Final Fantasy XII took us back to Ivalice and gave us the gambit system. I have almost no critiques of FFXII beyond that it didn't resonate as deeply with me as other FF stories.

I always use “Tee-dus” for his pronounce name
I loved the cover of Toroias music!
XIV is the best ny far.
I think i'll stick to ff4, thanks
I played FF6 (Pixel Remaster) this winter and really enjoyed finally getting to dive into this one for almost 2 weeks and immerse myself in what I knew to be a highly esteemed adventure with one of the most memorable villains, and indeed it lived up to that... I agree the music is some of Uematsu's best too... Also I remember thinking about just the fact of soldier's casually hosting dog fights in one of the villages at one point as an example of of how dark FF actually can get sometimes, at a glance you might associate the series with wonder and moogles and certain exciting staples, but there's really so much of humanity's darkest tendencies being documented in the series as well (FF14 contains some of the craziest instances of this btw Drew, I know you loved Stormblood which had a few of them and you know there'll be more)... Anyway, I've enjoyed this countdown a whole lot and I'm happily at a loss for what FF you haven't listed yet (I assumed this one all along) so it'll be cool to see which one gets that #1 spot
way to shove social politics into something that has nothing to do with it
People existing isn't politics ya dork
It’s a jrpg so I always go by the Japanese pronouncing seeing as it’s their game
Fun video
Wow…what a list.
You’re getting me all emotional in this moment.
Rad video
So THAT’s what you look like!!!!!
Underwhelming I know
I keep reading how you can set the abilities of Gogo and how "amazing" he is being using at the Colosseum. I have can not and have not found how to set his abilities or am I missing something? Also this video's theory is grasping at straws. Unknown gender does not mean Non-binary it simply mean unknown. Also Gogo's armor set is very limited in FF6.
I love FFII so much. I'm one of the few in the world that places this in their top 5 FF games. I love the OST, the story is good for it's era as well. There is even a mini book called Nightmare's Labyrinth that expands on how the Emperor became evil and gives more lore of the world. I love the character designs in this game more than any other FF. The balance between physical and magical force is really balanced. I love how powerful Level 7+ status spells are and how awesome a well trained Ultima is.
This game was my favorite for years ever since I first played it in November 2003. These days I feel it is very flawed. I do not like that you cannot ever defeat Beatrix in battle. I mean I know the party eclipses her power by the time the Soul Cage battle occurs but it would have been nice to defeat her at some point. I do not like how they made Tetra Master such an un rewarding mini game. The only prize you get for it is the Rebirth Ring. Compare that to the rewards of Triple Triad. I think they should have gives rewards like Potions, gil, up to summon gems, and maybe equipment for Treno matches that get better based on player rank of the one you defeat. Also, the fmvs had very bad sound equalizing and balancing. The FMVs have really low sound effects and overpowering music minimizing the impact of the scenes imho. The story is great and the character cast is awesome but it is no longer my number 1. it is more like my 3rd or 4th.
FFVIII is my #1 favorite FF title. It was also my first ever RPG I played seriously. I first started a game on this when my big bro insisted that I try it out in November 2001 when I was 13.5 years old. Ever since then I have played through the game 20 times!! On my first 2 playthroughs I had no idea how to break the junction system because I had no guides did not think to check the internet for that either they were blind play experiences. Some bosses on my initial plays really messed me up like... Diablos NORG Raijin 1st Edea 2nd Raijin 2nd Mobile Type 8 Ultima Weapon Omega(actually I never fought him till my 3rd runthrough) Ultimecia People say magic is weak in this game but in reality it is very much not the case. Sure magic damage scales poorly with an increase in the mag stat but double and triple casting magic more than makes up for it. With 255 Mag/Defenses 0 status on foe/ and hitting weaknesses when applicable) and triple casting... Water will deal 16k damage to foes very weak to it. Aga class spells will do 12k up to 21k damage to foes weak to very weak to element. Tornado will do 17k MT damage to foes weak to wind. Quake will deal 18k MT damage to enemies weak to it. Flare will deal 12-13k damage(not great this spell should of had a higher power) Holy(same spell power as Flare but it can hit weaknesses) will do 16k up to 29997 damage to foe very weak to it!! Demi can do 29997 damage to high hp enemies like Malboro! Ultima will dish out 22k MT damage! Lastly, Triple Meteor annihilates foes for 43k damage. I actually love the story in this game and I am of the rare variety that actually loves the orphanage scene. The OST is so amazing. The FMVs are awesome as well probably because they actually hired Hollywood directors for creative input.
