    • @scottmingersoll
      @scottmingersoll 17 годин тому

      Yeah the previous version that were Icon clones also had entirely different switch designs than these current versions are more similar to the Pittsburgh pro offerings, I herd the reason for this is because Harbor Freight complained to Infar the company that produces of Icon ratchets. Lucky I snagged two of the original kits up when they were still offering the icon clones.

    • @Ratchet313
      @Ratchet313 4 години тому

      @@scottmingersoll @ToolDemos did a teardown of this ratchet and the Icon ratchet and they definitely are different ratchets. This epAuto model is an older dual pawl design, where the Icon is a single pawl. The obvious tell is the third screw on the faceplate needed to hold the selector switch in place. The previous version of the epAuto ratchet looked to be the exact same ratchet as the Icon, from the same Taiwanese factory because it had the same model stampings with just a different brand stamp/engraving on the head. This is no longer the case.

    • @scottmingersoll

      Yeah the ones I have are single pawl and stamped RS2 just like the Icon.

    That 3/8 sounds like it could benefit from some oil. But then, i have a tendency to over oil my stuff a little. Looks like the case has a metal hinge pin in the back, too. Seems to be a good deal if it's about the price of an Icon ratchet. The first thing i usually check when i pick up a ratchet is for play in the anvil and how much the direction level moves when the anvil turns. I've had a couple of ratchets that would almost change their own direction if the anvil is turned too fast.

      Pretty much all harbor freight tools come with barely any oil in them. I use super lube synthetic grease. They don’t sound as good as they do before you do it but they have less back drag and more consistent operation. My snap on repair kit came w the same super lube as they sell at harbor freight. I use it every day at my work and it’s incredible. I always say it’s the best thing hf sells. I have the older version of this set and nobody mentions that it has all kinds of weird sizes that are missing from most kits

    I got a stubby, version of that HF wrench. Had it for years, and use it for First Response/EMT. Drilled a hole in the handle, and have it on my pack. Never fails or wobbles. I use a breaker bar on it, too. No problems... Best free tool, I ever used. I found it on the exit, by HF. However, they don't make them anymore. But Ace Hardware carries the remnant stock. I think it came, in a mini kit.

    I've got a couple of the Bahco in my cart on Amazon, along with a couple of pairs from Lobtex. I've really been enjoying all the Japanese made tools I discovered recently, like Koken, Tone, and Vessel. The quality has been second to none. But I've read a lot of really good reviews for the Lobtex wrenches. I believe the tollerances will quickly loosen on those Pittsburgh, way before the Bahco ever does. They just make a good product with better steel. Bahco is owned by Snap-on.

    How not to use or compare adjustable wrenches. And I don’t mean the hammer part. For $3 it seems like a great wrench although supposedly the jaws on these should not be parallel by (original) design.

      No there are tools their that are almost one time use and I say this from experience, the Hercules line is legit and I can’t talk shit on it, the Bauer line however does have a hit or miss ratio, definitely buy the extended warranty with the Bauer tools, the big ass Bauer hammer drill I bought to break up concrete from old fence posts and granted it did a great job of doing it, but the next time I needed it months later and after I did lube it up again like it asked the motor straight fried, I have also had dewalt motors fry within their warranty period so it is what it is

Definitely made me question about putting the warranty on any new bauers I get

You need more ready to eat food and dump out those water bottles because you need water in them ready to go, you also dont need 10,000 matches lol. No medical? Wet weather gear is a must and that thin poncho wont do it lol also socks unless you're not walking, take that bag and NOTHING else, dont fill anything or change anything and walk out the door and stay in the woods for 72 hours with all that and youll learn that the vast majority of it is completely unnecessary. Im no expert by any means, but that bag isn't as useful as you think it is or as useful as it should be.

    CPM 3V is known primarily for its toughness and has decent edge retention. The tradeoff is it’s not stainless. The chipping of the edge is not something this steel is prone to unless it wasn’t properly heat treated. This is the reason this steel is used on hard use fixed blades more than other type of knives. The edge can take abuse without chipping. The fact that it’s a powder metallurgy steel also aids in toughness as the grain structure of the steel is smaller and more uniform compared to ingot steel thereby reducing the vulnerability of cracks forming in the harder carbides within the steel matrix and spreading to an an actual fracture of the knife. Sorry for the long winded post.

As for the locking bit holder, the only one I can think of off the top of my head I might like more is the Wera rapidapter that comes in the tool check plus, though it can be purchased separately. Not only is it locking quick release, but also quick insert, you don't need to unlock it to insert the bit. Kind of like the collet on a quality impact driver.
