Fishing reports, tips, techniques and general "how to" knowledge for fishing and DIY projects.
I have grown up in SWFL, boated, surfed and fished local waters for decades.
In the fall I will most likely transition to college football.
I will also be using my Mavic MIni a lot and posting videos and photo I take with it.

Post Hurricane Milton Fishing
finally got a chance to get back out on the water and test out the new 2024 GMC Sierra with the 2.7L turbo to see how it handles towing my boat. I also wanted to get the robalo Cayman out and run her as she has sat for a few weeks.
I put in at Matlacha Community Park and headed north to Bokeelia to fish Pine Island Sound.
The water was DIRTY form Hurricane Milton so I threw the ol standby for dirty water the 1/4 Oz Johnson gold spoon and WHAM....the snook could not resist it.

Fishing offshore and inshore in one day

I wanted to take the robalo Cayman 226 and run out to the Edison reef off Sanibel, but once I got out of the bay I was met with rougher than expected conditions. I switched plans and fished the Causeway reef much closer. Was still a rough ride out. Could have been a better day off shore but still had fun and caught plenty of fish. Decided to call it offshore and hit one spot on my back to Matla...

Finally got a chance to get backout fishing. Although it was HOT was well worth it. Left out of Matlacha Community park way before dawn and ran around Bokeelia into Pine Island Sound. I left early enough that it was still dark when i finally arrived at my spot. Fished a little set of Mangroves that was surrounded by oyster bars close to deeper water. I started off with the Moonwalker and then finally it seemed like a light switch was flipped.....cast after cast NADA,..then BOOM...red and a...

Another good day out in Pine Island Sound on the Robalo Cayman 226. Left out of Matlacha Community park and ran north to fish the sound. Tried top water in the morning with Salt Strong's Moonwalker, similar to the Heddon Super Spook Jr and didn't have much luck. Switched to a tactic that I don't use that often, Live Bait. Hit up a grass flat and chummed up some white bait and with a couple thro...

The fish that the dolphin got was not the trout I released....it was a large Majorrra. I make it a point not to release fish where a dolphin can get to them especially if being stalked by a dolphin. All trout were caught on the Slam Shady color jerk bait and the red was my old Go To the Johnson Solver Minnow 1/4 oz spoon in gold color. copy write free music: Your Adreline: Music from #Uppbeat (...

Cracked mine today - I may take a “crack” at it with your method. Great video and love that you left in the hard lessons.
@justinvisser2702 hope is come out well. Left it in as it was a learning experience so someone else doesn't make the same mistake.
What price did you get the boat & trailer for? I'm going to look at a 2015 Robalo Cayman 226 tomorrow. Thanks
@RobertLeveronne right at 50k
Really nice boat you have. Nice catches too.
When you’re-trying to remove drips or runs always use a cork block with the abrasives, you just can’t keep your hand flat enough to stop burning through!! Great series though and greetings from the UK 👍🏻
Thank you for the advice, I know I should have used some sort of sanding block.
@@residentdawgfishing5424 Every day is a school day, excellent final job though 😀

I really like the kill switch access hole you did. Smart idea. Great job and video. Thanks for sharing. 👍🎣🚤😊
Thanks, Glad it helped!
Don't get too comfortable with the new one because it will fail in 1-2 years. I am on my 2nd one in 3 years. I'm calling bullshit on Power-Pole. Shame on them when they know this issue exists but will not fix it. I'm sure that thing is Made in China.
I'm looking at this model now myself are still loving it ? any drawbacks?
@damonmd3 my only complaint is I wish I had the 250 SHO....not for top end speed but to jump up on plane quicker. Other than that....I love it! Does great inshore...I have run it 25 miles off shore, handles anything I can throw at her.
@@residentdawgfishing5424 awesome thanks !!!
If im correct Tannehille State park also has trout best of luck!!

