Japan has the most all-female bands by number and per capita than any nation. There are hundreds of all-female bands in Japan in many genres. But notably in J-Rock/J-Metal. This has been going on for around 40 years but there has been a huge uptick in the number of all-female bands since the mid-2000s. I also have to point out that Grunge was never a thing in Japan during the 1990s so metal didn't suffer as it did in the North American market. Lovebites are very influenced by 1980s British Power Metal like Iron Maiden. That is intentional. Power is their main genre but they also do Speed, Thrash, Progressive, Neoclassical, and Symphonic. All of their songs are sung in English. That too is intentional to appeal to a wider world audience. The singer Asami actually has a R&B and Soul background and was a ballet dancer for 15 years until she graduated from high school. It might be hard to understand her because of her accent and the pace she has to sing at in Power & Speed Metal doesn't help but she has been working hard on her pronounciations. However she is very clear to understand in slower paced ballad songs. But there is no doubt, among her peers of other Japanese metal vocalists, Asami's vocal power can effortlessly belt it out louder and longer than any of them.

Nuno Bettencourt got to see Lovebites live when Extreme were touring Japan in September 2023. He is a fan of the band and knew the talents of the two lead guitarists but was more wowed with the drummer Haruna. The blonde guitarist Midori considers Nuno as one of her inspirations.

As far as female metal bands here besides Kittie, there was The Runaways back in the 70's, and Vixen in the 80's.

What if you see in this band what many professional musicians, singers, producers and just metal lovers with many years of experience have suddenly discovered in it?! Cool! You guys are from SoCal. I literally live in Hollywood, CA and I saw LOVEBITES live at The Echoplex last year and was able to get a photo with them during their meet and greet session after the show. Seeing them live in video is one thing. Seeing them perform live up close in an intimate club setting is a whole other powerful experience! 🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾 I hope they make it back to the US in the near future. I’ve also seen a few other all female Japanese bands perform live in Los Angeles (NEMOPHILA at The Echoplex, BAND-MAID at The Belasco, HANABIE. at The Whisky A GoGo, and hardcore punkers OTOBOKE BEAVER at The Belasco). And they all were awesome shows! As far as newer modern Rock/Metal bands go, LOVEBITES and Brazil’s all female old school blackened death metallers CRYPTA (whom I’ve also seen live 3 times in LA over the past couple of years) are tied as my current top favorites.

All-female bands are a major trend in Japan presently. This trend really has exploded over the last ten years. There was a female group, Destrose, that broke up and “seeded” several metal bands including this one. This scene has mixed up with the Babymetal scene and Bandmaid scene… Also, while it is a trend now, that is not to say it’s really “new” either. Japan has had all-female rock bands since the Eighties with Show-Ya and others. As for Lovebites (which is my favorite) I get the feeling that the group grew out of a study of historical metal groups, distilling Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeath, Helloween, etc, then mixing their own stuff. They sing in English, I feel, because it is the “most authentic” choice. In fact, some of their lyrics are cartoonishly masculine, including this song. (And leave it up to a non-English band to pedantically use an adverb like “Solitarily” , unaware that “Solo Stands the Soldier” would be easier for English speakers to say)

These ladies have over 60 songs and there are more than just power metal in their discography, it is well worth going deeper down the rabbit hole for the amazing music they have to offer. The vocals were an adjustment I had to make when I was first exposed to this band but soon got to like it very much, Asami is an incredible singer as well as a front woman for the band. My favorite band. Best metal band I have heard in decades. They’re incredibly talented. Asami sings in English. Getting used to her accent is something that comes with listening to more of them, but if you don’t like power metal, they may not be the band for you. They do a fair bit of thrash, but I’d mainly say they are power metal.

There are many all-female bands in Japan, ranging from metal to jazz rock. (I must say, the level of technical skill of Japanese female musicians is very high and they are practically not inferior to male musicians.) But among rock and metal bands (of various styles) Lovebites still stand out and, one might say, are in proud solitude. There is no other band as epic and pretentious. In this they are head and shoulders above all others. In addition, they produce only the highest quality music product. This applies to both studio work and live performances. In the eight years of its existence, the band has released eight concert DVDs/blu-ray, with the ninth coming out in March. The Lovebites music itself, music videos, and live performances are all at the highest global level. Watch their recently released official Judgement Day music video to imagine what an audio visual masterpiece is.

LOVEBITES and many other all female bands out of Japan (THERE ARE MANY) are a culture shock to main stream media fans of the U.S. They to me are a breath of fresh air to reviving the metal/rock scene in which many rock band's these days lack in talent from the U.S... Since the 90 s I focused on listening to bands out of Europe and now Japan as the new DAD ROCK 2.0 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺💪🤘🤘🤘🤘

English is spoken in the US isn't it ???? 🤷‍♂ . There are AT LEAST20 female bands in Japan who are better than anything male or female in the US or Europe ( with a few exceptions ) - there's a reason these ladies have just been voted the Best Power Metal Band in the World for 2024 in a poll of 40k people - and by a landslide with more votes than all the other bands combined . They are one of the most eclectic Metal bands in the world - for instance the piano ( that you thought was an " aesthetic " ) is an integral part of many of their songs . I'd recommend listening to more of their stuff and if you're still damning them with faint praise after that then perhaps it's back to Motley Crue 😉
