Generative AI: Its Implications and Opportunities, for Policy, Pedagogy and Practice
Guest Speaker: Dr. Michael Grove (University of Birmingham)
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) describes algorithms, including ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot, that can be used to create new content, including text, computer code, images, and audio. Whilst the technologies are themselves not new, recent advances in the field have led to a new era where the way in which we approach content creation is fundamentally changing at a rapid pace.
Generative AI tools are becoming accessible to a much wider audience and so have the potential to impact our teaching, learning, assessment, and support practices in increasing ways. These technologies offer the potential to support academic staff in the creation and assessment of course material, and new opportunities to engage students in problem solving, critical thinking, analysis, and communication. But to use these technologies effectively, academic staff need to understand how generative AI tools work within the context of their disciplines and higher education more widely, and students need to be provided with clear information on our expectations for disclosing where such AI technologies have been used within their work. It is also important that students understand the role of generative AI in the development of their graduate attributes, since the ability to use these tools in an effective and ethical manner is likely to be a skill increasingly required and expected by employers.
Within this talk I will consider the implications and opportunities for higher education institutions associated with the rapid rise in generative AI technologies. I will focus upon my own experience of using these tools within the mathematical sciences, including with learners, but I will also discuss the pedagogic and policy level implications for higher education institutions drawing upon work undertaken at the University of Birmingham.

Teaching Assistants (TA) play a significant role in students' learning. They are often expected to teach in face-to-face classrooms, facilitate discussions, conduct tutorials and labs in-person and/or online, grade electronically submitted papers, and perform many other duties to assist instructors and inspire students. As instructors, we need to provide support and guidance so that TAs can per...

This is a 9 year old video bro, ain't no way he pinnin' you
Thanks so much for sharing 😊
This video is really helpful. Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏
Thanks, Lucas! What a great session this was!
Hello! Thank you for the great information. I´d like to know if some day the smart import will be available as an open source software?
Dr Claudia Krebs is a wonderful educator! I admire her passion for teaching others and creating accessible learning materials :)
Your videos on being grateful.I respect your work but did you know that your videos have a lot of value that if you can convey to a global audience, your business will massive grow exponentially and your dignity will increase as much as they benefit you.But problem was your video isn't rank on google thats why day by day you upload videos but no viewers reach them. How many customers are you constantly losing by not doing that. Thanks
The sheer brain rot of university staff members: - being obsessed about land acknowledgement, cultural appropriation, and equity towards artists... while happily and non-ironically reporting that they used plug-ins to bypass UA-cam videos as to extract the value without giving back (the view time). Clearly, education is going downhill.
There was no tone in speaking. It’s very similar to the situation at a driver’s license test center where after receiving hundreds of people a day, you finally get off work and hear your supervisor asking you to work an extra ten minutes.
music's pretty good

Thank you very much for your videos, Dr. Krebs. It helps me a lot in my learning of biology.
The Nazis took control of the schools to make sure that only Nazi propaganda was taught to the young French Children. Today, in America, a foreign ideology has complete control of education, or what is left of it, from kindergarten through university. They have left in their wake a human catastrophe of lost potential and societal destruction. Young people who endure even 12 years of stultifying politically correct propaganda are handicapped for life by the decisions of the new occupying ideology that now runs American education. Many people say that American education is a failure since it ranks near the bottom of the industrialized world, but my view is that it is a spectacular success. The schools in America are doing and doing well the job they are intended to do: to turn out more grist for the mill that is the godless, atheistic new world ideology that has won the war for the soul of America. The enemy responds by saying that all the problems that it has created are easily explained by systemic racism. The way that works is to attempt to convince normal that they carry some type of original racism sin in their DNA. Since normal people are systemically racist without knowing it, the system must be gamed to counter that unknown gene. The result of it all is a hostile, divided nation that can accomplish nothing except to march along to the drumbeat of the new pied piper taking us nearer the falls each day.
great job 🔥
I have used this twice now it is horrible. It assumes a basic level of GAF with your fellow university life-travelers - guess what - it is not there - it takes valuable time that should belong to me and squanders it on the 50%+ of the class that does absolutely nothing. I want feedback from people that know what they are talking about - you know - the folks actually getting paid to teach - the Profs
Thanks Gregor :)

first place I've ever heard credit for creation
soft voice. loud "music" to make up for it, I guess. wearing headset with volume set to max - can barely hear the voice. good thing it is fairly short.
