Millicent Joy Sewing Patterns
Canada
Приєднався 15 лют 2021
This UA-cam channel stems from my love for drafting, hacking, and giving other sewists the confidence and tools they need to tackle their ideas without having to buy a new pattern for every garment they want to sew. (That leaves us more money to spend on the fabric, right?!)
In April 2019 I started up Millicent Joy Sewing Patterns and sold PDF sewing patterns primarily for women and some for children. Unfortunately, in June 2020 I had to make the hard decision to shut down my storefront. My pattern collection can still be found in my Gumroad Shop and on Makerist. Sewing and drafting are a huge part of my life and I want to continue to give back to the community so this is a hobby project of mine that I will give as much time to as I am able to, when I am able to.

Lutterloh System - Favourite Initial Patterns
Переглядів 3,3 тис.3 роки тому
#lutterloh #sewlutterloh #goldenrule Thanks for joining me on my first video- so please bear with me! This video takes you through my initial favourite patterns that I added to my "to sew" list. Let me know which are your favourites and I plan to film the process of using the Lutterloh system and sewing up each of the patterns. Thanks for the video. You mention that the shoulder width needs to match up before you cut it out of fabric. ( at 10:34) my back shoulder is wider than my front. Any idea why? How do I fix it? Thanks again.
How did the absorbency work for you? Thinking of using the same!
Just came on here to say you made making a carrier seem easy for me. I’m now onto making my second (I have venting ideas) and I’m so happy!
Wonderful video. Thank you.❤
Very helpful 👏🏻👏🏻 thank you!
Suggestion: Copy the pattern and use the copy and keep the original preserved:)
How do you do the back?
Super sad I can't get the pattern anymore but they are super cute!!!
Could I make this with a water proof outside so I wouldn’t need a cover?
hi I can't find the cutting pattern, since the link doesn't work (or it seems) can you please share it again?thanks for your beautiful job
As mentioned in the video, I didn't provide the cut file for my modifications because of liability. But this is what I started from and then modified it (I show the modifications in the video) wiki.babywearingdiy.com/do/view/Main/BuckleOnbuhimo
I ordered in August 2021 from a different company and got a different set of patterns in my binder! Now I need to add previous supplements to my wishlist to get some of these patterns! Yours seems to include the supplements from 2018-2019, but mine has the supplements from 2019-2020, so some of the same, but only about half. Interesting how it's affected by just ordering from a different website.
Actually, your's may be 2017-2018, so completely different than mine. Neat!
Great video Amelia!! I love that you added a detachable hood!! Hey, we are roughly the same height!! I had no idea!!
Yay for another tall person! I have most of my extra length in my legs so thankfully I don't need to make many adjustments for sewing shirts And thanks! I was getting so hung up in my head about the hood and figured detachable not only allows me to use it or not but also if I decide It's not the right size I can easily sew up another one.
Does this method take into account the front and back rise on pants?
As in using your own front and back rise measurements? No. The Lutterloh system is based entirely off of your bust measurement and your hip measurements. The patterns are based off of the "golden rule" ratio of what the rest of the measurements would be I will be playing around more with pants / shorts after my baby so the bump isn't in the way and showing how after drafting one can measure and adjust for the front and back rise, etc.

Your lutterloh book looks like mine with a hundred little pieces of sticky note. LOL
Haha yes! Trying to track all the projects I want to do
They are great, Thank you for posting x
Thanks for watching 🥰
Beautiful shorts Amelia!
Thank you! 🥰
Fantastic video Amelia!!! They turned out beautiful!!!
Thanks! Can’t wait to see yours!
This is exactly what I have been looking for. We are spoilt with the hand-holding patterns published by the 'indies', but I think Lutterloh could do more to promote this fantastic system. I look forward to your next video. Thanks and best wishes.
I agree totally Kerstin
Totally brilliant Lutterloh project video - thank you so much! More please when your health, time and mummy-duties allow. This is exactly what these patterns need!
Oh wow, thank you so much! Yes my friend Kris (SewNotes) and I plan to put out more and more Lutterloh videos because we were disappointed that there weren't many out there when we first looked at the system. I will be knocking out some more before baby arrives and then hoping to dive in a lot more in the fall and winter :)
Thanks Amelia! I really enjoy these types of videos!!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video Amelia!!

Where can I get the pattern from
I just bought this system, too. I'm not loving the fit on the vest, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. It billows out at the front of the armpits. I subscribed to both you and your friend so I can follow along and get tips and pointers. Thanks for your video!
Did you add seam allowance to the armpit area accidentally (assuming that you didn't sew a facing / hem the armholes)? Also, how much of a difference is there between your upper and full bust? If more than 2" difference I would suggest drafting the above waist points with your upper bust measurement and then doing a full bust adjustment to the vest
@@millicentjoysewingpatterns9572 Thanks for your reply! I didn't add seam allowance to the armhole, but I did find that using my upper bust measurement instead of my full bust measurement helped. I didn't do a FBA, but the vest still seemed to fit fine. Then I made a shirt - I screwed up and made it out of woven instead of knit and had to add a keyhole closure so it would fit over my head (lol) and I did find the bust area to be a little tight. I might try making that same shirt, but drafting it using my full bust measurement just at the armhole area to get a more custom fit. Have you ever heard of this, using a combination of measurements? In my brain, it makes sense but I could be very wrong. :)
@@aimster2084 Yes I have seen other people use a mixture of measurements. The system is based off the "golden rule" of an average body being proportionate. But not everyone is proportionate. What you can do is after drafting to your upper bust - measure across the back and front pieces along the bust line (remembering to double to account for being around your whole body) and compare that to your full bust measurement. If it's not enough ease then you can do a FBA to give yourself the extra room you need there.
@@millicentjoysewingpatterns9572 Yes! I actually did just this last night- I added a FBA to that same pattern and am making the shirt over again to see the difference in fit. :) Thank you for all your help!
For the bust you only have to use the bust measurement and add seam allowance because if you use the hip measurement for the bottom you'll definitely have problems. Also, you'll have to either line or use facing around the body of the vest. Hope this helps you.
I'm looking forward to seeing where the Lutterloh System takes your sewing.
I love, love, Lutterloh! I have had the system for 16 years and just started sewing garments for myself. This system allows me to have a garment using my measurements, style, sleeves, skirt, dress, pants, and beachwear fitting me perfectly with minimal changes. Mostly, length, and hems. Thanks
Great vídeo! I loved the dart explanation in the end! Than you!
Thank you for watching! Depending on your body shape you may need to have larger darts in the back or in the front but basting them like this would at least give you a great starting point :)
Great video Amelia! I really liked how you explained the process and walked us through everything!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! Can't wait to see yours :)
Hey, welcome to UA-cam Amelia! I watched your video on IG but wanted to comment here. Just subbed to your channel:)
Thank you!! It's a learning curve but happy to stumble along :)
Definitely loving the patterns you've picked as your favorites! Especially that second one with the joggers and top - such a cute outfit!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks! Can’t wait to choose our first official project to tackle
