    Allahuakbar. Im first generation Gambian American. My family is muslim but wasn't deep in teaching me knowledge and making me pray 5 times daily. when I turned 26, I read the Quran in English and saw for myself, Islam is the truth. Im 28 now, it took me two years to stop majority of my major sins, partying, zina, intoxicants, and let me tell you. Repent and LEARN true islam (not cultural). PRAY 5 times a day, and watch how Allah will change your world before your eyes... There is no truth or God besides Allah,.

    EXCELLENT TALK Ladies - While every human is wonderfully made by God, moral of the story; man-made racism/colourism continues to exist...giving some privileges over others. BW 2 said it right - Self-Love/value starts from within first and foremost,.. but lets NEVER forget that there's a WHITE/western dominated system in place (like BW 4 said - it's "their land" we live in...), meaning people are victimised on a daily basis,... so for those boasting how highly favoured they are, we SHOULDN'T label those on the subjective lower-end, suggesting their feelings as a "Victim mentality" - keep most/all energy focussing on challenging the root problem of colourism (white supremacy), and not being proud or content just cuz the W-Man/women LETS some of "you in" "their" clubs/places. Lets love ourselves black family, and like a few of the ladies mentioned - make, build, sustain and encourage DAILY our OWN black places/lands/love - Like we used to before you know who dominated. Time changes, so will systems. STAY BLESS #MDTV #MARIAMDIABY

    Not them tryna tell the actual dark skin girl how she should feel and what colorism is. They don’t actually want to hear, understand or sympathize with dark skin women. Maybe Ny was shy fair enough but if you get a dark skin woman who is really scarred by colorism and allow her to really tell you her experiences you lots mouths would drop to the floor and half of these conversations about “victim mentality” would have never have happened. How is the dark skin girl talking the least in a video about colorism is literally proving colorism bro… you lot cut her off every single time and barely included her when she has the fucking answers here! But no you talked over her and corrected her about her own damn experiences! This is society guys, constantly throw dark skin women in the shadows and ignoring their needs, experiences and emotions smh

  • @venuslove-i1v
    @venuslove-i1v 11 місяців тому

    The root of colorism IS racism. If you ever looked at racist caricatures in the past of black people there was always a correlation between dark skin and the racist perception of black people. These things are not mutually exclusive. Racism has shaped our modern perception of beauty as well. Certain features are considered attractive depending on what dominates the consciousness of beauty. In our modern world is white westerns standards. This means anyone that falls outside of the lines in anyway will be blocked from levels of privilege. It doesn't have to be this way systemically. It has only stayed because the ones benefiting from oppression are benefiting. The moment it hurts them, suddenly you will see more dismantling it. To minimize colorism to whether someone can get in the club or party is ignoring the fact that many opportunities to work, to connect with higher people, to find love, or even to be protected are usually influenced by the color of your skin even in these "parties". The issue is that we allow it because we think it is natural when it is not. It is a perception that is shaped. The more we call it out and speak out on it the better we can avoid letting our biases affect the livelihood of others.

      That's why it's pointless to have these conversations with light skin women because they will never acknowledge their privilege. It's the same way white people never acknowledge *their* privilege because they benefit from it and don't want to give up that privilege.

    Well done Miriam for re centring the conversation constantly. It was clear that grace and jasmine can not have informed educated discussions. Saying that ‘God made everyone beautiful’ in a conversation about colourism is merely absurd. That argument is flawed as for one , not all viewers/ people that have experienced colourism are religious , so they will not be able to see from that perspective and for two given how generic that statement is that can be applied to ANY debate when it comes to discussing appearances. The topic here is colourism but it seemed some of them were very dismissive. Jasmine saying She’s never experienced colourism … okay so tell us why ? Elaborate on how your skin tone has worked in your favour , like Stephanie did in depth. The lady in the hat touched on this how she was favoured in her family , however for the duration of the topic contributed nothing valuable. Saying ‘go where you’re appreciated’ is also very insane. The problem at hand is why should there be rules and regulations on where dark skin people can go / enter ? Why is there circumferences put on dark skin people as to where they are / aren’t appreciated? That in itself is a problem , however again brushed under the rug with a flimsy ‘ go where you’re appreciated’. That is a weak ass argument. I would’ve definitely loved to hear more from Naomi and her experiences as she didn’t seem to have enough talk time.

