BGen Val Jackson, USMCR - Commanding General, 4th Marine Logistics Group
In this episode, BGen Jackson discusses why leaders don’t always need a bias for action and how the Marine Corps has to go on, so not everyone is going to get what they want. We also dive into mentorship between genders and how leaders at all ranks can learn from her experiences - specifically where she was successful in receiving mentorship in a male dominated organization. Join us for a frank discussion on both active duty and reserve leadership.

I really needed to hear the part about “inspect what you expect” and how it is just a saying until you have a conviction of what right looks like!! And it takes a leader to coach you there” A++++

SgtMaj Reynolds-my favorite point in this show so far is “when officers have a tendency toward micromanagement, it’s probably because they were burned by Staff NCO failures.” This is why I work so hard to train lieutenants to know what to expect from SNCO and NCO leadership. Been burned too many times here, at least in my OccField…

Must be too boot to understand, but what's this leather belt/patches thing? It was mentioned like twice and it's ringing no bells.

Referring to throwback Service Alphas. Many Marines are wanting shoulder patches to return (myself included) IE the blue diamond patch on the shoulder of your coat. And I also believe we sported black belts vs our current color matched ones for the Pickle suit.

Sgt Maj Ruiz is an outstanfing leader and I had the honor to serve 3 of my 7 year Marine Corps career with him. We served in Iraq together while I was a Sergeant and Mr. Ruiz was a SSGT at the time. Semper Fi and God Bless!

This is a great podcast. I love that you let him speak and didn't interrupt or barrage him with a thousand different questions. I wish that there was a way that we could get SgtMaj Ruiz to have more than one tour as SMMC. It is so refreshing to see senior leadership be so genuine and give a damn about Marines. The way he speaks, the way he connects with Marines, whether in person or through social media is exactly what we needed. We need to hear directly from our top leaders what they are doing to improve the quality of life of the individual Marine and in the organization overall. No white letters, no SMMC memorandums. Get on camera, speak to us, and connect directly with us. I'm excited that he has figured out how to exploit the benefits of using social media. What a time to be in the Marine Corps! S/F
