Let's learn about some games!
This channel is built around my gaming experiences, in both turn-based tactical and survival games, with maybe a little extra thrown in here and there. My aim is to also utilize this channel to support military veterans. You won't find anything political or "hot topic" here, but instead focusing on PEOPLE and their value in this world.

Very excited to find your channel and this series. I have been hitting my head against this game for years with little success. I can manage the basics and do decent in fights but, I struggle with the pacing and noticing when to switch from attack to defending or when to get a second army ect.
You got a Discord would love a place to bounce ideas around that's not full of experts? xD
You mentioned in the video that no has told you why they would use loot and occupy. So I figured I would be the first. High Elves get replenishment when choosing that option. Since conquering the Dark Elves brings you in to conflict with the Chaos Waste, and most of the Waste has nothing worth keeping as High Elves (exception being the province that has 3 trade resources) I use the loot and occupy option along with the Rite that gives immunity to all attrition. I can send two or three armies marching across the waste taking everything in a lightning campaign, replenishing losses with the loot and occupy. Then on the next turn when my army moves on I abandon the settlement so I don’t anchor my economy with investment in building red territory up and I get larger amounts of loot coming in to build up my more valuable lands quickly. But you are right, if you want to keep the territory then never loot unless you need replenishment for an army that is facing a lot of approaching armies that you can’t avoid.

Just want to thank everyone who has been supporting the videos and channel up to this point! This is likely my last YT video for a while, I am in a new role at work and it is taking up more time than I expected. I may try to stream, when I have blocks of time, but recording and editing are proving to be a challenge with my current workload.

Idk if you saw or read that first tech you grabbed right, its ONLY movement for Bloodhosts, the armies you spawn from Razing choice. NO Movement for Skarbrand

What I do and suggest is cap The Capital settlement then let the MINOR settlements auto claim. Also I would ALWAYS grab the tech for %%% higher chance to auto claim in first turn

He is definitely a different approach, but he also felt similar to Beastmen.
What I did notice is your revivification unit is only getting 1 kill. Whilst it can be used for healing, it is great for charging in to melee, same as any of the dino units with abilities. Lizardmen have decent ranged and melee options. The only place I ferl they are a bit weaker is flying mobs. They are still fine, just not as good as the orher two options. Gor Rok also becomes pretty much unkillabke later on, once he gets his regen. You literally gather a bunch of mobs around him and Kroak blows them up. He is decent at hero killing, too, but suffers from not getting a mount at any point. For mounted heroes, skink heros are awesome and OP once they get their final . The Skaven siege battles are really not bad. You can take in Gor Rok solo, the stand Kroak outside and nuke stuff. Zero need for the army, but you can bring down the revivification crystal in case he needs a heal. The army can just chill out of range.
The problem I see is that if you are playing 7 to 10 turns, you will not really pick up the mechanics as you will not have experience most of the units, just the trash units at the start. Additionally, starting campaigns for some factions can be rough, and then change to overpowered later. Tehenhuain is a prime example of this. The start is ok for him having to deal with Skrolk, Rakark, and the Tomb Kings, but by the time you get to 15-20, confederations are in full flow, you have a full-scale war between all skaven and all lizardmen, and you are discovering how excessively useful chameleon skinks are.... everywhere. You also probably won't have got to see the broken sacrifice for followers/banners, resulting in the possibility of 0 construction costs and a stupidly high income. Oxyotl is similar. Does not initially look good. Stupidly OP later on. Gor Rok is very very good, just not as good as the previous two I mentioned. Personally 20-25 turns would give you a better chance to experience mire mechanics of the faction.

If you’re playing Taurox and swipe the Sword of Khaine, the campaign becomes almost laughably easy.
That's the elven sword quest item, right? I know the name, but not familiar yet with the item itself.
I'm enjoying watching your games. It's very entertaining seeing the perspective and enthusiasm of a new player to a game. As much as I enjoy some of the more popular TW channels, it's engrossing to see it from a fresh perspective where the ultimate end isn't a foregone conclusion (because those streamers have so many thousands of hours in, everyone knows they will win anyway). I know it's not a lot of views thus far, but hopefully that'll grow with time. Keep up the videos, but don't get burned out.