  • @Vanessa-ki1yl

    A lot of “colourism is real and wrong” and then straight after “colourism is comparison and comparison should stop”. This is what you can call confusion and a genuine misunderstanding of what deep rooted, subconscious discrimination is and how influential colourism is and has been. Well done Mariam for recentering the conversation each time - which was not about racism or being in white spaces. Grace/Jasmine have a very insular view point… she’s happy to go to places to have fun but other people shouldn’t bother if they aren’t “wanted” there, rightfully, everyone wants to experience fun in different places. Using their logic and ideology, should we stop applying for higher paying jobs in white spaces, because we know we aren’t “wanted” in but we will be tolerated in… at the end of the day we get our pay check and will go on to sustain ourselves. Why should we think darker skinned women need to limit their options, why are the darkest women in the room being talked over, why are we portraying that the favour fairer skinned women get from colourism can be rubbed out by the comments or beliefs darker skinned women could have. The over sexualisation of fairer skinned women is definitely recognised but ultimately needs to be addressed with men, and that segways into patriarchy and toxic masculinity. Nay and Alaina need more space to talk.

I would also love to see Alaina back to speak more about her experiences being someone with albinism. People should really educate themselves before speaking on something with such conviction, especially when you don’t experience it and go as far as saying this is victim mentality. @18:56 Just a quick side note about the point Grace made about Dani Leigh making the yellow bone song and just to add some context to it. I see the point Grace was trying to make in terms of the reaction to Beyoncé making a song called “brownskin girl” compared to Dani Leigh “Yellow bone” song. First it’s important to acknowledge that they’re not really good comparison to make. Beyoncé made the “brownskin girl” song for the lion king movie soundtrack which had heavy African/afrobeats influence. The aim of that song was to simply up lift black women most importantly brown/darkskin because of the deep rooted history of darker skin being looked down on and ridiculed throughout history while more lighter skin or anything with close promximity to whiteness is praised. By Beyoncé a lighter skin black woman who acknowledges and recognise that her skin tone has benefitted her in her career/life singing a song like ‘brownskin girl’ is big thing because it shows unity amongst black women and recognise each others struggles from all sides and skin tones. Now Dani Leigh is completely different situation and context. When Dani Leigh released the preview for Yellow bone, at the time she was in an on going beef with her then on & off bf Dababy baby mama Meme who is darker skin black woman. In her song Dani specifically says “yellow bone is what HE wants” which got negative backlash for numerous reasons. One being people took the lyrics as Dani directly coming at Dababy’s BM saying he wants her over his BM because she’s lightskin “yellow bone” so in a way showing she thinks she better because of her skin tone and why Dababy or men in general wants her. Another issue was Dani Leigh using the term yellow bone or “red bone” which refers to a lighter skin BLACK or Mixed Black woman which Dani Leigh is not at all. Dani Leigh tried to say she never intended the song to be offesive to black women and made the song as way to praise lighter skin women but it’s hard to believe that when the lyrics were not really uplifting at all. It was just implying that she was uplifting her skin tone because of how she preferred by black men. Just because she says that wasn’t her intention to offend a large group of people doesn’t mean she ever at least considered how people would interpret the song.

    I loved this conversation! However I think it’s clear who understands what light skin privilege is and what pretty privilege is … there is a BIG difference and as black women is important to know the difference. There is no flex in being lightskin, its a flex to be beautiful. There is however, beauty in skin tone, i.e the richness of your colour, but the actual fact of being lightskin shouldn’t be a flex. Beauty is subjective, skin tone is not. Skin tone is such a specific feature , for example, it’s the same as someone saying only girls with blue eyes or a certain shade of blue can skip the line. All the women in this video are beautiful but they don’t look the same, to me that’s the difference in pretty privilege ❤

    • @onyx081
      @onyx081 9 місяців тому

      That's a cute kumbaya statement but the reality of the world is that people automatically equate light skin with being beautiful, especially in comparison with someone with dark skin. If you were to take two women with the same exact features and make one light skin and the other dark skin, people will automatically think the light skin person is more beautiful based on nothing but skin tone.

      Colorism is pervasive in the healthcare system, judicial system, employment progression etc. If you even want to go deeper black women have to also deal with misogynoir. We need to re-educate ourselves and ensure we are give space to those who are invisibled by colourism. Even in club environments being rejected on the basis of their skin is demoralising and manifests into deeper issues.

