Just found your channel and this video. I spend an unfathomable amount of time watching video game history and retrospectives at work and such, and the sheer amount of cool trivia I've heard in your video is awesome. So many cool things I've never heard about before, like the N64 Promotional videos for store employees. Awesome stuff man.

Gonna say some real pretentious shit *also soz for oversharing* but as a kid the European cover art of Symphony of the Night, and basically the entire aesthetic of the Koji Igarashi games afterwards *plus my grandma collected art and was also obsessed with dark romanticism & traditional gothic* being possibly the start of my autistic as shit obsession with all things kinda dark romantic & traditional gothic plus kinda weird unearthly stuff. An adult now still gotta a huge interest in gothic literature and started collecting a lot of rando art with a similar unearthly gothic and dark romantic feeling. Plus my apartment is basically all Victorian era furniture that I’ve gotten mostly from charity shops that I’ve restored or built upon. I’ve also been practicing a lot of my own art for a while now, most of it taking inspiration from my own personal fears, mental illness that I sometimes find difficult & sometimes just general spooky shit coz board. Without wanting to sound like a douchbag I feel for the past year and a bit my art has been good enough for me wanting to have it hung in my own apartment lmao I dunno dude something about symphony of the night, it’s haunting atmosphere juxtaposed against that beautiful orchestral soundtrack at the beginning did something to my dumb overstimulated 10 year old brain 😂 Plus during puberty *like a lot of teenagers* I developed pretty shit house depression, my mental illness I mentioned before becoming way less manageable and my own feelings of inadequacy around being autistic kinda making me a bit of cunt in my friendships and later relationships *still trying unlearn that behaviour tbh* definitely contributed to a lot of the art I collect and do now. Tl:dr pretentious as fuck autismo on the youtube comments section rambling about his interests in a specific genre of art coz symphony of the night. 🎉 👌 Also didn’t know any of this so thanks for sharing 👌

Ocarina of Time is so special to me that if you were to mention the words fall 2001 to me I immediately think of it. I received it for Christmas in second grade in 2000, I was like eight. I had already had my N64 for a year. I had played Mario 64, Yoshi's story, GoldenEye, world's not enough, and others. I couldn't get past the Deku Tree, number one I was too afraid of spiders, and number two I just don't think I was clever enough. I didn't realize that you had to jump off the ledge onto that web below to break it. Then one Saturday morning in fall 2001, I decided to take a break from the cartoons of Fox kids and take a crack at zelda. I mustered the courage to deal with the spiders. By that point over the course of the previous year I had to thoroughly explored the Lost Woods thinking that there would be some alternative route to get out of the forest. The game seems so vast. It seemed like the world of that game was just bigger than I could have ever imagined. You could be teased by setting foot into a small area of Goron City. All these little caves and holes that I got into. Once I braved the tree and beat Goma I never forget Steppin Out into Hyrule Field for the first time. It wasn't until later that I realized that the world of that game was much smaller than I had thought. But back then it was a truly Unforgettable experience

The N64 was special to my childhood. My first exposure was with my cousins around 1999/2000 who had one in their big ass underground basement entertainment room. Years later, my friends next door had a gamecube with a game called Super Smash Bros Melee. In retrospect, seeing how the game was a launch title with the system at the tail-end of the N64's life, there were a lot of carry-overs from the N64. And after looking into that former Nintendo console, I purchased a used N64 on Ebay along with Star Fox 64 and it blew me away.

11:30 CD burning wasn’t a thing until like 1997 at the earliest, and wasn’t common til about 1999. I remember playing pirated games in the later half of the PS’s life but I don’t remember anyone playing FFVII on a CD-R, and we ALL played FFVII. Pirating was around the corner, but wasn’t a problem for a few years when the PS was released. I did play FFIX on CD-R on an emulator on my desktop around 2001, but that was at the end of the PS life, PS2 was coming out and used DVDs. Then DVD-Rs took a while to take a foothold. Basically Sony was able to stay ahead of piracy with each console release, and it’s easy to do so when they were the inventors of some of those technologies.

At first you said you were about 6 years old when you first saw the N64, I was like "ok thats understandable" then was confused when you said you were an "Ipad kid." Because Ipads didnt exist in the 90's. Then you mentioned being only 20. I was like "Oh! That makes sense". I feel so old right now. Anyway I enjoyed the video, definitely brings back a lot of nostalgia.

It sucks getting old. I'm 43 now and seeing people half my age talk about these consoles that sre honestly still pretty fresh for me, in the same tone of voice i use to talk about the Atari 2600 or even the NES. I'm glad to see younger people still keeping alive a love and enjoyment for retro machines but by graces does it make me feel old.

I'm glad UA-cam recommended this to me, its commendable how someone a decade my junior could create such a thorough investigation into what defined my childhood while also bringing a modern perspective and (maybe cynical) witticism about it. All this advertising nonsense was lost on me as a silly kid who didn't read gaming magazine, but for example, the entire section about Kirby's Dream Course/Air ride was so accurate to my feelings about it...

As someone whose first console was the N64, I'm very happy I found this video. You did the system and gaming history as a whole justice. About damn time UA-cam recommended me something good