you cant just move your units in! you need to attack order and get the charge bonus! pause button is not a sin
I definitely need to use the pause button more, especially in those fights that are chaotic.
Vigour is your endurance in battle. if youre cycle charging with heavy cavalry they will lose vigour fast and get Winded or Exhausted and loose effectiveness at just about everything. i always take things that give vigour loss reduction, but i think you dont totally need them for beastmen the way that they play fast... you wana use speed to surround the enemy and not let them get a fair fight against you. Any long drawn out fight is bad for beastmen, you need to shock their morale and kill FAST

i think its important to find "your army" hell ya! its beastmen, lizardmen, khorne and tzeentch for me. its hard to get into any other factions
I agree, finding the army that works for you is a big part of the enjoyment, IMO. If you don't like the armies, it feels like it would be hard to play the faction.
Skaven for me, but then again, that's what I played on the table top for years.
@@malthusoth I think, if I could settle in and be okay with running two armies per attack force, I could get into the Skaven.
Definitely a different playstyle with Beastmen. Feels like it's all about aggression and momentum.

Loot and Occupy can be good as you get the settlement plus bonuses. The trade off is the "locals" don't like you and will eventually rebel when public order hits -100 in a few turns if left alone (they raise a small army that fights you). That's not necessarily a bad thing though, if your forces aren't currently weak, or needing to head off to other fronts soon. You can quell (defeat) the new enemy army, which gives your army XP (nice early on for faster leveling provided you dont take heavy losses or damage that causes you to rest for several turns) Granted, the developers toned down Public Order and rebellions in part 3, so they are less likely to happen or have as big an impact as they did when WH 1 & 2 were out. I'd say, as part of your learning and experimenting, mess with the different options on each settlement.

Not gonna lie, the men-at-arms system seems interesting, but also seems to require a delicate balance.
norsca is great, my very first wulfrik campaign ended with me stomping Ungrim into the ground with two full war mammoth doomstacks at turn 200, and was regularly raiding and harassing the high elves on Ulthuan. They have a great roster that lets you build your armies however you want, im a personal fan of hammer-and-anvil setups with marauder champions and ice-wolf chariots, with some fimir warriors and mammoths thrown into the mix
@novarat4089 The idea of the monster hunts sound cool to me, though not sure how much the units are really used at later turns.

Ah Ikit. Probably my favourite lord of my favourite faction in terms of themeing. I do think it is a little unfortunate how incredibly strong Ikit is compared to the other Skaven lords because in my opinion the Skaven, especially the non DLC lords could use a bit of love. But because Ikit exists the overall opinion is that the Skaven are fine. Also Ikit might be very powerful but his first few turns can definitely be very tricky to players unfamiliar with the game. Unless one of multiple cheese tactics gets used but I am not a fan of that
Yeah, I feel like my biggest mistake was turn one and not trying to go for that northern city (Maglisone, or something like that) and instead, I took the southern freebie. Felt like that decision allowed the Vampire Coast to setup shop next door.
The ranged damage, at least early, is pretty crazy for the Wood Elves. I've never been a fan of "kiting" in any game, but they seem very "kitey".

Skaven clanrats are your early game "backbone" units. Slaves are expendables. You throw them in as roadblocks and disruption. If they die, then they die (which is very much in the flavor of skaven lore). Dwellers from below are great for disruption. You summon them on top of key units (heavy hitters, long range units such as enemy jezzails, ballistas, etc) to kill/slow them down, meanwhile focuses your firepower on their other units who now are marching forward without support. Things like WarpLightning (Engineers ability... which is your Skaven Spell Caster), your bombs/guns/rockets are all your hammers (clanrats/slaves are your anvil...though clanrats more than slaves). It's perfectly fine to blow your own guys up. It's what skaven excel out. Everyone loses, just the enemy loses more than the Skaven. :D

@toofelhoont2866 you can do that. I mainly ran one army early, and used a lot of "Below" units. I also don't sit for 2+ turns to recruit. Move, recruit, end turn. That might be a reason some armies feel slow is due to wanting a full stack immediately early game before you advance. Meanwhile, the enemy is advancing and taking settlements, and increasing research faster. Also, for all armies, make use of your march stances (ambush, etc) so that you can heal, recruit, ambush, etc on the main map as you need it. Again though, I'm not the best at the game. Definitely look for more knowledgeable players for better insight.

