I lost my embouchure on the blowpipe partway through! This tells me that I must be blowing more than I am using my arm for bag control! 🤪 Next practice will focus on bag pressure control! Thank you so much for sharing Melissa! Excellent teacher i look forward to learning from! Happirst New Year wishes to you! All the best!
Thanks. I am glad these recordings are helpful.
@melissabautz2346 indeed! Thanks so much once again! Great to hear from you!
I like the tune. Where can I find the sheet music?
Why is everyone ignoring the Scots Guards Standard Settings of Pipe Music. Wherever you are on this planet ( except for Scotland) you get 10,000 different ways of how this tune played. Bit annoying, actually. …D-Throw in the second bar and a F-Doubling in the third bar..
Could be a simplified version just working on those embellishments
I'm trying to learn how to play this song but my fingers are short and fat
No problem. Just make sure you have your fingers in a position where you are covering all the holes with the correct fingers. Your hand’s position doesn’t have to look like mine! 😊
Very nice 👌
im learning to play this song im a beginner piper
Love your videos .I’m on week 5 of the chanter 👍🏻🍻
@@room1271 That’s excellent! Keep up the good work. 😊
Your neighbors want you dead
You're awesome. Sounds great!
Loved it. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. I’m also doing a Christmas fundraising event and hope to play carols. Well did! Peter
Can you do it with a gracenote?
@@LoganLloyd-sn4gf Hello. I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you seeking a D-throw scale with a gracenote preceding the D-throw? Or are you seeking a D-Doubling scale? Or maybe a D-gracenote scale?
It sounds amazing! :D keep on goin’ girlie!
❤
Nice job

Let's goo!
Sounding great, Melissa!
Woohoo.
good luck!
GREAT VIDEO 😁
Hey there! I have been using your Cork Hill recording for the last few months to get my speed and timing down. I was surprised to see your rotator cuff videos. I had the surgery on Oct 5. On the practice chanter now, but not the pipes yet. I may have to try the switch you have made. Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow, what a coincidence about us both getting rotator cuff surgery. My left arm will be unable to play pipes for a long time I suspect; which is why I switched sides. Anyway, I am glad the Cork Hill videos have been helpful. Best of luck to you with your RC repair surgery recovery!
Well there’s not much wrong with this. Well did!
Great work! I find it so hard and dyslexic to play pipes on my right side. I hope you’re recovering well
Sounding great and it's only Day 3!
Sounds good! Starting to get the steadier pressures back. Another week and you should be about ready for the grade 3 drone comp! 😂
@@DavidMacfarlane-h9l 😂 Thanks Dave!
Very good plying mdm
You’re.certainly determined and you are proceeding in a methodical manner. I guess you feel the damage is permanent otherwise why not just take off a couple of months from playing the pipes to heal? On a humorous side, watch out for comparisons to the (in)famous Rufus Harley, who played his pipes on the wrong side, although without switching the drone positions! Wishing you a quick recovery!
@@ShamusinBemidji yeah, the doctor said it could take up to a year to ready for pipes again. Funny about Rufus though.
Cool. Looking forward to the chanter (will you swap hands?)
@@petermccarthy4525 I won’t be swapping hands. I plan to add the chanter on Tuesday evening (Nov 5th).
Bless you. I know the feeling having a crash and shattering my clavicle, all ribs on the left and breaking my shoulder blade (could only play tin whistle). The drones sound good. You’ll get this
@@petermccarthy4525 Thank you, Peter. And wow regarding your injuries!!!
Sorry for your misfortune. Have you considered a blair digital chanter? You could attach it to your normal bag to at least practice finger work.
@@pugbob5315 Oh thanks. Fortunately I can still play my practice chanter just fine. So that’s not a problem.
@melissabautz2346 I hadn't thought of that. 😅 Good luck, I look forward to your new content.
I so wish you weren't going through this. I know, however, that you will learn how to play well on the right side!
You are more stable under your right arm than I am under my left!!! You got this!!
Woah what instrument is that I’ve never seen it? It kinda looks like the thing that stems off of a bagpipe
@@lowercase9964 It is a bagpipe practice chanter. It is the instrument on which bagpipers learn their tunes before playing them on the Great Highland Bagpipe.
@@melissabautz2346 oooo it sounds very cool
It‘s a so called „practise chanter“. You need it to exercise the tunes, before playing them on pipes.
Fantastic . Many thanks
@@l.terronesfineart5937 You are welcome. I am glad this video is helpful.
@@melissabautz2346 thank you so much. I am learning to play the bagpipes and specifically Highland Cathedral. Your videos are very useful to see how to solve and learn parts of a tune. I have no knowledge of music theory and they clarify many things for me, especially with lis embellesment. Best wishes
Why do people shout out during the playing of this tune? Is it because it was usually a return to barracks?
@@ronkennedy213 I don’t know the answer. I should! 😂 Truthfully, I need to look up why!
@@melissabautz2346 thank you for the quick reply. I shall ask my piping instructor, perhaps he will know, he was a warrant officer in the Canadian Army.
@@melissabautz2346 by the way your videos are very helpful to me and some others in my class,I confess, I am the slow child in the class, just taking up musical instruction after retirement and selecting the bagpipes. I will survive (Donna Summer reference)
@@ronkennedy213Aha…”I will survive”. I can hear the song in my head! 😂I am super glad the zvideos are helpful. Keep on piping.

Melissa can you please do a lesson on Sleep Dreary Sleep.
This is really helpful. The book has some surprisingly tricky tunes. I’m hoping to pop up to Glasgow to take the exam next year; without videos like this it would be very difficult. Many thanks for posting Peter
Where can I get the sheet music that you use?
what chanter and reed do you play?I love it and would like to buy one too.
