I binged this entire series on Viki yesterday. It was absolutely amazing. Without spoiling anything, after watching this I can understand why the haters were in a huff. This series deals with real life shit. Even though I love a trope heavy BL, this isn’t that. I absolutely loved it but it did make my heart ache a lot. Even though it isn’t the typical BL I hope everyone at least gives it a chance and shows support. The haters can go kick rocks.

I was already onto this as soon as it was announced. I didn't expect the backlash that came soon after. Nam Yoon Su, the MC, is a very popular actor in Korea, so he already had a large fanbase. Also Kim Go Eun (the movie FMC) is a superstar so...Unfortunately SK is still very conservative and homophobic, so for an actor with such a good reputation and successful career to take such a role.🤭 I have seen him in a few different dramas and I always enjoyed his performances. So I want to support him even more now. I also had the novel on my tbr list for a few years, so now I have to read it soon.

I definitely planned on watching the show as soon as it was announced forever ago! The scriptwriter for this series is also the author of the novel it's based on. He's also a gay man so it's an own voices work as well and a best seller on top of that. Also, I think there are multiple reasons that this series had been getting more backlash from conservatives compared to other lgbt shows: 1) the actors in the show are popular and/or seasoned actors, not just small time kpop idols or new actors trying to make it in the industry by starring in BLs. The show also has a different director for every 2 episodes and there is at least one famous director here as well. 2) The series has been getting promoted like crazy. Multiple trailers, interviews, photoshoots for magazines with the cast and the most recent DAZED Korea shoot also has all the directors, the scriptwriter/author, and so on in the photoshoot as well. This certainly would put a show more on the radar of conservatives than other BL/queer shows that do not get promotion like that. 3) The South Korean government has a fund they can use to support the arts and they gave a sizeable chunk of money to support this project. Conservatives that protested were upset that their tax dollars were being used to "promote homosexuality" These are the reasons that I think there was the sudden backlash that was happening with small protests and why it's a series people should definitely support! I haven't had time to watch it yet but I will for sure

Unforgotten Night falls into the category of “delicious garbage” for me. Like it’s not good, the actors aren’t great or well-cast, but something about it kept me watching. It was just so laughably bad. 😂 I didn’t like Vice Versa either and I thought I was alone!

Force and Book are my weakness 😂

Now that I’m thinking about it I didn’t even finish the first episode of Laws of Attraction 😂

King Eternal Monarch is better than Hotel Del Luna too in my opinion.

27:09 If you loved Goblin I would highly recommend King Eternal Monarch Kdrama. It's not the masterpiece Goblin was but it was very good amazing supernatural elements fantastic acting and a killer soundtrack.

I watched Unforgotten Night in its entirety but I was also new to the BL world. If I would’ve watched it while it was still airing I probably would’ve stopped but I binged it 😂

