    Nice review, thanks for sharing. I bought my MV GLS for 59k which included a tow bar and luxury pack. This is a saving of over 8-10k on the similarly specified Ranger, it’s not even close in price. I’m also not sure why reviewers when waxing lyrical about the ranger, never mention ford’s appalling customer service, reliability issues and the ‘wet belt’ trouble that’s going to be become a major issue in years to come.

    • @yan_stewi_travels
      @yan_stewi_travels Місяць тому

      @@alexjohnson3696 that’s a good price! when they were first released they had a huge price hike but due to lack of sales they have dropped the prices down to less than what we paid for our MR. Yeah the reliability is shocking in the ranger as we learn more and more every day, on paper and the drive of the ranger feels miles ahead of the triton but it’s the reliability and fords typical build quality that only allows it to last the warranty period before it has critical issues. We really wish the new triton was released with a v6 model as it’s a game changer when directly compared towing in the next gen ranger.

      @@kayneottley4669 for sure being lightweight give the triton a massive advantage off road. As for the gearbox the hilux, DMAX and MV triton use the same 6 speed, when we test drove the new gen triton that it gearbox felt more refined and just overall a better. The car also used the gearbox to engine brake when slowing down to which the Mr doesn’t do this at all sadly. Huge step forward which hopefully someone can work out a tune for the MR to give the box a more refined feel. Thanks for the comment 👍

    I've had an AX27 for about 2.5 seasons here in Colorado. I have had zero issues with it. It has been in +50mph winds, sideways rain/sleet. Recently we were in a 12-15 hour rain/sleet/snowstorm with several hours of hard rain. I thought for sure there would be some leakage. But upon inspection after I returned home all was dry. I pulled the mattress out to find zero moisture in the tent. I did hear about the possibility if the pop rivets on top leaking, so I sealed them shortly after I received the tent. I have also threatened to seam seal all of the exposed seams but have yet to do so. The tent is quite heavy. Mine is on a Ruger offroad trailer. Not sure I would ever want it on top of my vehicle. I have had zero corrosion paint issues, but here in CO the climate is mostly dry, and corrosion is not usually an issue. I have 250 watts of solar panels mounted on top along with 4 cross bars and a shovel and the struts easily lift the tent. I also have an OVS 180* awning mounted on the side with the Bush Company tent to awning brackets which are really robust. Recently purchased the spring rod adapter to keep the spring rod from contacting the awning are. All in all I am very happy with my AX27. I previously had a 1st gen Roofnest Falcon mounted on my truck and the quality and durability between the two is night and day. The AX27 is 5 times the tent the Falcon was. But it's nearly twice the weight.

      Great to read about your positive experience. On a car it’s definitely a heavy thing and bulky, we forgot to mention it’s actually difficult to store as well if not using it. But worth it for a good nights sleep that handles the rough weather. I feel the compromise between a lightweight tent vs the quality can sometimes shift very quickly.

It seems there’s really no options to get a decent lift out of the MR if it has bar and winch on the front (besides spacers and body lift lol NO THANKS), I just cannot find front coils rated for a true 50mm above 100kg! The closest advertised was the kings front coils in the formula 50mm kit which are 50-100kg constant. Hey mate, iv been looking at these for about 6 months now. Can I ask some questions, is the sound quality better the the factory unit, with the obd can you get the speedo on the screen and can you get turbo temp ect ect, dose it retain all the factory ports and all controls. What is the gps like as it's installed under the dash, do you need internet to use maps like we do now with the mr or can you down load the maps and that's it even if the phone isn't connected. I would have heaps more questions but that's it for now.

    • @yan_stewi_travels
      @yan_stewi_travels 5 місяців тому

      We would recommend it for sure, the audio sounds significantly better than the OEM unit and you can modify the sound and run a sub direct plug in from the rear for that added bass. Yeah mate obd2 displays speed and all your temps, like exhaust, engine boost pressure everything that the ecu talks to the obd2 will display. All steering wheel buttons and everything is retained, legit feels like an oem unit but better With internet the unit itself needs it to run apps but Apple CarPlay will use the internet off your phone, you can tether your phone or do what we do and have a mobile broadband sim in the unit. The MR triton, had one as a work car for ages. Hated it. -The phone connectivity was constantly hit and miss. -The "turbo" seemed to only be there as an asthetic in the engine bay, offering absolutely no detectable difference to its lawnmower engines power output. -The lawnmower engine itself, sure it made the ute go from a to b, but on a higheay, overtaking a road train often involved redlining the bitch and holding it flat strap to get it anywhere near 120 to go round safely. Id hate to see how gutless they are loaded up and or towing a heavy load. -The AC, if you parked in the sun for an hour or more on a hot day, youd start the motor and have the ac going flat out at 18c, and wait outside the vehicle having smoke, then get in, and it still wouldnt cool down. I found that even when you open the rear roof vents and put the rear fan on maximum while the ac was on, it took an awfully long time for any cool air to come through. -The wheel, again parked in the sun for an hour or more, youd need to put a towel over the steering wheel if you wanted to touch it when you got in -the windscreen sensors malfunction in the heat, take three corrigated roads and say goodbye to the front and rear park sensors. -The headlights, standard beam headlights left much to be desired, i found my 25 year old lowered falcon gave better low beam light than the MR. -The fact i couldn't tell my workplace to keep the bucket of crap and just use my 25 year old falcon instead. -The money youd spend buying one and "making it decent" is on par with buying a really good secondhand well built and kept rig like a older hilux or cruiser, which offer that awesome toyota reliability.