Thank you for making this video and sharing your thoughts! I totally agree with you. Final Fantasy XVI is incredible, and it does an amazing job at doing the things it set out to do. I love what Creative Business Unit 3 did with Final Fantasy XVI, and it actually so happens to also be one of my top favorite Final Fantasy games too.
This was an amazing video albeit as short as it was. I also adore Tina Branford. Her along with Reina and Vivi are my favorite FF characters or rather characters in VG history that I have been exposed to that is.
Thank you!
@@everythingisfinalfantasy You're welcome. I'm going to check out your other vids as well.
I agree for the most part, though I wouldn't write off all of the criticism as just wild rantings and ravings. In particular the criticism of not having a playable/customizable party was a pretty big detriment to the game. It didn't matter as much to me because I just really enjoyed Clive, but I know many of my friends weren't huge fans of him and their experiences suffered more than they would have in a more traditional 4 character party.
There are plenty of games where you play as just one character though. This is actually a really good example of critiquing the game not for what it was but for what some folks wanted it to be.
@@everythingisfinalfantasy Its not critiquing it for what I wanted it to be, I think its a valid critique to an issue they have already solved in the series. Very very few FF games feature a single protagonist and 16 is the only one with 1 controllable player. The critique isn't "this game should have had parties" the critique is that Clive comes across as a bland, brooding, stereotype to a lot of people, thousands I've heard express this sentiment. Some people also dislike other FF characters in previous games but can circumvent it by nature of there being other playable characters they can attach themselves to. I would still give the game a 9.5/10 but overall I don't think the game is immune to criticism and I think deflecting any and all criticisms by saying "oh you just wanted the game to be something else" is both intellectually dishonest and a bad faith argument as you automatically assume the critic isn't intelligent enough to form a true critique of a part of the game they didn't like.
@@yeetusdeleetus4697 11, 14, and 15 also only have one controllable player. Same with Crisis Core and plenty of other "spin offs." To me, it is no more valid to critique FF16 for not having party mechanics than it would have been to critique FF7 for not being medieval. Every game before it was, but it did something the series had never done before. It also removed completely the importance of each character in battle. The critique that Clive isn't a good character is a totally separate one and a perspective I simply and absolutely do not agree with on any level.
@@everythingisfinalfantasy 11 and 14 are literally MMOs lmao, it seems like you are not interested in good faith discussion, or you are not educated enough in the franchise to even have this discussion. I'm assuming you just got here this year or last and played through them all and are still in the honeymoon phase. Anyway have a great day!
@@yeetusdeleetus4697 This is such a profoundly silly thing to say. I've been playing the series since 1994. Amazing you can go from "you're arguing in bad faith" to inventing nonsense out of thin air.
I feel both games has some serious pacing issues but the gameplay and characterisation of its main cast is the peak of the series. It’s the gold standard for remakes and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When it comes to Final Fantasy theres no such thing as controversial
It its all controversial I guess none of it is lol.
long time fan, and also one of my favorites 🤫
I was hoping for Zidane in top 1 but got surprised with my boy Vivi hahaha, love to see it
Close! lol
Yep, this is what I imagined someone with such shitty takes would look like.
I know I’m kind of commenting a lot later than others did, but I just want to say thank you for making this video and sharing your thoughts! I wholeheartedly agree that all of these criticisms that you tackled are pretty weak criticisms. You are correct in saying that criticisms can and should be criticized too. It’s honestly only fair, since people are so quick to criticize video games, movies, books, and other kinds of art. Just as people have a right to criticize art, so too do they have a right to criticize criticism, and to disagree on things. But all in all, I personally agree with you on pretty much everything you said here in this video. Thank you for being willing to stand up and voice your thoughts. I found them to be very refreshing and I appreciate you sharing them.
Appreciate you!
