Jiggy Gs Flash Fry Fishing Fly
Mr Daniel is one of the OGs in the competition world. He has since focused more of his time on teaching and passing along his knowledge the the next generation. His flies are simple, quick to tie, and they hook loads of fish. Jigged streamers -- if you haven't tried them -- are deadly. By either adding a bit of movement during the dirft (tap your rod with your forefinger) or by just letting your rig swing out, this simple fly of chickabou will entice fish that might look past a big streamer but are looking for a meal bigger than a size 22 equivalent..

Tying an Articulated Sparkle Minnow Streamer Fishing Fly
Переглядів 16321 день тому
The Sparkle Minnow (single hook) and the Articulated Sparkle Minnow (two hooks) is a favorite among guides in Colorado and Wyoming. The fly has few materials and could easily be named the Ice Minnow given that 90% of the fly is made with Ice Dubbing. The key to this fly is mastering the dubbing loop used for the body and underbelly. There are three methods that can be used to make the dubbing l...
Tying a Foam Spinner Trico Fishing Fly

Tying a Vis A Dun Trico Fishing Fly
Переглядів 16121 день тому
The Trico hatch is usually so dense that we can't help but think it should be easy. Our experience is that fishing Tricos is far from consistently "easy," but there are few things we try to do consistently to improve our odds. While the spinners are typically the most important part of the Trico hatch, fishing the early part of the hatch can be productive. A small Trico emerger or nymph trailed...
Tying an Amy's Ant Fishing Fly
Переглядів 197Місяць тому
A classic western fly from a true giant in the fly-fishing world. Jack Dennis created this fly to compete in a one-fly competition. Named after his daughter, this fly was a combination of the Chernobyl Ant and Jack’s Amy’s Special (a stonefly imitation). The underwing is traditionally tied with rainbow krystal flash. We like a pearl Diamond Wing material, which is like angel hair. The original ...
Tying a Hi Viz Foam Beetle Fishing Fly
Переглядів 247Місяць тому
It is often said that if a Hopper won’t entice fish, a Beetle is needed. Even the pickiest fish know what a beetle is. From tailwaters to freestones, fish are eager to takes beetles. Especially late summer and early fall (like, before the heater kicks on for the first time). Most beetles are relatively simple to tie, and most look similar. Here’s a version that incorporates many components….leg...
Tying a Chernobyl Wog Fishing Fly
Переглядів 994Місяць тому
Polliwogs - also known as Wogs - are an exciting way to entice large, powerful salmon that are fresh from the ocean. While opinions vary around why these flies work, the important part is that they work. At times, very well. It is exciting fishing when it happens, so being prepared is critical. There are numerous styles of wogs, ranging from spun deer hair to cork. Here is a foam version that i...
Tying a Hareball Leech Fishing Fly
Переглядів 192Місяць тому
A classic staple for Steelhead and Salmon. This is a simple pattern that uses two materials. The design is all about the way rabbit hair moves in the water. We like Chartreuse and Pink, but dark colors are also productive. If you’re headed north, be sure to have plenty of these at the ready. • Hook: Gamakatsu SL11-3H 3x Strong, size 2. www.discountflies.com/product/M-GAMASL113HMD.html • Eyes: R...

Tying a Rusty Spinner Fishing Fly
Переглядів 491Місяць тому
Two challenges are often cited when it comes to fishing and tying spinners. First, spinners are difficult to see on the water. Second, spinner bodies are quite slim. This pattern attempts to address both of those challenges. To improve visibility, palmer 2-3 turns of hackle through the thorax and then trim the bottom hackle flush with the thorax. This also works well for tricos. To create a sli...
Tying the GFA (Micro) Hopper Fishing Fly
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
Later in the season fish can be just as willing to take a hopper as they are in July or August, but a smaller fly just might turn more heads. This pattern is simple to tie; more importantly, it looks great down to a size 16 or 18. Tying a Stubby Chubby Yellow Sally Fishing Fly
Переглядів 341Місяць тому
The evolution of the Chernobyl started with the addition of poly wings (the Chubby Chernobyl), then continued with increasing the size, adding more foam (the Double Chubby), and now going smaller. The Stubby Chubby is fun to fish. It is great trailed behind a bigger Chernobyl. Or, it can be tied to imitate smaller insects. The Yellow Sally is an example. The Stubby is still buoyant enough to su...

