How to Make an Embroidered Iron On Patch. From Digitizing, to Sewing it Out.
Satin borders will sometimes make the edges hollow to the feel. Get you some Faux Merrow borders either software generated, premade from etsy, or manually done with a merrow machine.
Yeah my next big purchase will be a morrow machine🤩
Great patch material comparison.
Amazing work!
That was the perfect video, thank you for your simple explanation and clear video. I have watch several patch making videos and yours is by far the best. I especially appreciated your no waffle approach. Thank you. 🙏🏻
I did not catch the name of the patch twill that you are using and can only find the poly twill with adhesive back online. Could you please repeat the name and perhaps a link? Thank you so much for the video, looks like I just might be able to do what I am wanting to do once I get the materials.
I use this twill from Coleman and Company: colmanandcompany.com/Twill_Material.html This twill that I use does have an adhesive backing on it, which provides stability and makes for a good backing when making patches
I love your simple yet precise process. I feel more confident to make patches. Explaining the materials is a big part of this process. Like that you float the fabric, I too think it's a waste to use more. Q: Why did you choose tear away instead of cut away.?
Cut away really only needs to be used on non-woven materials, like shirts and sweaters. Since the patch is very sturdy, tear away is fine and the stitches will remain in tact once the stabilizer is removed
Is there a reason why folks don't do a rough, quick cut around the patch before doing the iron on adhesive and then the closer more exact cut after? The two videos I have watched from others also have them cutting carefully around the patch before and after adhesive. Just curious as I have not tried this before.
When I'm making a bunch of patches at once I actually prefer to apply the iron on backing to the patches before I cut them, then do the exact cut after. I should have mentioned that in this video but forgot since I was just making one patch. Good call out!
The actual tutorial is helpful but you should actually understand the controversy around ai before you promote it. You completely misrepresented the problems people have with it and the tip you gave to make sure it wasnt copied doesnt take care of the actual problem. AI pulls data from copywrited works from large and small artists to train the algorithm. No part of mid journey is trained without using the artwork of real artists who put hours of time and experience into their artwork. It steals the art from real people and grinds it up in an algorithm to make a collage of theft. Thats the real problem people have with AI image generation. And its certainly not art. The definition of art is the expression or application of HUMAN creative skill and imagination. Its image generation ising art theft. Not real art
Super nice video, thanks for the detailed showcasing. It really helped a lot with decision making!
What machine are you using?
In this video it's a Brother Innovis 1400e, but now I have a Happy Japan HCD3E-X
What is your sewing machine
When I made this video I was using a single needle Brother Innovis 1400 , but now I use a multi needle Happy Japan
I just started embroidering and this was so helpful! I am in need of a general crash course on hatch embroidery. Haha.
THANK YOU! I NEEDED THIS
Stunning flower and a wealth of more information. I did take balboa digitizing classes, but she is so drawn out, and I fall asleep learning from her.
Yes she is very knowledgeable in her lessons, but I agree her videos are so long. I don't have enough time in the day to sit through a whole video😅
Great video, thank you!!!
I have watched this entire video several times. Thank you very much for the walkthrough.
Glad you found it helpful!
IS there anywhere I can buy twill fabric or duck canvas in europe?
Sorry, I am based in the US and not familiar with where to buy fabric in Eurpope
I've been impressed with your embroidery art these past few days. Please continue your embroidery activities. from KOREA
Beautiful!
Supplies at Joann’s/michaels are usually much higher in price vs. finding the manufacturer online - really appreciate your embroidery content 🧵
Yes agree! But if it's my first time buying fabric I've never used before I like to buy it at Joann's so I can touch and feel it in person and test it at home on a small project, , then if I like it I will look online for a cheaper option
Ohhh... I was going to say that you definitely took Lee's class. She is amazing. I have every class from her. Amazing amazing
Yes she is amazing! I have only learned a fraction of what she teaches, but I always recommend people to take her classes, she is a treasure trove of knowledge when it comes to embroidery🤗
@@lashleycreations , isn't she. I took 3 days class with her in Palm Springs. What an amazing sweet lady she is.
Your videos and designs are amazing! Thank you for being willing to share and keep up the good work.
Thank you! 😊
Looks really nice. What digitizing software are you using?
