It's kind of a lot to set up if you're just starting out and probably hard to put in a single comment but I managed to get a complete set of free tools to do the job :) The keyword is distortion/overdrive. That's the effect that makes the guitar sound rock/metal. It's usually an effect box, some amps come with it pre-built. There's a bit more to it but you can probably look up some videos explaining the basics. If you can't use your amp for that then you'll need some kind of audio interface. The one I listed in the description is pretty cheap and comes with software that allows you to simulate an amp and a lot of effects. It's probably the easiest way to start out especially since you can just download pre-made tones from a website and go from there. That's what I did at first :) But if you want to dive deeper into it (and already have an interface) you can read up on DAWs, VSTs, amp sims and effect sims. I got most of my current tone from a single youtube tutorial "FREE metal guitar tone 2020" it does a pretty good job explaining how to set all this up. Good luck!

Not much more than the video, I cut the stream short because the game was crashing, and the beta over here was very early in the morning anyway (yay EU)
