    That price is superb. I bought the fully enclosed unit and it cost me $3000 Canadian. Sold by TMG Industrial but all the same unit basically made by Dinking Corp in China....TMG, Genmax, Pulsar, Tomahawk, Home Depo unit...basically all the same unit with and without some basic features. This is a superb unit and works great for home backup through a Generlink switch with natural gas. Haven't tried propane yet but should work just fine.

      @@Outdoor_Prepper Only one thing I have a concern about is parts and service availability.. With Genmax you are probably ok, but my supplier TMG Industrial warranties their (and my )unit for one year. I can't imagine they are in any position to supply replacement parts either during or after the warranty. The maker of our units (ChongDinking Corp ) in China says they will honour the warranty so I suppose if I give them the part description and the name of the unit they should be able to supply parts and I do my own work.. From the UA-cam videos of this company, they would seem to be a reputable company in business and selling generator and other small equipment all over the world since 2010. I own 10 generators (don't ask) and the only ones the seem to take warranty and service properly are Champion and of course Honda. But I sold my Honda EU6500 because I don't want to run on gas anymore (and put $1000 back in my pocket) after the purchase of my 10500 unit.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 9 годин тому

      If I had it on eco and pulled less of a load it should run longer. Remember though, 1/4 load is based on the continuous running watts which on gas is 3600. So at 900 watts which is 1/4 load you’ll get more runtime. Thx for watching!

    Got a quick question. I run my 2021 dual fuel generator with propane too. However, my propane fuel regulator on the propane hose is just a small silver metal disk about 2.5 inches in diameter. What is that large black disc on your hose in addition to the small silver disk? Thanks.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper День тому

      Both of the regulators came like that with the generator. I’m not sure what the black one does but most generators have 2. Sometimes one is on the hose and the offer is hidden inside the generator case. Thx for watching!

    • @Outdoor_Prepper

      It's unfortunate that it's not available everywhere, but I agree California has some ridiculous restrictions on things. One small space heater took it to 25% capacity. I can see why it’s recommended to have a buddy heater. I have the enclosed Genmax tri fuel as my whole house generator. I have done two test runs and it ran perfectly. I tried using propane but it wouldn’t start. I will try it again, making sure I purge the line. I was hesitant to have the propane valve open for a long time before starting it. But I will give it another try. I read that NEC does not recommend using propane with the remote. So I pushed the push start.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 3 дні тому

      @@steffiejoe the space heater is just a tad over 1500 watts. In fairness the meter only has 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, so it was probably less than 25 percent but that was the only real metric to measure it. I definitely think if you’re going to use a space heater with any generator that you’re better off using Mr buddy heater as they take a ton of power. I did a review on Mr buddy heater on my channel - check it out if you haven’t seen it. A generator is better used to power other things outside of a space heater. Thanks for watching!

    Very good point you make about running only minimal loads while you sleep. I have a 11kw inverter, it's a dual fuel. I have 25 lbs of propane and 35 gallons of non-eth gasoline. I estimate my run time with that at about 3 days. Not great, I'd prefer to have a week's worth of fuel. Eventually I will buy two 100lb propane tanks which will put me close to 7 days run time (a bit shy). I'd love a smaller unit to run minimal stuff while we sleep, like the furnace, fridge, and some lights. Would save a lot on fuel. But that's just not in the cards anytime soon. Luckily my hot water heater doesn't require electricity to run. Just uses a thermocoupler type thing that generates enough electricity via the pilot light to open and close a small door that allows more gas in to light.

    Same thing happened to me this weekend and I was caught off guard by the surface tension of the oil pulling it back instead of directing to my catch pan. Fortunately, I had cardboard underneath so that caught most of it, but still go some on the sidewalk. Frustrating. The second oil change was much better after tilting the generator but still not as spotless as I'd hoped.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 3 дні тому

      @ I think either approach is OK to either have a whole panel interlock kit or the transfer switch. The benefit to the interlock kit is if you eventually get a bigger generator, you can power everything whereas the transfer switch you will always be limited to those eight or 10 circuits.

    Hey man, great video, if you’re worried about your jumper cables, try some very large Nite Ize gear ties those work pretty well! Save your $$ from buying another set of Jumoer Cables!

    All good information, it is a good thing to balance your load, but with your generator you don't have much to worry about since has a surge rating of 5000 watts, and is rated for only 3900 watts, and less on propane, the switch you have is rated for 12,500 watts, or 6,250 watts for each side, so your generator would not exceed the switches rating if all the power was sent to one side, you should try to have it more balanced if you ever go to a larger generator that is capable putting out more than 6,250 on a single phase.

    Good video. Within the last couple of days I've been seeing people posting on FB prep groups that their Buddy heaters aren't working. In one post, the person showed the BBQ tank, heater and hose. They were using a BBQ tank hose with a regulator on it they bought from amazon. You can't use those, only the ones without the regulator but with the filter to help trap any oils or water from the bigger BBQ tank. I've also added one of those non-electric wood stove fans to mine and it moves the air so much better into a room.

    a little usb fan attached to the handle of the buddy really helps to mix the heat into the room. worth it to spend the 20$ and get the filter for the big tank to keep it in tip top condition and it works with 1# tanks.

    Whatever you choose, use it and become familiar with it before you need it. Pay special attention to runtimes for fuel. I love my "Mr Buddy" heater but a 1lb can lasts maybe 4-5 hours on low so that's a lot of those expensive little cans for a few days supply. These can be run on the larger tanks with a hose but you need a filter. You can refill small cans relatively safely if you do it right, just know that there's a lot more to it than hooking everything together and filling the cans. One nice part about propane is that it stores indefinitely. One bad part is that if the tank is in cold weather you will lose some capacity and in extreme cold propane will not flow at all. You can share the fuel supply with a camp stove and even a lantern for light to make logistics simpler. Have your supply on hand well ahead of time because in a large-area utility outage one of the first things stores run out of is propane. As a stand-alone heat system these little heaters have been a game-changer an a godsend compared to other alternatives.

      I completely agree with you on the importance of familiarizing yourself with your equipment and the fuel supply. Thanks for watching!

    Nice video once again, sir! Was -36 here yesterday, it's getting a bit nippy. Rarely get wind during those kinda temps but this one had some chill factor in it lol. Too bad propane is so expensive here.

    Yes, the propane heater works much better than a 1500 Watt electric heater. Also I have 3 different Carbon Monoxide detectors in my house to make sure the CO levels are safe - they have never been above zero using the portable buddy heater.

    I have used maglites for years as a millwright in a foundry nothing else holds up. When one time in 20 years I had to send it in and they repaired it. I did try another light and it was so bright it white washed everything.

    Recently purchased one of these. The warning on the box says use at least 20 feet away from people, animals, and structures with exhaust pointed away. Not trying to be ugly just don't want anyone harmed. Otherwise interesting results. Lasted longer than I would have thought. Thanks for the information.

    Have you done a cost comparison between propane and gas?

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 8 днів тому

      Propane cost me $20 for 12 hours of runtime vs gasoline which cost a little under $10.00. Propane was basically double the cost for the same 12 hour runtime and propane produces slightly less power. With that being said, for short durations I’d still rather run on propane as it’s cleaner and doesn’t gum up the carburetor. For a long term outage I’d use gasoline as it’s more cost effective
