Black walnut is a hardwood that's relatively strong for its weight and works well with power or hand tools. It's also good for shaping and turning. Black walnut can be used for both interior and exterior projects, but it's more commonly used for interior use because it can darken and change color when exposed to sunlight. When used outdoors, black walnut is best suited for areas that are protec...

Cutting some really nice 8/4 red cedar lumber. I was able to get some really nice boards. I do want to mention that I really like using the Wood-Mizer Razor Sharp Carbide Blade it is a little costly but a very impressive cut. Using my Woodpeckers Slab Flattening Mill to flatten a pecan slab to be used as a fireplace mantle. This does a really good job to flatten slabs as long as you use a high horsepower router and a good surfacing bit.

He saw some of the prettiest wood I've ever seen keep on cutting
I sure will.
The live edge on those boards is right up my alley. Very nice boards. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like them! I will be sharing more.
@@shadyoakssawmill7754 I almost sent a link to an asian saw mill. The board they found in this tree was too amazing to describe. Not to mention it was 30 ft x 6 to 8 ft wide. Those guys have no respect for the tools. They work in flip-flops and stick they're arms next to the running blade. I have a hard time watching them for long. Keep on keeping on neighbor. Love the show.
I love watching this type of content provider, because you can always learn more. What I learned today from our provider is - He has to the most popular guy on the block. Beautiful beam. I'm very happy installing those thing are in my rear-view mirror. I told my grandson, there are a ton of ways to have a good time and spending a day doing this would be a very good day.
This is almost an obsession, I enjoy this so much and would love it if my grandchildren would get involved. But I don't think that will happen. I'm really glad that you enjoy watching and Thank You. A P "Tony" Ciardo Shady Oaks Sawmill
Good to see your video again
Thanks, I have been selling a lot of hay and trying to get more work done on the remodel of the house before I wind up sleeping on the sawmill, trying to keep my better half happy and my customers gets a little tricky at times.
@shadyoakssawmill7754 it's important to keep the wife happy.
Good luck to you
I can use all the luck that anyone wants to send.
Hot to solenoid and negative to what?
Negative to any metal the entire mill is grounded. I loosened a screw and slid a spade connector under it.
Ground to anything metal, the entire mill is grounded.
I can’t believe more sawyers aren’t talking about doing this.
Agree it is a safety issue I'm sure but many times I would really like to make adjustments when the head is at the other end.
Me too. I still forget it doesn’t work off the copper strip and try to use it. Only to realize I have to back the head up. Kind of frustrating.
There ain't no hiding why the pecan is your favorite. That wet really brings out the possibilities of the Pecan. That last one I watched you do was a very nice example.
Thanks for the comment, there is something really different about Pecan it is really hard to describe and the pictures really don't do justice.
Nice looking dogs
Thanks for the comment, we fell in love with the both of them. We started out with 5 strays and were able to rehome 3 but these 2 had to stay together they would not leave each other's side, and we were afraid they wouldn't make it without each other. It has been a very costly endeavor, but well worth it.
Love watching your videos. I think my favorite was when you made the cedar shakes
I'm currently looking for some Cedar Mill Logs to make more, I lost my Cedar Plot due to the passing of my contact and the family sold the property. As soon as I acquire more logs I will be cutting more.
Of all the sawyer sites I watch, you are numero uno when it comes to giving the equipement the respect it deserves. I just wish you had watered that ETP to let us see the finish.🍺😊✔ I subbed anyway. love the channel.
Thank you, I would have watered but forgot to fill the jugs I will make sure next time they are full.
Beautiful wood!!
Thanks, Pecan is one of my favorite woods to work with.
Looked like some Osage orange standing up when you moved the camera 👍🏻
You are correct I cut Osage Orange from time to time, (When I was a kid, we called it Horse Apple Tree).
@ I brought back a log from Oklahoma last year and milled it. Great looking stuff.
Boy you've got your mill set up really setup really nice
Thanks, I really like the setup; the only thing I need to do is to add 4 more exhaust fans down low when we get a south wind it tends to fight the fans so a mask is necessary. Along with milling I also use this area for planning lumber.
running a gas engine indoors?, what kind of idiot do they raise in texas?
Love how you set up for indoor work, all those fans!
They work really great at times I need to mask up when the wind is strong out of the South. I will be adding another row at the bottom and in doing that I believe the South wind want be an issue anymore.
Thats a beauty cedar!
I really like working with cedar it and pecan are my favorite woods. Sorry about the video it was a lot longer, but the wireless mic batteries went dead and all you could hear is buzzing.
I like your setup for the lap siding jig. It's struggle by myself getting that heavy ass thing on there. I don't use it much but that would be a lot easier your way!
I'm like you I do everything myself and have to come up with ways to get things done without busting my tail, I broke my back in 1990, so I work really hard at working smart and not hard I'm sure you know what I mean. I was using one of my tractors to set it on the mill but that was still a chore, so I invested about $300.00 in a winch pullies and cable, now problem solved. Thanks for subscribing Tony.
Have you ever seen Out of the Woods channel in Tennessee he saw a lots and lots of Walnut black walnut he started out with an HD 35 like yours about 2 years ago now he's got one of them HD 70 meal from wood visor
Yes, I watch it all the time great channel.

