Sondheim himself said “you moved me greatly” after hearing her sing this song
An absolute Star 😊
She barely moves a muscle. She doesn't rise, she doesn't gesture. She just sits there and delivers the song. It's so restrained. It makes the occasional tilt of her head more meaningful and very line land exactly as it should.
Would anybody, by any chance, have a slime turorial of this? I can't find it 🥲
I was lucky enough to been seated in the second row of the Shubert Theatre in 1973, watching tears streaming down Glynis Johns' face. I've seen Sally Ann Howes, Catherine Zeta Jones and Juliet Stevenson play Desiree too. While no one will ever top the great Glynis, for whom Send in the Clowns was written, I would pay a whole lot of money to see HW in a full production.
Honesty cannot watch this without crying. Each time. It’s so well done. Hannah Waddingham conveys the emotions Desiree is going through so perfectly. What I would give to have seen this in person.
Wonderful rendition! Best acted and sung!
that vibrato!
This is the perfect combination of the 'Angry' Judy Dench portrayal and the pitch perfect Sally Anne Howes rendition.
She would absolutely kill as Norma Desmond.
I was brought here by what I heard in Ted Lasso. Such an incredibly talented actress and singer.
Hannah Waddingham, exquisite here as she is in everything she does. A wonderful actress and singer.
Amazing how many years I’ve been repeating this video, and now she’s EMMY AWARD WINNER Hannah Waddingham
She is such an amazing actor.
I am mad for Ms W. A brilliant talent
Amazing. I came across this wonderful actress because of Benidorm but she is full of so much talent
Playing the heartstrings like a true master. Thank you for the depth of emotion you share with us.
Geeeez, this just made me cry. Brava, Hannah.
Shout out to all my fellow Ted Lasso fans!
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! 🔔🔔🔔
Love this! Love Hannah! What a talent 😍😍😍xxx
This Lady is Magical. I heard a snippet of her singing "The best is yet to come" and I almost died. She has a Gift only given to a few.
So, an actress who sings, not the usual actress who doesn't.
Very well done, Hanna.
most emotional version.
Good lord! I had no idea the Septon could sing!
best version of this song i have ever heard
Love Hannah Waddingham. Blown away ever since she sang winner takes it all in benidorm.Would love to see that again
is there a full show anywhere? I'd love to see her do the whole thing. She's just absolutely thrilling.
WOW. Just watched Miss Waddingham in the Marple ep. Mirror Crack'd on Acorn TV and wondered more about her. What a FIND to discover this fantastic performance. Brava.
Brilliant. Does anyone know who the guy was? Amazing acting.
Its Alexander Hanson
Hannah Waddingham is the new Mum in Benidorm starting in January 14'
Wow, this is incredible! Magnificent.xx
Absolutely incredible.
I've got just one question: where has this come from? And is there more than this?

I love hanna
What a Beautiful, devastating performance. Xx
Hannah Waddingham...One of the most outstanding singing and acting talents of today - and added to that - a beautiful and kind person!
Superb rendition. Even the notoriously awkward "next year" conclusion (the accenting of which Sondheim often apologises for) is expertly judged. Bravo, Hannah! Oh, how I wish this production were available on DVD!
beautiful and heart rending
What a magnificent performance. Class personified.
Well, that last minute is indeed spectacular. I'm speechless. Wow!!
Hannah is STUNNING in this.
That last minute is just amazing,i have no words
Wow, just.....wow.
this version is a little too fast for me. I understand the movement through the song as though it were speech. I also understand that this song was written for a non-singer so those actresses that take their time and sing it are always judged. I just wanted to see a little more from her because I know she can do it. I'm not saying it is bad, I just wonder if a different direction could be taken.
I was fortunate enough to see this performance at the Meunir Chocolate Factory in London and this version of the song is without any doubt, the very best I have ever heard. She enters the character 100%; that of an older, now disilusioned women, who has loved and lost. Those who sing this song without understanding the character, fail, simply because they sing without knowledge. Supreme examples of this are Frank Sinatra who confessed he had no idea what it is about, Joni Mitchell who sings it as a dirge and Barbara Steisland who emotes too much.
One word, AMAZING
