Sounds kinda like Jesu with the atmospheric/chorus boys, then kinda like High on Fire/Celtic Frost or something with the chugging..good stuff.

Yeah, I agree! Or at least there are so many FZ-2 clones that sound the same as this 30 bucks plastic thing.
cant you get the same result by tuning down and using a Boss Metal zone? I see you turning knobs and making no difference to the sound
The difference is there though it pretty much depends on the amp. In some cases it makes more difference. Here we are testing the pedal- we do not compare or evaluate it. You decide whether you like what you’re hearing or not. The Metal Zone has a completely different sound.
Perfect! How does it perform behind a high gain tube amp?
Depends on the amp. We tried it with Orange, Diezel, Laneys and Friedman. Worked better with the Laneys and the clean channel of the Friedman but it’s a matter of taste. Some high gain amps completely change the character of the preamp but I see how that can be appealing to some people.
Sonic terror make amazing cabs and pedals I had a sonic rat personally I hate rat pedals unless used as boost set to push another pedal I had to sell my sonic rat because even by itself it was to much for me and keep in mind my pedal of choice is the danelectro fab tone which is a pedal full of hate and despair…as usual this channel kicked ass on the demo

Same! The RAT is the perfect booster for heavy fuzz scenarios especially if the fuzz has too much low end.
The Mountain is my favorite rodent-based pedal!
My top 3 change every recording session but this one is always there.

In my not so humble opinion the Keeley moon op amp is the best muff and anyone who knows me knows I hate muffs notice I didn’t say I hate MUFF ya dig
I have found the rat is best when set as a boost in front of another more angry pedal I could never get into the rat and how great it was supposed to be until I used it as a boost
Completely agree! These style of pedals are amongst the best to boost heavy fuzz boxes.

Boosting the rat with a mid hump overdrives pisses it right off
@@vrrc7686 I use my rat to boost my fab tone and occasionally I use a custom pedal my grandfather who is an electrical engineer made me when I was a teenager it’s a custom circuit I call it the guardian of the moat and it really sounds like no other pedal I use it very rarely since it’s a one of one and pop is getting older I sometimes also use the fangs pedal but my fav is the fab tone it’s basically the sound of angels fucking