I have a rule that if the show doesn't interest me in the first 10 to 15 minutes I'm not finishing the episode. This is because a lot of the shows that I've seen have episodes that are an hour long and I don't want to spend an hour on a show that I knew I didn't like 10 minutes in. I don't know if I'm just super picky or what but I drop most of the shows I start. It's usually because: 1) The way it's shot/lit is so ugly or boring that it's distracting. 2) The production value is low or nonexistent. I'm not apposed to watching shows that are low budget. One of my favorite shows, "Stay Still" from Hong Kong, was very low budget but it was beautifully done. 3) The acting is bad or awkward. A recent example I watched was "Bad Guy My Boss". Let me tell you, there was no life behind their eyes. Just so flat, wooden, and unconvincing. Side note, they need to stop casting people that are barely our of high school to be intimidating boss characters. 4) I hate the characters and not in a fun way. This is why I ended up dropping "DFF" 10 episodes in. Also, some of the acting/directing decisions took me out of it. Don't get me wrong the show has an interesting premise and the production is pretty good but it's a no from me. When I tell you there was not a single character that I liked. I'm not the type of person that needs every character to be a perfect angel, I love Vegas from KP and Korn from 4minutes for God's sake, but there was no one that I could root for or have fun with. A also I didn't finish the first episode of Kidnap because Q was so annoying and the actor wasn't giving what needed to be gave. 5) And finally, BAD AUDIO! I didn't realize how much bad audio got on my nerves until I had to deal with it. The two shows that come to mind first are "Love in the Air" and "Wandee Good Day". I watched "Love in the Air" because I heard people loved it so I wanted to give it a chance. But, Lord Jesus, I didn't like a single thing about it, except for Fort. He's a cutie. Rain, Sky, and Payu were meh. Fort was too young and cute to be playing a CEO. The only reason I liked Prapai better than the other characters was because they basically just had Fort play himself and he's just a likeable guy. The acting felt kinda bland and noncommittal. Scenes of high emotion felt forced. To the main point, the audio was absolutely horrendous. The levels were unbalanced, sometimes the audio was empty/no atmosphere sound aside from the dialog, audio was constantly going in and out, and music or sound effects drowned out the dialog. I tried to force myself through in the hopes that I would like it as much as other people did but it just became a chore and I dropped it 9 or 10 episodes in. The same audio issues with Wandee Good Day but the acting was a bit better. In one scene I think they forgot to add the sound effects so it was silent aside form the dialog and at one point Yoryak punches a dude and there is no impact sound. I swear the audio editors are asleep at the wheel at GMM. That company is to big to be overlooking these things. PS I did end up watching and finishing Love Sea and the audio was way better but the story was meh and the acting was still unconvincing. Fort was still a cutie patootie though.

Honestly I very rarely DNF a series that I’ve started just because my curiosity won’t let me stop. I still want to know how it ends. I finished Unforgotten Night even though, at the time, I thought it was pretty bad but I recently rewatched it on Viki and compared to some of the 🗑️🔥 we have gotten lately it actually wasn’t too bad 😂. I absolutely love Vice Versa and even though I’m slightly confused about your reasoning (cause they did in fact stay in the other world for the whole series up until the end) if you didn’t like it then it is what it is. I may be in the minority but I would rather creators stop watching something they aren’t enjoying than hate watching and giving negative reviews. Not to say shows shouldn’t get any criticism but I think purposely watching something people know they don’t enjoy and then saying it’s bad because they don’t enjoy it has lead to a lot of negativity in the BL community. Not everything has to be for everyone and luckily we are getting a lot more content to choose from now.

I think the only ones I loved that you dnf’d were laws of attraction and vice versa but your reasons seem similar to others I have seen say they didn’t finish it. A lot of the ones you DNF I didn’t start for the same reasons you didn’t finish them 🤣 not trying to persuade you BUT the reason I liked laws of attraction was it was VERY lakorn-eak, the campy telenovelaesk style drama style plays into my love of older Thai drama which was the reason I landed in the bl space in the first place! Charn was a mess for sure and his redemption ark was well written but you’re right they DID make him almost too unlikable at the start- I’ve always been a big fan of both Jam and Film so probably had more grace for that than I would have otherwise. Vice Versa I’ve always thought it’s lack of popularity was connected to the ONN of it all and the marketing of what their role was in the show, it’s interesting to hear you talk about story structure and world building as an issue- I can see what you are saying though the beginning felt as though they were trying to build a VERY complicated world and the movement between them (though obviously purposeful) relied on some later episodes to make it feel cohesive.

Was a little sceptical of his music as the lyrics say he did it on his own....helps when come from an extremely wealthy family. Probably wouldn’t really go with your normal content so not necessarily a reaction recommendation but I think you, as someone who loves to analyze, would enjoy going on the NF journey. NF is an American rapper, if you didn’t know, and most of his music is about his own mental health. The NF “journey” is what his fans call basically watching his music videos in storyline order cause most of them are connected and have a continuous storyline running through them. You do not necessarily need to watch them in order to understand them but they have a lot of Easter eggs for his fans if you know. My favorites are The Search, Leave Me Alone, Let You Down, and Hope.
