Midsummer moonset starts the day as summer comes to the mountains. At 2000m, above the trees, everything lives out on the slopes. The streams are fed by the melting snows and the frozen lakes are coming back to life.

The fields and forests in the Oisans valley. The early summer in the Oisans is the start of the cycling season but away from the road, the natural cycle of the seasons continues. The simple beauty of the natural world is alive in the flowers and insects. Relax and enjoy a brief moment of meditation.

Winter Dog Walk in the Snow

It's snowing today so we're walking the dogs near the village. The route is the road to Le Boulageard. It's flat, easy and usually very quiet. Apart from the two snowploughs that came past it was very peaceful.

At 29:00, is that a cruising guide open on the instrument panel? What is the name of the publication please? Enjoying the video, thanks!
I can't find the publication at the moment but I do remember that it was supplied by Locaboat, the barge rental company. It might be something that only they publish.
Thank you!
10.00 Insert Indiana Jones snakepit scene. RIP Captain Q.
Wow thisguy has a future as a narrator..cool voice and tempo
Thank you!
Like to know what you paid ?????
Why do I get the impression that if you found a fiver you would moan that wasn’t a tenner! Just saying 😄
No idea, but I would suspect it's because you don't know me. 😊
I’m enjoying my scuba dive through this unknown vessel that no one has even seen.lol hope my oxygen holds out as I make my way back the surface 😵💫😵💫
What a gem ketch! That's exactly what I m looking for on the next life phase 😉
This will be great once you're finished I would remove ALL of that teak deck and glass over, so many future problems avoided by doing so
Thanks for your interest. That's my ultimate plan. However, the teak deck on the aft section of the boat is original, 40 years old and quite worn but, it doesn't leak. I'll re-caulk it and tidy it up a bit for the moment and remove it later. The teak on the cabin top was a replacement for the original and that's where the problems started. The original teak deck was glued and also screwed but the screws were something I have not seen before. They were short and it seems that they were screwed into some special fittings that were inserted into the top layer of fiberglass, never reaching the balsa core. Unfortunately the replacement deck was also glued and screwed but they just used 35mm screws that penetrated all the way through the top layer of fiberglass, the balsa core and the inner layer of fiberglass with the tips sticking through into the cabin. Of course this was completely hidden by the headlining and only became obvious when I removed it all! This resulted in some core rot but mercifully little. Eventually there will be no teak on that deck.
You really have your work cut out for you but you'll have a banger of a vessel when your done.
What an awesome boat!
Thats funny. Today I was wondering, who invented fiberglass for boats. Tonight, UA-cam recommended me your video about your new yacht. And then I saw this video, that is so very well founded and interesting that it could have been a trailer for an audio book. Sure, I will follow your channel. I hope to learn more about your background. Cheers from Hamburg, Uwe
Thanks for the comment. There will be other podcast type posts about the various materials and technology on yachts.
Golly, this is a big Project Boat…Lots of Time & Money to make it Seaworthy☹️
Yes, I try to view it as a several (a lot) of smallish jobs that can be done relatively painlessly. I know, delusional...
This is going to be a massive project although I see great potential - the large scale will be challenging.
How much did ya pay.how old is it.by the looks of it and presuming the sails are old ..how much to make it sea worthy..cheers
Using the special boat language...too much, built 1979, not too much to make it seaworthy but a lot more to make it look nice AND seaworthy.
With the recent sinking of an unsinkable boat, the ability to be trapped in the gut of the boat searching for air is scary. I'll live in the cockpit area. ..lol
Driven hard and put away wet! For Shame on the owner......
Its had several owners and has completed at least one circumnavigation. The whole C0vid thing didn't help as the boat was marooned for 2+ years. We're planning to get her back out in the ocean where she belongs.
@@AncientMarinersSailingwith a little patience and elbow grease I'm sure some day she will turn heads...
Sorry this just poped up in my feed where is this located? The boat has elegant lines and a unusual layout below but the ketch rig sheltered central cockpit and powerful auxilary drive say she would get you through some difficult waters comfortably and safely. The water 💦 shortage prevents a very valuable jet wash ... Its a pity the hull couldn't be jet blasted with sea water just to clear the hull. Intriguing...😎🧙🏻♂️🇬🇧
