. The live recordings are beyond legendary. His live catalog is a treasure for the world. T

WOLD is obviously supposed to be the call sign of a radio station, but the locations mentioned are west of the Mississippi and call signs would start with K KOLD might actually have been a better name

Boy, this sure made the deejaying business look so depressing. And the fact that he abandoned his family to pursue his career, only to be subjected to frequent, brutal dismissals and constant moving around. And when he finally tries to reconcile with his wife and kids, but gets rejected, it truly breaks your heart. It kind of traumatized me as an 11 year old listening to this tragic tale!

Is Harry Chapin a two hit wonder? Harry Chapin does have 2 Top 10 tunes and they are: Taxi in spring of 1972, and the Number 1 smash hit, Cat’s In A Cradle back in December 1974/January 1975. However Cat’s In A Cradle by Harry Chapin only spent only 1 week on January 5, 1975.

As an aspiring radio DJ, I heard this song and thought I could beat the reality. I was wrong. Two wives and 3 beautiful children later...I found myself abandoned by the people I loved and believed loved me. That was 35 years ago. I still miss the wife and children I lost chasing that dream. This song hurts. I still love those adult kids now....but they have cut me from their lives. I wish I could change some things of the past.