@KLartrandM so was I..I went into this video expecting the Brave 4 would be better.
I found your video looking for more info on this boat and how it would handle offshore duty. I am in Pt. Charlotte and have to go across Charlotte Harbor and through Boca Grand pass. This seems like the perfect boat for Bull and Turtle bay plus offshore on good weather days. Definitely going with the 250 SHO if I pull the trigger on it. Thanks for the good information!
@chuckurso593 definitely the 250 SHO is the motor that should be in the 226..I have cut across the Harbour in some pretty sketchy days and never batted an eye in the 226. Glad it helped. I absolutely love my 226
Thank you! Once they replaced my lanyard remote because I wasn’t getting a signal from it, but I was getting a signal from the mounted remote. Their customer service is first class. Your other video helped me a lot. Keep em coming!
@wildncrazyguytv glad to hear the video(s) helped...thanks for the support!
Insulated foam cooler would probably maintain water temperature. Maybe if to cold will kill them. Not an expert, just my opinion. But you did great with the outcome
@richardvila3 thank you for the suggestion

Good job. However, as a Gheenoe owner, i dont teally understand loading them down eith electronics. The simplicity is what i love about them.
@morganghetti thanks...I do kinda agree with ya, they are great being simple...the more stuff you add dose affect the performance for sure...they are weight sensitive for sure.
If i leave the shrimp inside my house, would I still need to keep the water cold??
@MrGabys91 not as cold.as I did, my garage was well into to upper 90's, summer is SWFL. If I kept them in the AC I would not have bothered with ice packs.
Why did the oil look dirty when he checked it after he was done. 12:42 ?
if you are talking about the very tip, the angle of the dipstick made it look that dark color, but the oil up to the full mark is nice and clear.
Been trying to figure why they wouldn’t illuminate for weeks. Thank you good sir!
@bennettblackmon2858 glad it helped!
@@residentdawgfishing5424 thanks, just did it tonight while on the boat. Finally said it’s time and searched on youtube
You can try a few different things, replace the breaker with a 30 amp breaker so you can run ⅛" E7018 at 120 amps or drop down to 1/16" E7018 at a lower amperage
Thanks for the advice....I am new to welding and any info is greatly appreciated.
Great video. Thanks!

What paint did you use?
Wasn't paint at all....I used gel coat, then Kiwi grip for the Grey areas.....I think that was in part 2
I made it on an episode of Resident Dawg Fishing!!
cause you finally caught fish....lol
How many liters for the engine
5 quarts (4.7 liters)
@@residentdawgfishing5424 Thank bro
I have a newbie question please. Is the water that pees out of the little hole on the side just to indicate that the cooling system is working, or is that actually the entire output of the cooling circuit? Also, does it flow even if the thermostat is closed because the engine is cold? I'm halfway through doing the job, waiting on parts, and I couldn't see anywhere else the water could escape (but I am new to outboard maintenance) thanks. Simon.
the peeing is the water exiting from the system, if you hook it up and run it it will start cold then warm up as the engine does. if your outboard is not peeing there might be something clogging the pee tube, use heavy mono to try and unblock it, The thermostat directs it to the area that needs to be cooled, if the thermostat is closed it simply by passes the heads and exits out the pee tube,
@@residentdawgfishing5424 I understand. Thank you very much. Good fishing. Simon.

Just ordered this little machine i have an 80amp chicago stick welder that is only good with 3/32 rods gonna try 1/8 rods with this one on 110v see what happens
I saw a video where they ran 1/8 rods with it, but on 220V. I am sure it will run them, but on 110 you may not get good penetration.
@@residentdawgfishing5424 I got it in yesterday ran a 6011 1/8 rod on 106amps did good and didn't trip my breaker..the machine only comes in 110v at least the one I got did