South of France. Other boats seem to get washed every now and again so I need to discover the secret. At the moment I am making a lot of dust myself, so I'm not too worried.
nice job
That teak deck definitely has to be removed.. the screws are poking through the top.. although it should be saved for a different project on board.. keep uploading videos please
Looks good! So now I'm subscribed to two Ancient Mariner sites. other one the Ancientest Mariner on UA-cam.
Interesting boat. Well you would have been lucky to have a plotter in 1980! Decca wasn’t widely used until later in the 80’s and GPS a way off from that.i have the same engine in my Moody Carbineer 44, great engine.
Decca first used in WW11 and very widely used in the 1970,s. I first used GPS commercially in 1979.
@@richardrichard508Agreed commercially.
She’s a graceful turn ❤ I’ll be following your channel for further updates.
06:37 maybe go with that? great walkthru
What a great looking sailboat. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Thanks for sharing your journey.
great review loved all the technical bits and obviously experienced talk beautiful boat
Beautiful. Where is she berthed?
Good luck to you , safe sailing when you her into the water.
Goodluck.
Thank you!
magnifique reportage merci _
Great video really did enjoy from Australia. We did this 10 years ago and the staircase takes on a whole new meaning when you are going up stream.
Very nice video production. Thank you for the calming canal journey.
You took the dogs. How lovely! 😄❤️
how do you get there?
I like your presentation. No talking. Feels like I am actually doing the tour
une question? C'est gratuit avec le forfait de ski Alpe D'huez. Merçi
Thank you for a very pleasant and relaxing video.
super poudreuse 😍que de souvenirs !!!
We loved this video. We said we would never go south after arriving in Bourgogne in 2004. This summer, we did just that. Auxonne to Castelnaudary. A great trip and this brings back some great memories. Thank you
Well, I have watched this vid probably 5 or 6 times now and every time i watch it I spot something I had missed earlier. You certainly will never have any rodents on your boat or at home with Bobet and his mate around !!!!. Thanks again for the great vid. Max. Australia.
Hello from Canada and thank you for creating and posting this video of your trip from Argens to Lattes. it is the best personally made video that I have seen on UA-cam for a trip like this. By coincidence, my wife and I and another couple are planning the very same trip this coming September. Your video has helped us a lot in planning our trip.
I am happy you liked it and found some value in it.
Be prepared for the filthy conditions on this canal. I cruised in Sept 22 and the combination of lazy lock operators and raw sewage in the canal will make you sick. Some stops are nice (Carcassone), but most are just typical French obnoxious.
Interesting...we didn't find any of that on our trip but we do speak French and understand the culture. However, the water quality is as you describe; I suspect it always has been like that.
I have cruised my own boat in France,Belgium,Netherlands and Germany. I have found that the French professional waterways officials off hand and sometimes rude. Not so in the other countries. The Brittany waterways are polite and considerate, students in my experience. Our boat is Irish Flagged, not British.
What model boat did you have? I don't see it on the Locaboat website.
We hired a Locaboat 1107 out of the same boatyard at Argens back in 1994 for 4 weeks. Cruised as far as you could go west (almost to Bordeaux), then turned around and went east to the Etang. Too windy to cross, boats were blowing up on the rocks. Sad to see all the small new tree plantings which I assume are replacements for all the old trees they had to take down due to disease a while back. I lost a boat shoe in a lock, so I sank the other one in the canal at the entrance to the Argens marina; I guess it is still there. Very nice video. Loved the way you incorporated Google Earth.
Wonderful video! We did a week on the canals in Holland aboard the same style Locaboat earlier this spring and Loved it. The Canal du Midi will be our next trip. About how many locks did you encounter on this route?
Probably the nicest video of travelling along the Canal du Midi I've seen. Well done.
Nice video, we did the same trip last month but the other way around but sadly due to the weather forecast we had to skip Aigues-Mortes to get across the Etang de Thau, I haven’t edited our video yet :-). It is really interesting watching it the other way round too and of course you stopped off at some different places to us.
Great
Love the music you have selected.
