Lol dear old Ron pickering, had no comprehension of the time he was going to run, it was obvious with 2 laps to go that he would smash the record, but Ron dismissevely suggested we should look for the UK record at 13:14

I love the USA and have wonderful American relatives and friends, but the desperate need to win all the time in sport, business and combat is their big weakness. Its probably rooted in insecurity being a relative upstart at only 250 years old. Anyway they'll get over it in time and realise that failure teaches valuable lessons and makes eventual success all the sweeter. Obviously Zola was blameless here. Only a fool would believe otherwise. Today's athletes are trained differently and can block out negativity. A modern Zola equivalent would refocus, win emphatically, smile derisively at the booing buffoons and collect on their massive sponsorship deals.

I remember all the negative propaganda against Zola Budd which made most people feel bad about Mary Decker including myself. I now realize how much damage the media can cause. Zola Budd was a victim period. Mary Decker was arrogant and on top of that made a scene in front of the cameras just because things did not go her way. In a race when you are boxed in you just have to wait for the right moment to try to break free. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but you cannot interfere with the runner in front of you as simple as that.

Zola Budd should have been wearing spikes. Had she been wearing spikes her careless placement of her feet would have been or should have been proper, meaning intentional reckless running, thus deliberatley spoiling the race. Made me sick then, makes me sick now.

Probably Foster’s greatest championship performance given the 60 second lap mid race and the final time only just outside the world record. Notable was Viren turning away when the gold medal was presented and not clapping.

Decker stepped on Zola Budd's bare heel, driving her spikes into it. Zola Budd didn't have eyes in the back of her head. Decker was boxed in. She tried to pass on the inside. She caused the trainwreck.

Zola Budd should have been banned. I remember the "controversy" at the time on the news but didn't get to see the video (review it again and again) the way you can now on UA-cam. It's very clear that Budd sensed Decker was trying to pass and you can see her thrust her foot abnormally to the left in front of Decker and plant it (actually slowing herself to keep her weight on it longer than normal), the exact thing you do to trip someone who is trying to pull even with you.

There are spikes on those shoes to grip the track. To save distance the runners moved inner lane. Zola defied everything with having bare feet. Imagine this if one of other runners including Mary would have stepped on Zola’s feet. Then it would have been , “ Oh she was trying to injure her blah blah”. But being it was highly political charged thing with Apartheid and all this was just one of the Olympic dramas of history that played out in media and society for quite awhile.

I just wish he had been at his best in those 1984 Olympics the 5000m but we can’t have it all no one ever has a bad word about this man & so underrated because of Ovett Coe & Cram

Wendy Sly - #151 white uniform? Mary Decker - #373 red uniform? Maricica Puica- #316 Yellow top, blue bottom It's hard for me to say from watching this how much the fault was Mary Decker's or Wendy Sly's. Did Sly pull over in front of Decker causing the collision? With automobiles, in my country (the U.S.) if you pull across in front of someone, then a rear-end collision *can* be the fault of the car in front. But I don't know the rules of track.
