Advocacy Guide Ep. 4: How to Bring Your Bill to the Capitol
Once you have completed Steps 1, 2, and 3 in our advocacy guide, you will have a bill or resolution that you hope to pass through the Georgia General Assembly! And that means being aware of how the assembly works and what to do at each step! Let us show you the ropes here. And along the way, you will need to build your grassroots momentum with activities and involvement. We have some good ideas for that in here as well!
This is the final video in our advocacy education guide series, but don't be sad, you can get involved with us and check out our #speakupforscience page on our website: www.scienceforgeorgia.org/speakupforscience/ where there are additional resources and detailed guides for all this stuff!
If you get a local advocacy movement going like Cowboy Charlie (except real), then reach out to Science for Georgia! We would love to help support you along the way!

    This is so much fun! Someone shared this video with me after I posted online about 3d modeling a swatch of "geometrically correct" stockinette stitch rather than just a texture of Vs. It has been fascinating to try to recreate knit in an engineering 3d modeling program- Fusion360 because it is free, though I really need to learn Blender. I would love to know more about the 3d models used in some of the presentation graphics- what program were they modeled in? How were they constructed? I love science and math with crafts and art, and I learned a lot from this talk =) Thank you!

    what does being queer have anything to do with environmental justice?? You want data look at real studies by real institutions that actually look into the real stuff not political agenda. I swear some of you live in a bubble.

    • @ScienceforGeorgia
      @ScienceforGeorgia 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment! Environmental justice refers to the solution to address environmental injustice. That does not only refer to racial disparities, but to all marginalized and disadvantaged demographics. So the speaker here seems to be telling us that understanding of the impacts on the queer communities is still lacking. We have data regarding a majority of the population, but when we extend data on majority groups to make inferences about everyone, we miss the outliers, create misunderstandings and often overlook those in need. If you do not think that such research is worthwhile then that is an opinion you are free to have about the research. But the research itself does not have a political agenda, we simply seek to gather reliable information.

      @@ScienceforGeorgia the name “environmental justice” does not fit the criteria that you are, but I guess it makes more sense now. Though to be fair there are laws protecting people regardless of what they go by. if anyone is to be violated of the laws then actions should be taken in accordance. I feel like this is similar to the women who neglect to report assaults. Which I can agree with the girl, people won’t report due to opposing feelings of the subject matter.

    As a knitter and a data scientist/statistician (my degree was in physics and computer science) this was fascinating! I really love Escher’s work - I will have to give sewing a go and make the hyperbolic blanket! Thanks for a brilliant talk and showing that textiles is mathematical.

    What a shame that the girl who is presenting this video is not able to speak in a normal way. The sound of her voice is like she is drooping or sliding down from something, absolutely too annoying to bear with.

    I don't know if Dr Matsumoto reads the comments here, but the petals of the Lily are curved for similar reasons that a leaf would be, since flower petals are modifications of a leaf, repurposed for sexual reproduction (form-fitting and attracting pollinators). Most leaves, when growing into maturity from their adolescent stages, unfurl from their bud. To the best of my understanding, it's just an efficient way to take up space while forming. :) Note, I'm not a proper scientist with letters to my name, just a nerdy nerdy person who's endlessly curious

    Thank you for raising the profile of knitting! I've been knitting for over 50 years and I think some people see it as silly and a bit old fashioned. But I've always found the manipulation of shapes, infinite patterns and the combinations of stitches absolutely fascinating.

      It's funny to me, because knits are everywhere, people just don't think about it. It reminds me of how I used to think machines sewed clothes together, and I learned later that humans actually have to do all of the sewing, because machines can't do that automatically. Knitting and sewing helped me appreciate how much thought and experience goes into such everyday items as clothing. An expertly made piece is amazing!
