The First 7 Days: How to Make New Coaching Clients Feel Confident They Made the Right Choice Ep. 95
After a client says "yes" to working with you, those first few days are huge. They might be excited about finally taking action with their money, but they're probably also nervous, wondering if they made the right choice. In this episode, we're talking about how to make your new clients feel completely confident in their decision to work with you.
We've noticed that there's actually more uncertainty right after someone pays you than at any other time in the coaching relationship. Even though they've already committed, they might be thinking "Will this actually work for me?" or "Did I just waste my money?" Your onboarding process needs to address these worries before they even come up.
Here's the thing about financial coaching: we're dealing with really personal stuff. Money touches every part of our clients' lives, which is why those first interactions matter so much. So this week, we’ll talk about specific ways to welcome your new clients, from sending a personal video message to giving them a quick win right away. We also share real examples of systems you can use to make sure nothing falls through the cracks while still keeping things personal and genuine.
Want to know exactly what needs to happen between "yes" and that first session? Listen in to learn our tried-and-true timeline that keeps your clients feeling supported and builds their confidence from day one.

Key Takeaways:
- The moment after payment is when clients are most uncertain. Reassure them immediately with a welcome message or personal video that shows you're excited to work with them.
- Your systems make personal touches possible. Set up templates and reminders so you can consistently show up for each client without keeping everything in your head.
- Quick wins build confidence. Give clients something valuable they can do right away, like a simple money tracking template, so they feel momentum before the first session.
- Clear communication prevents doubt. Tell clients exactly when and how they'll hear from you next, with specific ways they can reach out if needed.
- Time gaps kill momentum. Schedule the first session within a week of payment to keep their motivation high and self-doubt at bay.
- Success stories set expectations. Share examples of what other clients have achieved so new clients can envision their own path forward.
- Trust needs nurturing, even after payment. Each interaction between signup and first session should reinforce their decision to work with you.

    Value fatigue, love the topic. So many providers tell us the value of what they offer without answering the question that matters most to me. The value of something is not based on what it cost to produce or deliver. Value is what I will pay for it. The price of something is associated but different than value. I have also bought too many products over the years that the value delivered did not bring us the value promised. Selling something based on what it is worth selling is so different than the value to the buyer.

    what is the best certification to match with financial coaching? AFC, CFM?

    • @FinancialCoachAcademy
      @FinancialCoachAcademy 22 години тому

      Hi Ian! No certification is technically "needed" to become a financial coach, but of the ones that exist I do think that AFC is top notch. It is focused on financial counseling and education. We have had many coaches who have gone thru the Financial Coach Academy who have either pursued their AFC certification first or have gone on to pursue it after completing the Academy. If you are trying to determine which night come first for you I would recommend checking out our website financialcoachacademy.com and you can always email our team to get more information!

    Great content Kelsa! I have been coaching since June 1, 2024. Like you and other new coaches first starting out, my niche is helping Everyone. This episode has helped me identify and change that significantly. I see now that along with financial coaching, my shared passion is fitness/weight training. The exercises and format were excellent. The struggle I am having is narrowing down to a specific group; single/couples/divorced. What are your thoughts? Do I need to narrow, or can my marketing touch on all 3 groups? I was impacted by divorce and money was for sure a root cause, however I know I can help couples starting out to avoid the mistakes that we made.

    • @FinancialCoachAcademy
      @FinancialCoachAcademy 22 години тому

      I don't think you necessarily need to narrow that down just yet David. I think gaining experience will help you identify if you want to work specifically with those going thru divorce, or those who are married, or both! Love that you are contemplating how you can tie your passion for weight training/powerlifting into your business - the analogies between the two can be a really powerful way to communicate about what you do as a coach with money!

    Love, love, love your channel. For your equation at 5:00, it sounds like you say (Desired Annual Income) / (Hours Per Week) * (48 weeks in a year) * 1.3 (Taxes and Expenses) = Baseline for New Rate. I think you mean to also divide by 48 weeks: (Desired Annual Income) / (Hours Per Week) / (48 weeks in a year) * 1.3 (Taxes and Expenses) = Baseline for New Rate. This equation is amazing and really put pricing into perspective. Thank you so much for what you're doing!

    • @FinancialCoachAcademy
      @FinancialCoachAcademy Місяць тому

      Hi Daniella! A "full client list" definitely means different things to different coaches. It's really based most on how many clients are desired by the individual coach and the income desired too. Coach Kelsa’s # is 20 clients, Coach Jill's is 60 (!!!) and Coach Jaclyn's may be more like 30-40.

    If I were starting 1 on 1 coaching, what would be considered a full schedule where i would end up having a waiting list for onboarding clients?

    • @FinancialCoachAcademy
      @FinancialCoachAcademy Місяць тому

      Hi there! This would depend on a number of factors - such as how many hours you have available to work/coach, if you have any support for the admin or marketing side of the business, how your coaching program is structured and how frequently you meet with clients and even how you price yourself and what your revenue targets are. Probably a number of additional factors as well. I have seen coaches who have a waitlist when they have 20 clients and others who do not have a waitlist and have 60+ clients. So it really is difficult to say without knowing a lot more. But I would say - MOST coaches don't need to worry about a waitlist for at least the first couple of years, so my best advise is to just get started! You can worry about a waitlist when you get to the point that you are too busy to onboard new clients in a timely manner. :)

    I am so glad i found this channel. I have always been interested in personal finance. I want to help people make a better future for themselves and their future generations. I quit a job with the county with great benefits. I became a financial professional with an insurance company. But i feel that at the end of the day what matters is to make the sale. I am stillnot registered so i can't yet sell market exposed solutions. I tried googling financial literacy job and just basically got more positions that did what i already did. Sell financial products and call that education. I remembered about DR financial coaching. I looked it up and on reddit someone recommended FCA. I believe this is my calling. But to your question i will answered based on what i think i would do instead of what i already do. I think for situations Iike that i may give then their options.. take the leap of faith and pay regular price from the get go. Or take a discounted or free few sessions but after have an increased price sessions to "make up the loss" . Kinda like a trial session for themand show them what i can do. Then after a the few session and once i "make up the loss" go back down to regular price. Or offer group sessions to share the cost but would not have that personalized feel. I dont know if they would be willing to share their financial troubles in a group setting anyways 🤷. About credit card i dont think its a negative thing. As a(future) business owner, i believe that money should be accepted however it comes. It should give you that great feeling when you help clients be able to afford you. Kindahow teacher get that feeling when they see their student learn the information that they just taugh them. Thank you so much for this episode
