    One quick question. When you finish site consultantions and develop a management plan, who does the actual work of restoration if not done by the land owner. ? Are there companies that do these management services professionally ?

    Twice a year is not enough mowing to keep thistle from spreading. You can't pull thistle and kill it either as any remaining roots will resprout ... I have clover plots and hay fields , corn fields etc. Thistle is a huge problem and the best way to kill is with chemicals..

    I only have a brush mover or my cub cadet 50” mower as choices. I already see young pigweed(I’m in Minnesota) in the 1/2acre plot I planted about a month ago. Will setting my Cub Cadet at the highest (4”) mark and keeping it mowed all summer and fall allow the clover and chicory to crowd out the other weeds or will the lack of weeds getting to seed stage work out well for me?

    Thanks for sharing. I just planted clover grass seed in my backyard instead of the traditional Kentucky lawn. What herbicide can I buy to use to kill weeds in my newly planted Clover lawn?

      I'm researching as well. 24d so far I think will work for broadleaf weeds. It might slow clover down a bit but it should recover. Haven't found anything for grassy weeds, so I think I'll spot spray them as needed and replant clover in those few areas as needed. Doing a similar thing out back for about 2 acres to go with my Bermuda out there. Need the clover for green ground cover and hopefully the Bermuda will spread more over time.

    What do you do when you clearcut like this, but all that comes in is a carpet of Japanese Stiltgrass? Killing it with glyphosate, it just comes back from the seeds, and it smothers all other regeneration except stump sprouts.

    That's awesome! You mentioned selling them? I'm in southeast Iowa. Do you have a buyer I could contact? I'm sheared 24 acres and waiting for a mulcher to come and mulch the remaining 20 acres. I have a few slick back cedars that could be logged. My forester and others suggest I just remove the cedars and instead of marketing them. I burned 6 acres this spring and there's not much left except cedar logs! Good early successional starting to pop up! The 24 acres I sheared I'm planning to burn this year waiting for contractor to come in and put in damn good firebreaks. I've put in quite a few in my normal timber but this 24 acres is a matchbox and want a permanent firebreak I can maintain every year. Love the stuff you guys put out keep up the good work!!

    Do you have any videos on what happened over the past few years? You are probably due for another burn soon. Esp to knock back the invasive vines. It is weird being in a class (hardwood management) where we are learning about oak regeneration and you are talking about killing your precious oak regen. That is what we need more than ever

    Im gonna do this on an 1/4 acre with a weed eater and backpack sprayer, i was wondering of y'all limed it ( soil test) and I was also wondering if spraying early in spring and planting buckweat for a few months then laying it down and spraying it would help with weeds and nutrients and give does and fawns some diversity in summer, my land is more narly than yours, i have alot of thick stalk weeds and briars, briars are more in patches tho, its so thick the bucks push does in here in the rut to corner them, i just want a kill plot close to stand cause they never really use the land the same all the time

    SPOT ON BROTHER! Been saying this for years. I remember being a kid back in the 70's-80's and going fishing at the local creek. In the quarter mile walk to the creek you could catch enough crickets or hoppers to fish all day. I can't tell you the last time I saw two grasshoppers in the same day.

    I mow my clover plot once a month in the summer.. It doesn't stop the weeds, i have used Arrest Max and that doesnt kill the weeds. I have resorted to picking / pulling weed roots ... I havent spot treated with glyphosate yet but its a great idea. Its November 29th in the Northeast and the deer are still in my clover..

    • @Landandlegacytube

      It depends on your definition of what the techniques are. The regenerative food plots are leading to lots of weeds resulting in very low quality food plots therefore less hunting success. Using multiple planting seasons with diversity mixed throughout the year you can have great plots of help with basic soil health principles. The idea that it requires less inputs and increases the desire of the plants is proving to be not completely true

    • @CentralMississippiWhitetail
      @CentralMississippiWhitetail Рік тому

      @@Landandlegacytube I’ve been doing this for 20 years while trying to improve. Food plotting means diverse techniques. I understand all the fades and crazes. A key is balanced soil down to the micros. Then Crop on crop building organic matter for rain retention. Here’s a solid example if you want corn, cheap then follow crimson clover. Probably wont need much fertilizer and get great weed suppression. Grow food on the flat ground cover in bottomlands and hillsides. Invest and learn best practices on electric fences. It’s so easy if a person buys the correct material once.

    • @Landandlegacytube
      @Landandlegacytube Рік тому

      @@CentralMississippiWhitetail we’re in agreement with almost all. Regen plotting has adopted the no herbicide approach and it’s causing some major issues for guys since it’s blends on blends without any weed control.

      @@Landandlegacytube Drill grains/legumes in the fall, come back in the spring, drill grains/legumes. In the pleasant months and hack/spray, burn. Place food next to cover and let it be deer most of the time. We all agree this is the way. Go watch Rusty on Farm and Ranch life. great channel