  • @flossyj7224

    I was excited for this podcast but I don’t understand the dismissive tone from certain people… I understand everyone has different experiences with colorism but to come on a podcast to speak about this topic but say you haven’t really experienced growing up etc.. then it’s not really an experience. In my opinion Jasmine and lauren come off very tone deaf and trying to center this on how God has made you x y & z, unfortunately that’s not the reality. I’m all for self love but you cant deny that certain people do excel because of things like featurism which was another thing that wasn’t really touched on. I could be the same colour as you but if someone has for e.g a smaller nose chances and I have a larger one, we’re looked at as different type of pretty. Honestly it’s not their fault they haven’t experienced things like this however the tone was very dismissive. For example saying you shouldn’t let things like this bother you… it’s hard to take advice or even hear an opinion from people that literally stated they havent really had experiences with colourism which they stated at the very start of the video. On a good note I loved the diversity in this video just wished we could’ve heard more from Naomi! Stephanie also had good points but I guess this is a controversial topic so everyone has different opinions..

    MOHAMMED WAS BEWITCHED/POSSESSED BY SATAN! Sahih al-Bukhari 6391 Narrated `Aisha: that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was affected by magic, so much that he used to think that he had done something which in fact, he did not do, and he invoked his Lord (for a remedy). Then (one day) he said, "O `Aisha!) Do you know that Allah has advised me as to the problem I consulted Him about?" `Aisha said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What's that?" He said, "Two men came to me and one of them sat at my head and the other at my feet, and one of them asked his companion, 'What is wrong with this man?' The latter replied, 'He is under the effect of magic.' The former asked, 'Who has worked magic on him?' The latter replied, 'Labid bin Al-A'sam.' The former asked, 'With what did he work the magic?' The latter replied, 'With a comb and the hair, which are stuck to the comb, and the skin of pollen of a date-palm tree.' The former asked, 'Where is that?' The latter replied, 'It is in Dharwan.' Dharwan was a well in the dwelling place of the (tribe of) Bani Zuraiq. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went to that well and returned to `Aisha, saying, 'By Allah, the water (of the well) was as red as the infusion of Hinna, (1) and the date-palm trees look like the heads of devils.' `Aisha added, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to me and informed me about the well. I asked the Prophet, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), why didn't you take out the skin of pollen?' He said, 'As for me, Allah has cured me and I hated to draw the attention of the people to such evil (which they might learn and harm others with).' " Narrated Hisham's father: `Aisha said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was bewitched, so he invoked Allah repeatedly requesting Him to cure him from that magic)." Hisham then narrated the above narration. (See Hadith No. 658, Vol. 7) 22.52-54 Kathir - Ibn Al KathirHow the Shaytan threw some Falsehood into the Words of the Messengers, and how Allah abolishedAt this point many of the scholars of Tafsir mentioned the story of the Gharaniq and how many of those who had migrated to Ethiopia came back when they thought that the idolators of the Quraysh had become Muslims, but these reports all come through Mursal chains of narration and I do not think that any of them may be regarded as Sahih. And Allah knows best. Al-Bukhari said, "Ibn `Abbas said,فِى أُمْنِيَّتِهِ(in his recitation (of the revelation).) "When he spoke, the Shaytan threw (some falsehood) into his speech, but Allah abolished that which the Shaytan threw in.''ثُمَّ يُحْكِمُ اللَّهُ ءَايَـتِهِ(Then Allah establishes His revelations.) `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said,إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَـنُ فِى أُمْنِيَّتِهِ(when he did recite (the revelation), Shaytan threw (some falsehood) in it) "When he spoke, the Shaytan threw (some falsehood) into his speech.'' Mujahid said:إِذَا تُمْنَى(when he did recite) "When he spoke.'' It was said that it refers to his recitation, whereas,إِلاَّ أَمَانِىَّ(but they trust upon Amani) means they speak but they do not write. Al-Baghawi and the majority of the scholars of Tafsir said:تَمَنَّى(he did recite) "Reciting the Book of Allah.''أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَـنُ فِى أُمْنِيَّتِهِ(Shaytan threw (some falsehood) in it) "In his recitation.'' Ad-Dahhak said:إِذَا تُمْنَى(when he did recite) "When he recited.'' Ibn Jarir said, "This comment is more akin to interpretation.''فَيَنسَخُ اللَّهُ مَا يُلْقِى الشَّيْطَـنُ(But Yansakh Allah that which Shaytan throws in.) The meaning of the word Naskh in Arabic is to remove or lift away. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said, "This means, Allah cancels out that which the Shaytan throws in.''وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ(And Allah is All-Knower,) means, He knows all matters and events that will happen, and nothing whatsoever is hidden from Him.حَكِيمٌ(All-Wise.) means, in His decree, creation and command, He has perfect wisdom and absolute proof, hence He says:لِّيَجْعَلَ مَا يُلْقِى الشَّيْطَـنُ فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ(That He (Allah) may make what is thrown in by Shaytan a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease) meaning, doubt, Shirk, disbelief and hypocrisy. Ibn Jurayj said:الَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ مَّرَضٌ(those in whose hearts is a disease) "The hypocrites, andوَالْقَاسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ(and whose hearts are hardened.) means the idolators.''وَإِنَّ الظَّـلِمِينَ لَفِى شِقَاقٍ بَعِيدٍ(And certainly, the wrongdoers are in an opposition far-off.) means, far away in misguidance, resistance and stubbornness, i.e., far from the truth and the correct way.وَلِيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْعِلْمَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَيُؤْمِنُواْ بِهِ(And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord, so that they may believe therein,) means, `so that those who have been given beneficial knowledge with which they may differentiate between truth and falsehood, those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, may know that what We have revealed to you is the truth from your Lord, Who has revealed it by His knowledge and under His protection, and He will guard it from being mixed with anything else.' Indeed, it is the Wise Book which,لاَّ يَأْتِيهِ الْبَـطِلُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلاَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ تَنزِيلٌ مِّنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ(Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it, (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah).) 41:42فَيُؤْمِنُواْ بِهِ(so that they may believe therein,) means, that they may believe that it is true and act upon it.فَتُخْبِتَ لَهُ قُلُوبُهُمْ(and their hearts may submit to it with humility.) means, that their hearts may humble themselves and accept it.وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَهَادِ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ إِلَى صِرَطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ(And verily, Allah is the Guide of those who believe, to the straight path.) means, in this world and in the Hereafter. In this world, He guides them to the truth and helps them to follow it and to resist and avoid falsehood; in the Hereafter, He will guide them to the straight path which leads to the degrees of Paradise, and He will save them from the painful torment and the dismal levels of Hell.

