October is nearing it's end and with that I put together many tracks in the Castlevania series that I so love. From ambient terror to loud symphonics this mix will be perfect for those looking to multitask in the chilly air of the spooky month!
Not every great Castlevania track is present in this mix and for that I apologize.
I grew up on a VHS of old video game guides and one of the games was Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and the sharp music of that game made a huge impression on me. I never had the game but I admired the pixelated visuals and the (terrible) soundchip that created those melodies. The only game in the series I had to play was all I knew the series as and that was Castlevania 64. I struggled to figure out how to play that game as well as my brother and over years of off and on playing and my developing (tiny) brain I managed to make more progress than I ever had seen in the game. I went on to beat the game on every difficulty with both characters, Reinhardt Schneider and Carrie Fernandez. I eventually learned of Legacy of Darkness, the TRUE Castlevania 64. I was only ever able to emulate that game and have since played through it many times. It had so much more to offer and new tracks and levels! It was incredible. No matter how clunky those controls are I will NEVER forget how to play that game with as much skill as I'll gained from those years of trial and error/persistence. At some point in my early days on UA-cam in about maybe 2007 or so I found Symphony of the Night and my entire world flipped right-side up. The absolute pinnacle of Castlevania right there... I only ever had Nintendo consoles until I turned 16 and being able to explore and learn of other consoles and the games they had was eye opening for me. The music in that game absolutely helped turn me into who I am today. The bar was set high with that masterpiece of a game. Another many years later I discovered Castlevania: Curse of Darkness for the PS2. Once again emulation was my solution as this game was nowhere to be found for me. How had I never known of this game?! No one ever talked about it! Who the hell is Hector?! I dove in without a second thought and found Castlevania: Devil May Cry, basically. I fell in love with the music IMMEDIATELY and the gameplay was absolutely incredible. Tight controls and challenging fights that test your reflexes. I admit I've never beaten this game and get as far as learning how to glide and then just getting lost or distracted by other games but that truly is all I needed from the game.