This is one of the OG carp flies from Mr Kolanda that was on the leading edge of what is now the ongoing movement to design purpose-built flies for carp. Tying an Extended Foam Body Green Drake Fishing Fly
Переглядів 2482 місяці тому
Green Drakes are big. Fortunately for us, trout key on them heavily during the summer. This makes for some fun fishing, typically in the evenings at dusk. The natural mayflies are large, graceful insects and the flies that imitate these bugs do not disappoint. This Furmisky inspired dry is one of our favorite flies for this hatch because it floats well, it can support a modest dropper, and it i...
Tying a Jiggy Soft Hackle CDC Green Drake Nymph Fishing Fly
Переглядів 8642 місяці тому
The Green Drake Hatch where we live is a hatch that is marked on many calendars. While fish regularly take big duns, an emerger like a soft hackle fished as a dropper an hour or so before the main event is a good idea. It is also a good idea to fish this through the hatch, especially later in the season. Let it swing out on occasionally at the bottom of your drift… • Hook: Jig Hook, sizes 10-14...

nice!
Great video! How do you like your HMH vice! It looks pretty cool!!!!
It is a fantastic vise!
@@discountfliesflyshop1898 Did you tie previously on a Renzetti vice? I have two HMH vices but tie on a Renzetti Presentation. I’m always looking for something new!
We like the HMH Law vise a lot! But, we have a thing for vises so not sure we can objectively pick a favorite.
Very nice!
TY! Fun to tie!
Thank you for sharing. I've yet to tie a dragonfly pattern, but plan to soon.
Wow nice one.
Thanks you!
Very groovy. ✌🎶🎣
Thanks ✌️
Nice bug thanks
Nice one thanks
Bro that looks sick!!!
Such a great fly! Stalcup says that it doesn't matter how (dead drift, swing, sinking line, dropper) or where (river, stream, lake, alpine pond), this was his most productive.
Jeez....I've been tying this fly for 2 years, and just watching you I realized that I'm doing it very slow! Never thought of putting the wire in a bobbin...
The only trouble we have with the bobbin is if we start with too much wire out of the tip. This causes a lot of turn on the wire at the tip and it can break (just like helicoptering it off when tying other patterns). So, we keep the wire moving through the bobbin.
@discountfliesflyshop1898 excellent tip! Thanks. Do you have a bobbin type and brand you recommend? I have a couple of old steel bobbins that cut thread. Would those work?
Yes, this is exactly what I use.
Siu
What glue do you to glue the two pieces of foam together?
We like Loctite spray adhesive (www.loctiteproducts.com/en/products/specialty-products/spray-adhesive.html), but think any spray adhesive would work. We let it sit with something heavy on top of it overnight.
Nice one
Thank you!
I like the synthetic peacock herl. Makes a neat body and easy to use. Thanks for showcasing it!
Glad you like it!
I’d just use fine cut ice dub. Much easier. Polish quill cdc is garbage cdc too. 😂
That's interesting...we would guess most folks would find wrapping chenille much easier and quicker than dubbing a noodle of ice dub. Thanks for sharing. Btw, what is your favorite CDC? We've used many and are always looking for high quality stuff.
That is pretty sweet
Andy will say it’s not the same for sure!! Oh and he will throw a fit about the bead, he hates the dredging!!! Lol
Haha -- no one can make it the same! I believe Mr Chung also believes that most (all?) RS2s aren't the same, or even close! Maybe that is actually the brilliance of these designs by great fly designers....even poor imitations are wildly productive!
Nice
Really like this!
TY!
Hey, I just caught this, nice work and thank you for the kind words! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! Hope 2024 is a year of health, happiness, and adventure for you and yours.
Look , he tied a clouser minnow , that's really special !
Lighter trick works great
Yeah, we like it.
I love this fly! I fished various colors and materials on a size 18-20 last winter. It, along with a sowbug of some kind, were my best producers... but an honorable mention needs to go to the jig style rainbow warriors! (Black dubbing worked best)
Black dubbing sounds interesting...like it.
Love it. Going to spin up a few and see how they do. Maybe in different colors
We've had success with Olive...
that looks great. thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Really cool fly. Couldn't help but think (jokingly), "What should we put on this fly?" "Yes." LOL
Ha! Yes, I'm sure a fly with the eyes, tail, and body would catch plenty! We should a test...always up for field testing!
Nicely tied pattern. Beautifully done! 🧐🌲👍
Thank you!
Please put up a material list !!,

