good question, apologies for the lack of clarity- I would repeat the oil/butter steps more than once - these gourds are very fragile, and this is the step which will leave you mostly protected against damage. Do repeat the yerba steps, too. The longer you take to cure a gourd, wooden or calabash, the less likely it is to break :)

hey man, apologies for the lack of reply, I didn't see your comment. I've never heard of that brand, but there are many out there, honestly the best way is to discover it for yourself. I dedicate myself more to the cultural and history side of yerba mate, as that's what I'm better at - I have a lot of friends like @yerbatravels who you mentioned who do a much better job than I could in terms of flavour profiles and stuff. It really depends on your tastes. I like organic ones, as well as some stronger ones. Canarias or Rei Verde are decent stronger ones, kraus and Anna park good softer ones

depends on the family they're from mostly. In South America a lot of people start drinking it very young, when they're kids, but I know some people who also weren't given it by their parents until later in life (teenage years). I started drinking as a late teenager, as I'm not from there, and that's when I discovered it. Hope that helps :)

make sure you drink at the right temperature. It's a strong drink. Try adding herbs, depending on where you live they'll vary. Lemongrass, mint, lemon verbena, chamoumile, even honey.

I wouldn't, simply because it's already had water in it. Some people do it to save yerba/money, but they dry it out first. If possible, I would avoid this method

@qwikrthanquick5209 you can use either new yerba mate from the packet, or yerba mate from another gourd that you've been drinking from. And yes, the old yerba mate you've been using to cure the gourd, you'll throw away

Hey, Pajarito is from Paraguay! Give me a moment, ill link a video we made about tereré. Techinucally it does have palo, uruguayan yerba, but the palo have been ground up so finely that it just seems like more leaves.

You can use hot water to make Pajarito too, but its better with tereré imo. Tereré = paraguayan. Uruguayan yerba mates should be drank warm

@@KastyelSinleth hey - I wouldn't say this is normal at all - if it is calabash, it is possible that the quality of the gourd isn't great. I hope you can get a better one!