I am sure they have good trips and bad trips....it's fishing afterall...but they should adapt to the conditions to give clients the best expirence.
I'm having major issues with my spotlock on the Ultrex. The foot pedal is also giving me fits. They are going to repair it under warranty but I'm waiting until my major season is over. Mine is not a voltage issue. I recommend going to a 36v lifepo4 battery. I did it 2 years ago and took about 150 pounds out of my boat. Can't tell you how much better it is than my old setup with 3 12v lead acid batteries and moving that single 30 pound battery beats heck out of those lead acid. I also found that all the newer fish finder units are very voltage sensitive. I went to a dedicated 50ah lifepo4 battery for all 3 and haven't had a single issue like I was having using my cranking battery. I'll be in Clewiston next week for 10 days fishing Okeechobee. Good to know about that place in Ft Myers because Ckewiston doesn't have much.
I want to upgrade to Lipo....but the cost is keeping me from pulling the trigger....one day I will. Thanks for the info.
@@residentdawgfishing5424 I went with Nexgen battery and a Dakota 18A charger 2 years ago. It's amazing how fast I can recharge. I'm still running a flooded battery for cranking. I have an older 21 ft bass boat that came with a 24v trolling motor. I added another battery at 60 pounds and Minn Kota Talon anchors at around 50# each. That extra weight made it very difficult to get on plane when I had a fishing buddy. Changing the battery solved that issue by removing 150# or so. I paid $950 for the battery 2 years ago. I went with the 40AH battery and have never run it down below 40% during a full day of fishing Okeechobee and I have never had any issues with my battery. We aso fish heavy river current on the Chattahoochee and it has been flawless. My buddy went with Ionic 50AH and he is having some issues with it charging fully.

Nice catches brother! Followed you from the BG MQ video! Picked up 3000/4000 myself! 😂 Hope to be fishing red fish later.. not sure where to start- coming from Charlotte.
Thank you for the support!! Really appreciate it.
Structure.....oysters, grass docks, mangroves....the more the better in area that has both shallow and deep water close. Summer fish shallow early and deeper later when it warms up....that is the basics
@@residentdawgfishing5424 Thanks for the quick response! Where abouts do you primarily fish? Subbed!
I am in SWFL, Mostly Pine Island Sound/Charlotte Harbor area
Just picked up a 3000 & 4000 from a local shop! Trying to decide what rods to pair them with. Already have 7’6” St Croix Triumph Inshore- this may go with 3000. Not sure about 4000. Can’t wait to get out and fish drums!
I like the TFO I paired mine with, The St Croix is a much higher end rod than the TFO.

Do you have to be in gear or neutral to drop the lower or does it matter?
I don't think it matters, the collar for he shift linkage moved up and down, so in neutral, it is easily accusable.

Excellent advise on this video! You MUST not make a mistake when you change your oil on a Pacifica! WHY does the manufacturer not want you to KNOW about every critical step in this procedure?!! The first oil change I had done on my 2020 Pacifica... even a professional shop did NOT KNOW how to place the filter housing gasket!!! If you don't pay attention, you could spend THOUSANDS of dollars on a new engine!!! ua-cam.com/video/euvnSPRxiRo/v-deo.html
Wow..that is a VERY in depth video on the O-ring....excellent info for sure. I did not know that was an issue, but I guess if you aren't paying attention you could very easily mess up. Thanks!
Try adding a weighed small mesh clothing bag as well. It will give the shrimp something to grab onto instead of sitting at the bottom of the bucket.
thanks for the info. I will try it.
Great to see the 226 offshore, looks like a good time with family. I am looking to purchase one but torn between the bay boat and a deeper V. How does the boat handle in rough water and offshore? Would you want to take it offshore regularity in SW FL, or get a center console instead? Thank you, keep the videos coming. Scott.
It handles rough water well, but again that also comes down to the Captain. Deep V versus bay Boat, that decision comes down to the style of fishing you enjoy. If offshore bottom fishing or trolling is your game than a Deep V is the way to go, much more " capable" offshore. But if you like fishing inshore and occasionally going off shore that bay boat is the ticket. Going offshore in a single engine boat is always a risk, I make sure I stay within the towing range of my on water towing service insurance. I would take it offshore frequently with out batting an eye. IMO the Cayman 246 is the perfect boat for this area, still a single engine, but big/Heavy enough to handle running offshore like a deep v but still only drafts 12" for inshore. Hope this helps.