Hatch embroidery
How do I transfer the patch to a shirt or some form of clothes
If you doing the embroidery in this method then you iron it on
How I do mine, I use heat bond patches did I create in Canva and I do my patches and sublimation I don’t have machine, but this is how I do mine but good luck to you
I've been using denim from.worn out jeans. Many parts of the jeans still have good fabric. I have to cover the edges completely otherwise fraying shows.
Oh I've never thought of using old jeans, but yeah denim is a nice strudy material to use
I’ve found that denim tends to stretch a little too much for good embroidery when I’ve used it. I’ve tried the older denim without the spandex and the newer denim , neither one came out as well as different fabrics. I have tried to use a spray starch to keep it from stretching but it seems to get sticky on the needle. Any suggestions, as I have lots of denim and it’s good to recycle. Also often free when using old jeans!
Have you tried iron on interfacing? ItI often use one with a bit of fleece to give the patch more body and dimension.
I have embroidered regular denim (not the spandex denim) and it didn’t stretch when I used the Pellon SF101 fusible interfacing. 😊
Wow! Absolutely loved it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this thorough video. I struggled finding the right fabric backing and have been using felt with great results so far. I am going to try duck canvas next I think.
Glad it was helpful! There's so many fabric options out these it can be overwhelming
Which Digitizing software are you using
Hatch Embrodiery
Thank you for your videos!! I use InkStitch because it's free, haha, but the way you explain your theories and thought process helped me translate it well enough to a different software. I'm trying to learn to make realistic patches of pets. Love your designs, please keep up the great tutorials!
Oh thank you, and glad you found it helpful!
Are your stitch settings in inches or mm on hatch
I always use mm for the stitch settings
WOW! Thank you soOoo much!!!
Looks great!! Gotta make a few now! New at this... :)
This is awesome! Have you tested Design doodler? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
I have not tried Design Doodler, or any other digitizing software to be honest. Hatch is just so great and fits all my needs😅 but I see lots of people talking about Design Doodler so I may just need to try it out!
❤
Wow this was such a great video. Thank you so much!!
Great video! What type of sewing machine are you using? I'm in the market for one that will do this.
When I made this video I was using a Brother NQ1400e, but now I have a multi needle, Happy Japaj HCD3E-X
Thank you!
What embroidery digitizer do you use? ❤ Thank you so much for the video!
I use Hatch embroidery software to make all my own designs
I just discovered your channel and wanted to say, thank you for the content ❤
Thank you I'm so glad you like it! Just trying to share my knowledge with other embroidery enthusiasts:)
Why do you use patch twill and the iron backing? Does the patch twill not come with the adhesive back already? That part confused me.
Wonderful ideas!
Excellent video, friend!!! Thanks for sharing!
i wanna try water soluble stabilisers but im not sure all of them are plastic free, im creating an eco based business so i would need to know first 😭
I absolutely LOVE this technique and style!!! It’s gotten me really interested in incorporating appliqué into all my larger designs. I do have a question and hope you can help me. At 4:08 on this video you said your machine stops, did you add a manual stop and if so how? I’m trying to figure out how you did this without having to auto appliqué. Thank you so much in advance, and thank you so much for all of your videos! Love them all! They are inspiring, helpful and super informative. Great job and kudos to you! 😊
Yes I love how much of a time saver applique is and it just looks so great! So for the stops, I digitize the stops as a different color so it shows on the machine a seperate section. On my multi needle there is an option to stop the machine before it switches to the next color so I can add the fabric. On a single need the machine stops anyways after each color, so it's just a mental reminder of when uou need to add the fabric. Glad you found this video helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to shade a flower design that I digitized and nothing was looking good or right. I tried to do what you suggested after watching the video and now I need to see if it's going to look ok when I stitch it out. One question, did you do the petals of the flower separately or as one big flower?
Thank you for the comparison video. Be careful trying to burn natural fibers such as cotton and wool. They will catch on fire!
Natural fibers smell like burning hair when burnt, so they're not pleasant for this application
Wow, I used only Rayon on my first little 4” x 4” machine but switched to PolyNeon when I got the 10 needle. Now with this comparison I think the Rayon is richer and for metallic colors, the metallic is much nicer. Thank you for doing this comparison!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful :)
How does the felt (both) hold up on washable garments?
Very clear instructions thanks for sharing your knowledge : )
You are welcome and glad it was helpful for you!
Top class video ... Really appreciate the time you took to make this video. Waiting for more videos
Thanks! More digitizing videos coming so stay tuned!
