Hello! Thanks for the question. So, Citronella grass gets BIG by comparison to lemongrass. So remember to get huge pot. I would even go with concrete to be honest as the plant gets tall 1.5m high and almost 2m across and will need some heavy base to prevent the wing from toppling it over. I'd use a coco- peat base with some sand, perlite, vermiculite and a …. you guessed it... controlled release fertiliser or rich organic fertiliser will do too. Hey there, during the dry season I water less often, just barely. maybe once per week. During summer or the rainy season almost daily. It grows pretty quickly at 33 degs lat. 50cm or more per season. Really depends. I have cut mine so many times hard to tell its age. Sorry... lol

Hey Roberto Thanks for your Q. Well sounds as though your temps are not too different from mine in the winter. My nights at the VERY coldest can get down to 5 degrees Celsius but the days are usually above 15 and as high as 27 or even 30(although not common for winter). As long as they don't freeze I think you're good to leave them out. I have had mine flower during spring and summer so fruit can be ready before winter hits. Anyway hope that helps.🌱

Hey, sure, try it. My assumption is that with a container you are able to apply greater stability as far as temperature, light and foreign potentially dangerous spores are concerned. Remember you're doing it to ensure that the spores are not overwhelmed by random fungi, or something that may prey on your spores.

Yes, sure. In nature it usually germinates around autumn, depending where in South Africa you are. However, the best time to sow this spp. is in spring from fresh seed. They need to be replaced or re-sown every 3 or so years. Although I am not sure how long they would go for. They come and go at will in my garden. Hope it helps.🌱🌱

Hey Warren, I would just use something to secure the plant in place and nothing more, especially as they are epiphytic. Some moss can be nice but should not be so much as to redirect the new root set into the moss. You want the roots to set onto the host rather than the 'aiding' substrate if that makes sense? As for the squirrels, can't help you there mate. We have monkeys but fortunately they rarely come into the garden here.

If you have temperatures of above 15 degrees Celsius during summer then it should grow easily but if you have a green house then that should be better. Let me know how it goes!

@@gardeningwithgabriel6698 Usually the average temperature is above 15 degrees here from May to September. We begin to grow seedlings of heat-loving plants at home (we use ultraviolet lamps for additional illumination) from February-March, then in April-May we transfer them to the greenhouse.

I actually can't wait to film it all, 2020 was the last update. A lot has changed.

Unfortunately my cats knocked it off my grow area twice after a years worth of development. I have harvested more spore just this summer so will definitely do a continuation on it.😺

Hey Janis Thanks for your comment. Well I don't know about boiling but I would imagine that if you do an infusion into olive oil or some other carrier and use a great deal of the grass stalks and leaves in oil that is heated for an extended period of time but never boiled then the end result should be something you could dilute in distilled water and a touch of isopropyl alcohol. I'll do it soon and let you know. Have been chatting to my mom about it so.