Can I ask what series you had? Agreed Headunit in them is rubbish we recently upgraded and feel it’s the first thing you should do for sanity. Where was you working to have so many issues with heat, we are yet to experience these issues as live in Tassie and have only really been as far as SA we haven’t experienced extreme heat as yet, but will likely experience this when in the top end next year. Our reality was the triton was the best priced, cost us a fraction of the price to set up, we aren’t as stressed if we scratch it or have damage etc due to the costs vs a 300/ y62 set up, we can use it as the work ute instead of being obsessed and worrying about damage etc all the time. For now it’s fit for our purpose and we haven’t experienced a lot of the issues you found with the work ute,but who knows in time we might live to hate it to time will tell.

    Thanks for the update Yan & Stewi - I left the Hilux at home and cycle toured around gorgeous Bruny Island in Summer - good choice with the Triton and its value for money and reliability despite the turbo lag of your gen - thank goodness you didn’t choose a Ford Ranger with tts known poor reliability and design issues - Dmax are known to have body tearing in the engine bay - Chinese brands are cheap for a reason and come with their own in built factory rust (sorry Yu) - I like my Hilux but if budget was a concern I’d happily choose a Triton but not the new one with stop/start ignition and ‘bad driving’ electronic aids issues - I fit accessories myself because of the maverick cowboys in the industry and rely on my avionics/engineering background to do my own wiring including dual battery system - all my heavy canopy items are over the rear axle and I don’t have an extra heavy spare wheel at the back but a spare tyre only and simply use the air compressor - at stage 3 (four year build now) with Sureflo water tank/pump/fully enclosed shower next - I will then get Pedders to add extra comfort rating springs/shocks to support total canopy weight with fuel/water onboard.

We are starting to realise not going the tamer was a wise decision they have so many issues already. On paper they look incredible it’s a bit of a shame. We agree if you are handy on the tools or exceptionally qualified in your case it’s better to do all the mods yourself as others don’t seem to care much. We are looking to install a water tank for a built in shower as well, was legit planning it all last night, we will post up a video ones the car is fully tour ready. We have gone through multiple set ups with suspension so if you need any tips reach out, just weigh your car and then choose your suspension accordingly. Nice review. I just sold a Colorado (only because Holden don't exist anymore) and decided to buy a Triton as I drove them for work a few years back and was impressed.(2X single cabs). Wife used to work for a local multi brand dealership so we went in to buy a base model Triton dual club. Drove out with a GSR 4x4 with lotsa extras for no extra $$$ (the extras, the baseline price was higher) as it was offered under runout deal pricing that couldn't be ignored relative to the base model price. Only put 200KM on it so far and just getting a feel for it. Steering hunts from centreline and the gearbox hunts a bit as well at times. Need to learn to drive it though as it has a smaller wheel base than competitors which has handling advantages - though also is the cause of the rear overhang debates. It's a truck. The Super Select is unparalleled and combined with diff centre locking makes this ( I believe) a unique vehicle . Anyway just saying I enjoyed your review and am still working out if I'm leaving this thing stock or not.

      @@johnobrien6869 that’s awesome, glad you’re enjoying the triton. The steering takes a while to get used to as it’s quite rugged, bumpy through the steering, the new model addresses this with an electronic rack over hydraulic, you’ll just adapt though. I feel that the paddles in the MR are the best thing for it as you can elect what gear it needs to be in, once you learn where the sweet spots are rev and gearbox wise, you’ll enjoy it more. They do actually handle very well for what they are and are the lightest in the segment. If you do mod it make sure they are very conservative mods, we have probably gone a bit far and are still chasing issues with the rear end parabolic leaf set up, but hope to have them resolved in the next month.