Edit: the comment I was replying to was deleted, so there's no context to the following comment anymore: Original: Cloud doesn't wear a dress as a joke, he wears it as a way to present as female as that's the only way to get into Don's mansion - Drag. Faris is a woman trying to blend into a male pirate gang - Because of patriarchy. Gogo is a mysterious being. Some say they're Darill, Setzer's lost love (woman) others say Gogo uses the masuline form "ore" (I) in the Japanese version, maybe they're pulling a Shiek. Hence we're forced to use non-binary pronouns to describe them. So what exactly are you trying to argue here? That the 90s, created by Japanese people, who have acknowledged "wild and crazy LGBT+ people" in their media without issue, somehow weren't thinking about gender (or the lack thereof) when crafting Gogo? When there are plenty examples of drag queens, trans people, and gender benders throughout Japanese history, animation, games, and media??
They/them causing may/hem
Peanut brain take We dont know Gogos gender because theyre the ultinate mimic and we dont know who they are. We dont even know if Gogo is human, thats how dedicated they are to their craft. Thats literally it.
Check you out using proper pronouns!
Gonna level with you, this sounds like an incredible definition of non-binary to me.
@@everythingisfinalfantasy Unknown gender =/= Non-binary I feel like you already know this but are just causing a fuss for views, which is pretty sad.
@@the_only_andy Then you really dont understand what NB is. Which is fair, its a silly concept, but Gogo doesnt match it.
@@KotoCrash I think purposefully not confirming fully to either gender expression is pretty on point really. Gogo is probably more specifically going to fit genderfluid but hey that's nailing it down closer than the more broad non-binary.
Oh Lord. I don’t understand how people use their sexuality (or lack thereof) as their sole identity. They must be the most boring people in the entire world.
There's nothing sexual about being non-binary.
Where did you see that happen? Point to it in the video.
One of the most idiotic videos I've seen in a while
Thanks for the views and the comment!
looks like the discord server warriors found this old video.
@@jonahsahn Shit popped up in my feed after listening to FF music. Its idiotic yes
It’s highly unlikely that they would be non-binary as mental illnesses weren’t quite as highly promoted during the time period of the conception of this character.
Oh look the bigots have found the video...
Japan has openly accepted non binary characteristics and people since long before the mid 90s when this character was conceived in the mind of its Japanese developers. Non binary, trans and characters in drag often are presented in Japanese media with no commentary or further acknowledgement.
Kiss your sister
You nailed some really good points here. I agree, and what really sets it back is the lack of availability. It's almost a crime at this point.
Seriously though. They are stealing.....from themselves lol. We will give you our money SE. Please take it?
Yes
I wish I wish That there was more in-depth lore in Regards to Ultima And the Lucavi
Of course many people have not play that because the on running joke is that only people who hate themselves play Final Fantasy
This is a good one.
Meanwhile in Dissidia; Cloud: So… You use magic, an empire wants you kept under lock and key because of you’re the last of your kind, and you really like flowers? Terra: Yep, that’s right. Cloud: *silently chuckles* Terra: Huh? What’s so funny? Cloud: Nothing, it’s just… You remind me of someone.
Quina is either a he or a she and it's usually up to the players interpretation. I played the game years ago and I also saw Quina as a girl, hence why I refer to Quina as a her
You don't get to decide other people's gender lol
Great game. I like your analysis.
Part of me doesn't like how they're deciding to do the Bahamut strains for different games in remake you get base Bahamut but in rebirth you get Bahamut risen which is just Neo Bahamut. So I guess in the next game we're going to get Bahamut zero but he's going to get a different name all together
Why, if you don't mind my asking? That seems awesome.
MUSIC BY PABLO ENVER!!!! Forgot to edit that last part in...
You should of put it at seven
Still and always my no.1, even if it was the 3rd I played as a teenager. (FFIV was first and then Tactics) Just loved every second of it and it honestly saved me
FF7 was the game that got me into JRPGs and all the things you mentioned about Cloud also resonated with me. That’s why it’s my #1 FF. But I can appreciate your takes and where it falls on your list.
You can put Final Fantasy seven as your number one favorite that’s too obvious
You should play the pixel remaster, as it allows you to turn on boosters.
I share the same opinions on this game as you.
I’ve always loved this game. Believe it or not it’s in my top ten.
Getting to revisit Spira through a different perspective was amazing.