This faction definitely challenged me a bit in upping my game and tactics.
Not that I'm great at the game, but it would be nice to see a battle now and then so those who are better at it might lend advise that could assist you in succeeding. I'm enjoying the videos though. Please keep them up.

ya once youre recruiting it locks you down, so you did it correctly by getting RIGHT up on your border and recruiting there

i dont play them but i dont think you're missing anything, some factions are just a little more straight forward like this tho, which i like sometimes =P
Had an organic example of this myself recently - decided I wanted to try out the Baba Yaga-esque "Mother Ostankya" and the first time, playing normally, suddenly got crushed when I felt I was doing good. She's a monster-based army with a limited unit selection. Her main strength until she allies with Kislev and gets access to their roster are the charms and hexes she can make every turn. You just pump those out and apply them to your and enemy units before a fight and your unit's strength drastically increasesas their unit's strengths drastically whither (like, +/- 25 Melee Attack and Defense for the entire battle per charm with the first charm I got access to, it also grants 15% physical resistance and perfect vigour.). They aren't expensive either - 5 of a resource you'll end up with hundreds of once you start waging war. A resource you need to spend to hit thresholds of for other things anyways. So yeah, my second attempt at the campaign is going much better because I slowed down and actually paid attention to the mechanics. Just pump out as many charms or hexes as I can in a turn, every turn, and use them constantly. Another good hex is the "Fragmentii" hex, deals a small amount of damage to the enemy so long as their health is above 25%. Apply it to their artillery or casters when they're on the defensive and just hang back as their long-distance units become something your cave bats can easily finish when they only have 25% of their total health, and the enemy healing doesn't factor in because it isn't for 75% of their health, but until they drop to 25% health, so the enmy burning healing keeping their units up only costs them resources. Good times.

Good technical parts to the video. Sound and video were good. But content was a lot of platitudes and very very generalised stuff. Thankfully wasn't long but I would have liked something that felt more like what the title promised.
@Blxz I appreciate the feedback and the time you took to watch the video! I hope you didn't feel "baited". You're absolutely correct, to some this info is very very generalized. However, to some, it's not even a thought going in to learning something this complex. The great news is that it sounds like you've already got that solid learning approach and are ready for the next steps. I'm getting there, myself, and plan to release more videos with gameplay mechanic tips, which may be more of what you're referencing. Thanks again for your time and thoughts!
We have to start with our mindset, need to build a solid foundation to learning this puppy. Oh, and towards the end, when I mention our growth and "stunt", welll that timing was not intentional!
As somebody who is in the same process as you with learning the different factions I found out for myself that it is a huge help to group the factions into their battle play style. What I noticed is that I simply don´t enjoy heavily melee focused factions like Khorne, Greenskins etc. So those factions I avoid for now until I get tired of the other factions or want to try something new

i was a total war fanboy before this so it was easy enough for me to get in and figure out the warhammer side of things, but magic and abilities still fuck me up dont forget that slow and pause button! I would lose damn near everything without that hahahahahaha

I played the first Total War game, a long time ago, but at the time, found it overwhelming. For me, the Warhammer setting is really what is giving me the motivation to want to learn the game.
I stink at Nurgle just as bad as he probably smells... Did not do well the two times I tried him.
@@CrispHigh Yeah, those plagues will take me a bit of time to learn, for sure. I'm finding it's both the mechanics and army compositions that are dictating my preferences.
Settra's is a very solid beginner's faction because his lord and faction effects do everything to make you hit the ground running a whole lot faster than if you choose the other Tomb Kings. Tomb King buildings take a long time to build so cutting the construction duration by 1 turn is a big deal. Growth is also great because all the best parts of the Tomb Kings are locked behind Tier 4 and Tier 5 settlements and you can be waiting 50 turns to get there even if you build and upgrade growth buildings whenever possible at the expense of other things. Recruitment capacity +1 means you can build up your armies faster - and not just Settra's, as long as he's in the province. The replenishment bonus is also a huge boon because the less time you spend healing up, the more time you are spending conquering your expansion targets. Normally a +100% bonus to leadership radius is considered a very weak bonus but Tomb Kings have quite low leadership and anything that keeps them from crumbling is great. Settra later gains a very strong chariot mount and a Khemian Warsphinx mount and that means Settra is less likely to be close to his units because of how those mounts function. The leadership aura being doubled allows Settra to venture further away on those mounts without impacting his units' leadership. Finally, the +50% allegiance points with Tomb Kings allows you to play diplomatically if you wish and benefit from that by expanding your recruitment options without building the normally prerequisite military buildings. This feeds into you being more likely to be building growth, income and garrison buildings rather than spending your building slots on military buildings to increase your unit capacity. Settra starts off in the most hostile region of the game, he has very aggressive factions on all sides and everyone hates him. You end up fighting Skarbrand, Arkhan, and Manfredd all at once.