Yes I subscribe to his channel and enjoy watching when I have time.
part of the country do you come from or where are you at that sure is a nice Hickory log you got on your mill
East Texas about 60 mile southeast of Dallas
I just found your Channel you're doing a fine job on the videos I really enjoy watching your channel I have been watching two old men doing Timber framing I really enjoy watching it Cutten Lumber the way people did 150 years ago only doing it on a sawmill
I really enjoy wood working it has always been a passion of mine. In early 80 I had my own company doing custom trim but it was tough trying to raise a family so in 84 I went to work for a water utility and retired this year after 40 years so now I spend my time milling or cutting hay.
Beautiful wood and shop. Bushog some " BoDock" and had to buy new front tires because of the thorns.
The Osage Orange is what I called a Horse Apple Tree when I was growing Up it puts off a big round bumpy fruit.
I thought Willie Nelson had started a new business.
That was a good one, no a great one.
The aroma would be heavenly.
I have people come to the mill that tell me they can smell the cedar as soon as they get out of the car. I guess I am so used to it I never notice the smell except when I am bagging cedar shavings for sale.
Nice setup. Do you plan to keep your mill setup inside, if so do you have plans to change over to ac power for your mill. That is one nice mill, you should be proud. That is some great looking hickory. Do you have plans for a project to use it on?
I have it setup so that the mill can be moved in and out as needed, there are times that I will have an order for 8/4 X 20' Oak and due to the weight of the Oak I have to pull the mill outside, not that often but on occasions. I installed exhaust fans that work very well to keep sawdust and exhaust fumes out. As for the hickory no plans just yet but I'm sure I will come up with something if I don't sell it first. I am really happy with the setup; I'm only a one-person mill (I broke my back in 1990) so I have tried to make things work specifically for me and so far it works well the only time it is a little difficult is when I'm cutting Oak, it would be nice to have some help. Thank You for the comment Tony Shady Oaks Sawmill
@@shadyoakssawmill7754Awesome work
@@keithbonds947 Thanks
Just found your channel and became a new subscriber and I have a couple of suggestions if you’d care to hear them. You need to wear a mic so they can hear what you’re saying, I see you got all cleaned up for the video but you didn’t clean your sawmill shed. You got a great sawmill shed ,I wish I had one like it. Healthwise I would wear a mask with all that sawdust flying around. God bless ✌️🇨🇦
Thanks for the advice! I appreciate you subscribing. The exhaust fans do a really good job removing the dust at times I do have to wear a mask due to the wind direction not allowing the fans to work well.
I do like it, I use it to make cedar shingles which is very time-consuming, I have a UA-cam video using the jig to make shingles.
You are very welcome
Neat machine. Thanks for sharing the video.
Glad you liked it.
I see you have a Woodmizer shingle lapsider hanging from the ceiling. Do you like it and does it produce quality shingles and siding?
I do like it. I got it to make shingles and very please, it takes a little time, but I really enjoy it. I have a customer that was restoring a 150-year-old cabin in the town of Edgewood and wanted to put it back as close to original as possible, I can truthfully say it turned out really nice. I believe there are some pictures on my Google site www.shadyoakssawmill.com.
Those would make some beautiful tables!
Yes they would.
maybe move your camera on the other side of the saw so we can see how you fit the blade. Goood video!
I will do that thanks
You will be very pleased
I purchased some of those blades, haven't tried them yet. Hickory would be a good wood to test them out.
I don't think you will be disappointed.
When are you going to make a new video? Love your content
I hope to get to making some more soon I have been really busy the last few months fixing to retire from my 8 to 5 and spend more time with the mill.
@@shadyoakssawmill7754 Congratulations on retirement. The mill work should be enjoying to you
We don't need the radio thank you from Québec Canada
Radio is for me.😊
Using waterproof glue, you can make full-size cans out of leftover blocks.
Thanks for the information.
you have a nice set up
Thanks for the comments
@shadyoakssawmill7754 your welcome. Great video. Question: Do people buy cedar shakes?
good stuff
Thanks
Do you sell your wood products or use them for your own home?
Yes I do sell them
One old timer to another , turn the volume up
Never get enough music. UA-cam checks all these videos for copyright content, during their review they check to make sure that the song isn't copyright protected.
You should turn down your music
I forget at times that the music is going I tend to tune it out.
That spalted Pecan is beautiful and the spalt looks well distributed on the faces that count. Real nice.
This was one of the first that I have found that was so well uniform
Good work.
Thanks!
i like your setup..inside,,,,,,great job man..love that cedar
Thanks 👍 it has worked out well. Because it's pretty much enclosed I will be adding one set of fans down low to help a little more with the sawdust.
Thank you for posting the video.
Very Welcome hopefully in time my videos will get better, I'm learning all this video stuff
You need a bigger cowboy hat😂
😊
What do you use those cedar cookies for?
That was a customer order for 8 Cedar cookies that are going to be used for table decoration at a wedding. After they are cut I clean the bark off and sand them down, some customers want them natural others want them rubbed with mineral oil I'm guessing that depends on how they are going to be used whether it's for decoration or used as a charcuterie tray.
Any more sawmill videos coming? Enjoyable watching
Yes, soon
