Elderberry Live Cuttings and Flood Tank Setup
Our experiment with using flood tanks for live cuttings. We flood the tanks once a day and immediately let them drain. We also have an over head sprinkler set on a timer to keep the leaf's moist thru out the day.

Elderberry Farming - MAKING CUTTINGS AND USING OUR NO TILL PLANTER
How has this been working?
Do you sell any cuttings?
We do - but we are sold out now. We have small potted plants available now. Cuttings will be available starting in Dec- Jan depending on how hard it freezes.
How are those Pocahontas plants looking now?
I'm happy to see some people are living the dream. 😭
Nice.
Just curious, what would it cost per acre just for the plants?
Good Morning Please reach out to me at sales@buehlerorganics.com We plant 900 plants per acre. The cost does depend on the variety that you pick.
I just used my last bag of elderberries from your farm!❤
Do you companion plant in the long open rows?
The larger cuttings won't help anything. Elderberry will grow just fine with shorter cuttings You'd been better off using heated beds to root out the cuttings for spring time
We've discovered we gain a year of progress towards berry production. The two foot cuttings gave usa decent berry and flower harvest a year sooner then the tradtional 8 in cutting
Does that creek ever flood and wash your work downstream? Has happened a few times on my farm and getting more frequent.
It does flood but they have enough of a root system that they normally grow right back.
Did the 2 foot cuttings make a more mature plant in less time?
Yes they seem to mature faster
How did this experiment with two foot cuttings turn out? With long cuttings?
it did give us a year head start we found! We are getting berries and flowers sooner then the traditional 8 in cutting
What was temperature during time of planting
we plant in the winter and spring. as long as the grounds not frozen you can plant the cuttings
Very little visual info on what they showing in the process
And the end of your day in the fields we’re not that far from you we live in Golden
Hi just interested to know approx price of those planting machines ?
Unfortunately we have not made any to sell so far. I will talk with my boss about possibly making them to sell. Reach out to me at sales@buehlerorganics.com
Awesome project. Great work!
The mulch spreader is really neat, gotta find one.
I'm not sure where we got ours but we rent it out if you need to use one
What a fantastic operation, basically the exact farm model ive been trying to build here in Ohio for the last couple years. We tried blackcurrants at first, that failed, so we tried gooseberries, that failed too. You have a reefer unit on site for cold storage? Hownis it powered, a dorect 220v hookup? Are the berries frozen prior to pressing? Is the juice pasturized prior to bottling? Bottled on site, or is there a central consolidation point for multiple farms? Hows the juice yield in gallons per lb? Fantastic, i need to go visit.
Good Morning yes we have reefer trailers for storage. We harvest, destem, sanitize, and bottle on site. We host farm tours weekly and also have a BnB on site that we rent out. We would love to have you
You don’t cook the elderberries, just squeeze them?
we do heat them up after its been pressed before we bottle it.
Beautiful spray clouds, seems to be everywhere
Great people at Bueler Organics!
Thank you for the kind words !

Love it! I’m getting ready to make a batch of Elderberry Kombucha with the Elderberries I purchased from you guys!❤ My Princess Elderberry bush I purchased from you last fall is coming up quite nicely! We look forward to purchasing from you again.😄
So happy to hear that its doing well!!
Do deer or rabbits mess with elderberry starts? Though you appear to be in a less deer/rabbit prone area then I am. 👍Have a great day.
Thats a good question. We have heard they can, but personally at our farm we have a ton of deer around and they don't mess with them. They do have other good food source options though and I think that helps.
@@buehlerorganics7607 ty for the info.
This has me excited for our grove!❤
were excited to see what you do
@@buehlerorganics7607 same LOL!!!
do you fertilize these rows? I’ve heard elderberries use up nitrogen quickly.
We do not fertilize ours. But its entirely up to you if you want to fertilize yours it depends on how your soil is if they will need fertilizer
Thanks for the video. What Sanitizer do you use / recommend?
You can use SaniDate , Bleach , Hydroperoxide, I recommend looking up sanitizer that is safe to use on food.
Thank you for sharing, what the make model of the two seated tractor attachment?
We make our own planter attachments. If you would like one or have more questions, feel free to email me at sales@buehlerorganics.com
What plant and row spacing are you using?
4 feet between each plant, 14 feet between rows
Great work David!
thanks for the kind words!
👍 good idea ! Doing that now, here in Ohio’s clay the frost will pop those right up. Lol. Just a hint from an ol’ timer… kick a short piece of 2x6 along with you. Tap that post hole’r (dirt end) on it (at an angle) . Might need to spin it as ya tap it. Should pop that dirt out right out.
@@jeffshiley7269thanks so much for that idea, definitely doing that next time
Excellent Video! We love to buy our elderberries from Beuhler Farms.❤ Luanne Bullard
Congratulations to you! Dinny & I are believing for a successful and profitable crop for your ministry! We love you guys! Luanne Bullard
Leaves of Elderberry have bad smell.
I don't know where you are located at or what kind of elderberry you have but we are in southwest Missouri an our elderberry leaves do not have any bad smells
Only if you sprayed something on them you shouldn't have. In North Arkansas they don't smell.
We harvest elderberry every year. We read there is a fair amount of arsenic in the stems and berries and berries must be boiled first. Do you boil the juices after pressing?
We press all our berries an strain the seeds out. We heat ours but we don't boil them. we also have ours third party tested an we have never had a problem with arsenic
I think the arsenic thing is more bc they elderberry trees seed themselves out on all kinds of soil, including polluted soil and probably pics up some of the pollutions in such soil. But if you have unpolluted soil that shouldn't be an issue
Like with the hull of rice, that comes primarily from spray chemical buildup in soil or having naturally occurring arsenic in the soil levels.
Oh? Arsenic? I ate tons of elderberry raw off the bush as a child. Maybe that's what happened. Lol
you've got two typs of mulch spreader? please write names of companies
The new one is from Mill Creek. the other one we just got from a friend an we don't know the company its from
So amazing. I love it and hope you keep making videos! So interesting.
When is the best time of year to plant the stem cuttings? I'm guessing late winter early spring? Thanks
Late winter or early spring for the cuttings. But the potted plants you can plant plant year round
@@buehlerorganics7607 Thank you for the info! I have had these awesome plants on my property for year and use the berries for many things and I never knew they were that easy to propagate! Thanks again
Where can this be purchased ?

What a great idea!
We were at Elder Farm today. I wanted to see the inside, but someone was renting it. I’m so glad I got to see this video!
Could you show your cleaning/washing process for the elderberries?
That’s a great idea, I will start editing a video this week and try to get it posted soon :)
@@buehlerorganics7607 a deeper look at that destemmer would be amazing too. That beast looks amazing!
why are you harvesting the elderberry leaves?
I wondered that too
We use the leaves for our salves. It works great for minor cuts, skin irritation and burns. I love using it for sun burns right now
@@buehlerorganics7607 Does it also act a mosquito repellant?
@@buehlerorganics7607 do the leaves come back or does it kill the plant and you start over?
@@shirleyc8265 We normally harvest the leaves after the berries are done right before the plant starts losing its leaves for fall. No it will not kill the plant.
hey that was pot with buds at the end
It said hemp.
I know
How much for something like this?
$7k

thank you so much for alerting us of this. I made the change to it now
How do you deal with weeds without any weed fabric? I really do not want to till and lay fabric but weed issues make me nervous.
you still need to rely on some form of weed control, this customer was planning on mulching after the planting. Currently at our farm we are also taking on a big task of mulching the majority of our rows.