@@toofelhoont2866 Yah by the time you finish you first province Manfredd can have 2 full stacks. It's all trash units, but so are yours. Like unless you are a god at chariot micro you are gonna have a rough time. Skarbrand has hyper elite infantry and well, Skarbrand . . .

I enjoyed watching this. Tomb Kings cav are lack luster, but can be decent harassers. Their chariots are more of a threat, but require more micro managing. Most mounted units you typically need to micro though by making them charge in, then having them run away, turn around, and charge again. They have a boost to damage on the charge, but suffer in protracted engagements Generally you want buildings with Growth early game as it allows you to "level up" your cities (build Tier 2, 3, etc). Late game, it's not as important so you can destroy some growth buildings and replace them for other things Units gain Leadership, Attack, and Defense bonuses as they level up, making them more effective and durable. In the case of your Tomb Kings, it means it becomes harder to get them to crumble. So it's beneficial to get bonus unit levels when you can from heroes, but not necessarily your first priority.

First off welcome to this game. There's a lot to learn and good luck. I figured I'll give you a rundown. So some lore to start (very watered down, I suggest Loremaster of Sotek for more in depth discussions) Nurgle is a Chaos God. One of the big four. The others are Slaanesh, Khorne and Tzeentch. Nurgle is the god of pestilence, decay and rebirth. So think of plagues, rot and an evil version of the 'circle of life'. Ku'gath is a Great Unclean One. A Greater Daemon of Nurgle. Basically his strongest 'child' in a way. Nurgle is referred to as 'Grandfather' as he is fairly kind. He loves his followers and sees them all as family. Granted it's a more obsessive and cult like love. 'Everyone out there is against us but I love you' sort of deal. He may love you but he loves the bacteria and viruses in your body as much. All four Chaos Gods fight frequently. Engaging their forces to see who's the best at any chance. As for gameplay you picked one of the tougher factions here I'd argue. Nurgle uses Plagues that give bonuses to you/ Nurgle forces and debuffs to other factions. You use infections for these and recruitment buildings. You would have noticed with Nurgle you summon units at reduced health. You have a pool of units available and you can increase the capacity of this through Advanced Military Buildings (purple ones), technology research and skills. You get units added to the pool every time a building completes a cycle. Which is capped by the settlement tier. So for example a tier 2 settlement will cycle through the first one or two then reset. It takes a number of turns to cycle but this can be sped up with things like Plagues or spending Infections. The bonus recruitement health means the units get more HP when summoned. Otherwise they all spawn at half health. A trade off for not waiting. The units that destabalise and crumble are Daemons. Undead units also do that. Basically as creatures of magic they will start breaking down when morale breaks. A balance thing as they don't route and run away. So congrats on picking up on that detail. Nurgles roster is tanky but quiet slow with the base one. Magic is super helpful especially with healing. You focus on wearing down your opponent. Keeping your troops alive with spells and blasting them with magic that, with the passive, heals you. The Great Game mechanic is based on global corruption. So whichever Chaos God has the highest amount of their corruption. So you need X amount of Nurgle corruption spread to access those other abilities. And an event can make you ascended which gives stronger effects to the abilities. That's a very basic overview of it. There's a lot more details to it but you'll learn that by playing or looking at more detailed explanations. I didn't want to write a novel on this. Keep it up and enjoy. Also it pays to be aggressive at first with most factions. But different Legendary Lords and subfactions can change up how you play. So keep that in mind.

Hey man, love your videos I just wanted to give some feedback if you don't mind. Firstly, your idea of baiting the garrisoned lord to attack the hero is very good, but there's a problem: an army or lord cannot attack a lone hero. Only lone heroes attack lone heroes. if you recruited another lord you could have used that tactic. I also have something to say regarding your ogre video. You spent way too long building your army, early games I like to recruit armies once i take a settlement, you cannot move after occupying but you can recruit, which speeds up your conquest a lot. More settlements = more money = faster expansion. Hope that helps a little :]