So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.” Sahih al-Bukhari 304 Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion." Sahih al-Bukhari 392 Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally and their reckoning will be with Allah." Sahih al-Bukhari 2943 Narrated Anas: Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) attacked some people, he would never attack them till it was dawn. If he heard the Adhan (i.e. call for prayer) he would delay the fight, and if he did not hear the Adhan, he would attack them immediately after dawn. We reached Khaibar at night. Sahih al-Bukhari 2541 Narrated Ibn `Aun: I wrote a letter to Nafi` and Nafi` wrote in reply to my letter that the Prophet (ﷺ) had suddenly attacked Bani Mustaliq without warning while they were heedless and their cattle were being watered at the places of water. Their fighting men were killed and their women and children were taken as captives; the Prophet (ﷺ) got Juwairiya on that day. Nafi` said that Ibn `Umar had told him the above narration and that Ibn `Umar was in that army. Sahih International: 5 :51 O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people. Sahih al-Bukhari 4557 Narrated Abu Huraira: The Verse:--"You (true Muslims) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind." means, the best of peoples for the people, as you bring them with chains on their necks till they embrace Islam. Sahih al-Bukhari 2977 Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle ﷺ said, "I have been sent with the shortest expressions bearing the widest meanings, and I have been made victorious with terror (cast in the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping, the keys of the treasures of the world were brought to me and put in my hand." Abu Huraira added: Allah's Apostle has left the world and now you, people, are bringing out those treasures (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ did not benefit by them). Surah 3:151: "We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve (all non-Muslims) …" Surah 2:191: "And kill them (non-Muslims) wherever you find them … kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers (non-Muslims)." Surah 9:5: "Then kill the disbelievers (non-Muslims) wherever you find them, capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush …" Sahih al-Bukhari 4557 Narrated Abu Huraira: The Verse:--"You (true Muslims) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind." means, the best of peoples for the people, as you bring them with chains on their necks till they embrace Islam. Apostasy is a Hudood crime. Execution is traditional punishment for both genders of Muslim apostates. Ja'fari - Male apostates must be executed, while a female apostate must be held in solitary confinement till she repents and returns to Islam. Sahih al-Bukhari 6922 Narrated `Ikrima: Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to `Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn `Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'"
