    Is not sad there is no sewing or cooking classes in schools in California ? I can not imagine my life without the ability to sew. It has come in handy for the last 50 years .

      That is unfortunate! Hopefully parents and grandparents are teaching their children these skills. I was blessed to have sewing classes in my Missouri public high school education.

      Gel nails and other nail finishes are stronger than you might think. Natural nails, yes. You learn how to move in order to minimize risk of damage.

    I had a similar experience working for a big box menswear company's alteration hub. Had no experience but they gave me (immature skater/pizza maker) a shot, I just did pant alterations lol but still. I was sad when that hub closed. I think they hired me cause I was such an unusual person applying for that place lol.

      Skipped stitches could be from incorrect threading of the machine, wrong needle size, wrong thread type for the fabric…. If you can’t figure it out, take it to a local machine mechanic and they should be able to help you.

    So you recommend a walking foot for satin?

    • @jenntydesigns662
      @jenntydesigns662 2 роки тому

      A walking foot is recommended for medium to heavy weight fabrics. So as long as it is a sturdy satin, I would at least give it a try! I’m always switching out my presser feet just to see what works.

    I had industrial machines for deczdes, till I moved across the ocean. Domestics seem like toys or cheap copies of the real thing. You can chomp through bulky denim cross seams all day and not get nervous about stalling, nesting or irregular stitches. Guys, if you have the space and you sew regularly, get an industrial . Even a treadle machine is something to consider before buying the plastic trash theyre producing today. Get a real machine for sewing , theres more joy in the using of them.

    • @jenntydesigns662
      @jenntydesigns662 2 роки тому

      Definitely. I remember the first plastic singer sewing machine I had when I was a teen. After a few months a huge piece of metal just fell out of it lol. I had to get it serviced to fix the tension about twice a year but soon just gave up cause it wasn’t worth the service fees. There are new basic industrial machines for $800 to $1000 and most people today will drop that much no problem on an iPhone or 🍎 computer. It’s on my wish list.

    There are some good suggestions in the comments, also you didn’t mention adjusting the pressure of the pressor foot, which will made a difference. My favorite, always successful hunt, has been mentioned, that’s to flip the fabric in the palm of the right hand and rotate the bottom to the top. I don’t like to tug or stretch the fabric, it gives a wrinkled result.
