VLOG: 2022 Yamaha Zuma 125 // 50-mile scoot commute
I'm taking Neil's Yamaha Zuma 125 for another extended commute today to form more educated opinions about it. I plan to spend more time with the Zuma to see how it stacks up against other scooters in my stable. This is a long, uncut commute, so skip around with the chapter markers below.

0:00 It's HOT and HUMID again, so I'm riding sans jacket today
3:45 Tires were very low on the Zuma so I topped them up to 30 PSI front and rear
7:10 The Zuma has very ROUGH front suspension, getting used to the seating position
8:59 Can the Zuma 125 do the Scooter Cannonball?
13:22 Under seat storage is very good on the Zuma compared to my other scoots
14:44 My Yamaha C3 won't fire up, probably bad fuel again
20:41 The Zuma needs better tires and maybe a suspension upgrade for Cannonball duty
23:14 Freedom (not Liberty) scooters, alternate brands for the Cannonball?
30:17 Pending garage projects
34:10 Searching for breakfast
45:45 Fry Rd has changed SO much in the last 10 years
49:45 I found a Whataburger!
53:53 Stopping to check out some new warehouses?
57:27 Backroad ride through old ranch lands, lack of zoning restrictions in Texas?
1:08:00 Am I lost?
1:13:07 Resuming for the return commute, no check today 😒
1:22:38 Livestream this weekend?
1:26:26 I rode through a tornado here a few years ago
1:29:35 Crazy speeding cagers, hurry up and wait
1:39:19 What happened to Golden Corral and the all-you-can-eat buffets?
1:44:30 Right hHand tingling and numbness on the Zuma
1:49:49 Overheated and out of power, it's frozen custard time!

We're still receiving parting gifts from Hurricane Beryl. Our power failed on Monday evening, so we're hopping on one leg and sweating our butts off in Houston's brutal summer heat. I called Centerpoint to troubleshoot the delivery failure, and they delivered even worse news. Apparently, the underground cable from the transformer to our house has failed or collapsed, so only one leg of power is...

I enjoyed that commute. A more “rural” side to the Houston area on the way to your client. Still cracks me up that you’re baking or stewing in heat and humidity and here in our UK summer, my early morning ride to work is a bit on the cool side.

Seeing the excitement of getting the backpack under the seat tells me you ‘really’ need to put some thought into an Xmax. I think you’d happy with it. You can put your laptop and lunch bag 😅. Heck, add a top case and you can even stop for some groceries on the way home.

Love the commute videos. I got a Super Cub I haven't used for commute yet. It's 150 miles round trip, and at 4:30 in the morning the idea of being able to ride in the car and drink coffee wins out over taking the Super Cub. Maybe one day the Super Cub will win out :D

    • @QuasiRAW
      @QuasiRAW День тому

Wow... 150 miles is a serious commute! You'd probably save a ton on fuel with the Cub, but it would take longer and wouldn't be as comfortable, that's certain. 😉👍 --QM

NEVER walk up to a mechanic and ask him to do anything for you when he’s in the shop working on vehicles. If you were at Costco and they were ignoring you, you could probably have gone to the customer service desk or the service advisor in the tire area and told him your situation and how their pumps let air out of your tires. He would’ve stepped up and taken care of you. Costco is really good about that I think. Great customer service there.

    • @QuasiRAW

Yes! The Ruckus is a fun scoot, but its 50cc carbureted engine is pretty anemic. The Navi 110 smokes the Ruckus in terms of acceleration and power, as does my Yamaha C3 50cc. The Ruckus is cool and minimalistic, but quite slow and limited compared to other scooters. 😉👍 --QM

I’ve got a 23 Pcx 160. Bought new, at around 1600 miles on the odometer currently. I mostly ride it to and from work 5 miles each way are about 45mph. Decent amount of stop lights. I average 101-103 calculated at the pump. I do have a national cycle touring screen which I think really helps with aerodynamics. But it’s still down from the 108-110 I used to get on my 2015 Pcx 150.

