Leipung in Meiteilon(Manipuri) refers to a slightly raised area on the ground. Leipung-famba or to sit around a Leipung is a traditional informal gathering of youths and elders alike in each Leikai (usually around a fireplace in winters) for casual gossips and exchanges on various lived experiences of ordinary folks. In the old days it also functioned as an institution for handing down traditional values, customs and practices to the younger generations. In the absence of written literature, it is a rich source of oral culture.