Updated in the description! Great fly and fun to tie.
@@discountfliesflyshop1898 Awesome! Thank you!
Great video! Have a question if you don't mind, what would be a good substitute for the Hare's Mask?
For a natural substitute, squirrel or rabbit dubbing (www.discountflies.com/product/M-CCRABB.html) in natural gray would both work well. For a synthetic substitute, the following would work: Raven and Wolf EBT Dubbing in Hare's Ear or Dark Hare's ear: www.discountflies.com/product/M-RWEBT.html. SemperFli Sparkle Dub in Gray: www.discountflies.com/product/M-SSDUB.html Arizona Synthetic Dubbing in Hare's Ear.
Love the Spanish music with the Perdigon. Nice tie!

Love that one!!! Great job on the legs!!

Thank you very much!
Muy buena !! and music ??
Gracias. Thelonious Monk
@@discountfliesflyshop1898 ... Thank you very much !!
Nice! I like to tie my Clousers sparse as well - better for fishing them as skulpin or darter imitations right on the bottom. Add a some copper wire for weight, a bit of mottling with a sharpie and this tie would look and fish like a Johnny Darter.
I haven't tried a sharpie on the Faux Bucktail -- great idea. I'll see if it works! Thx for the rec.
@@discountfliesflyshop1898 Please let me know how the sharpie works on the faux bucktail. It works fine on natural bucktail if you wipe the area with alcohol first as some bucktail (especially undyed ones) can be a bit oily.

That's gotta have great movement!
That looks disgustingly good 👍🏻
I'd eat it...
I'm always looking for a new way to use tubing and I'm impressed with this fly so I'm going to tie some for myself 👍🏻
We've had great success with the France Fly and the 2.0. On another note, if you don't already have it, Phil Camera's book "Fly Tying With Synthetics: Patterns & Techniques" has great patterns that using tubing (www.amazon.com/Fly-Tying-Synthetics-Patterns-Techniques/dp/0896581748). Phil was the founder of the original Larva Lace! We caught a lot of fish on his fly called the "Heaten."
@DiscountFlies Fly Shop I don't have his book ,I'll find it. I'm 56 and have been fly fishing from 12, I started tying in my mid 20s and there's nothing like catching fish on the fly you tied. I had a stroke a few months ago and I have tied 1 fly but I'm going to try a few this weekend. Good luck out there.
Do you know of Andrew Grillos? He's the creator of the Hippie Stomper, '64 Impala, and numerous other flies. He's a genius with foam. He had a stroke several years ago. Part of his recovery was tying flies. He put a lot of it out there on Instagram...everything from the frustrations to the wins. I can't image. I have a lot of respect for that vulnerability and can't imagine what it is like to go through something like that. We will be sending lots of positive thoughts your way for a speedy recovery.
@DiscountFlies Fly Shop no I haven't heard of him but I'm sure I can find him too