I was hoping this was the machine you alluded to a couple of weeks ago. My 2023 Zuma specifies 22 psi in the front tire, 29 psi in the rear tire. Any upgrades you would suggest? I am considering adding an Airhawk and a set of Michelin City Grip 2’s? Thanks for the videos.

    • @QuasiRAW
      @QuasiRAW 2 дні тому

I thought running the tires a bit higher might help the squishy cornering feel, but it's just making the front end even rougher. These knobbies just squirm and fade away on the edges... not very confidnece-inspiring in the corners. I haven't ridden them on wet pavement yet to know how that works, but I'm not expecting anything good. I think a set of Michelin CG2's on the Zuma would be great for the street. If you need off-road tread, then Heidenau K58's or Shinko SR246's might work well. Beyond that, I think the front forks are in dire need of re-valving. A YSS fork upgrade kit (upgraded springs with PD valves) would do wonders for the Zuma's front end. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Ah memories. I'm from Clear Lake...so...my house is at 22 feet above sea level. Fortunately, we have a couple of bayous and nothing downstream from us except UHCL, NASA, and nature preserves. Lots of ground for the water to soak in. For those that have never been through something like Harvey, it was like standing under the faucet of your tub (instead of your shower). For about three hours that Saturday, I literally could not distinguish water drops. It was the feeling of being under a waterfall. My area got 11+ inches over a three hour period. Crazy. Still, did not flood. Lucky. A friend of mine (out your way) stepped out of her second floor window into a boat for rescue. Just crazy. Thanks for sharing the video.

Agreed! Honda speedo's are always dead-on accurate. I might revert this bike back to the original size front sprocket just so I have an accurate speedo again. Thanks for the info! I checked out their video after you sent me this comment. I'm seriously considering that upgrade for my Rebel 1100 DCT. Nope, but I still do it when prudent for safety or heat concerns. We've had bills introduced several times over the past 15 years to legalize lane filtering for motorcycles, but they were never ratified. We rode in the grey area for a long time, and then the law changed last year to PROHIBIT lane filtering. It's an accepted practice in nearly every other civilized (and uncivilized) country in the world... so I wish Texas would catch on. 😒 --QM

@@conniewaite1371 Might be a good idea for an upgrade. Did you notice that it's located upstairs in the attic? Why these builders do such idiotic stuff. I suppose it is to have hot water sooner to the shower but that's why you insulate the hot water pipe.

i know you have rode a adv 150 but have you rode a 160 yet. if not you need to ride mine. and i have hit 74 mph on it and it loves to run 65 all day long. and i took it to the beach and he didn't mind the sand the loose hard packed and the wet spongy it did great on all them. now i need to find a gravel road and see how it handles that.

@@QuasiRAW well i have been like you one thing goes right 4 goes wrong. i still want to go but not sure money will let me. because our Government screwed me pretty good this year. my Tax's went up $6000 this year out of the blue. i had to beg borrow and steal what i could to pay it. and i found a airhalk seat cushion. but them things not cheap. i can get a cheaper one but i'm going to wait until i can get a air halk the reviews are just to good to go cheaper.

90 mph is not "breakneck" speeds especially on a bike. My normal cruising speed is 90-100 on my bike. It feels like 50mph so please find another hobby besides motorcycles if youre not comfortable or afraid of the highway and the speeds involved. That is more responsible and saves you and the rest of us from potential harm due to your lack of awareness and skill.

It's illegal and reckless to ride or drive like that on public roads. Good luck arguing your case with the police or to a jury in a vehicular manslaughter case. So, go fu*k your hat and change the channel! 🤣👎

That long, winding road was California SH-36. That's an amazing route, but only if traveled during daylight hours. I can't imagine the terror of trying to ride that at night with all the blind curves and wildlife! 😉👍 --QM

Watching you weave in and out of traffic makes me so happy i live in a vastly rural area! Driving a car, let alone a bike in that....Wowza! Im just getting into bikes and scooters at 43, looking at a 22' PCX 150 to get started on. Wanted something light and short. Your videos have aided this decision a lot! Appreciate all you post!
