Rosemaling by Art of Lise
United States
Приєднався 15 лип 2019
Welcome to Rosemaling by Art of Lise. Rosemaling is a Norwegian traditional painted folk art that I have been fortunate to have been doing since the age of 11. Fun little fact , my name is Norwegian for Lisa and pronounced the same way.
For the last couple of years, I’ve had fun putting together videos on my Facebook page, @artoflise1, showing my work and demonstrating. I have had so many people ask me to do more videos, that I decided it was time to share on my own channel. I hope you have fun watching the various videos that I will be posting, learn more about Rosemaling, perhaps start Rosemaling at home yourself, or just sit and enjoy. I’ve been told that I remind people of Bob Ross, and am very ASMR soothing. If you enjoy the videos I post please take the time to subscribe! Happy painting!

Christmas ornament detail Fun and Rosemaling classes information - ASMR video - Art of Lise
Welcome back to my studio for a touch of my freehand painting in the beautiful Norwegian style of Rosemaling called Telemark. In this video, I am finishing a canvas piece using the beautiful line work in Rosemaling that we call detailing. Detailing is what brings our stroke work to life. This follows previous videos where I demonstrate the basics of Rosemaling using the detail brush.
I used the following materials to create the base strokes of this canvas -#4 and #6 Filbert Brush - Z43T Zen by Royal & Langnickel. The video link is shown in this video.
For this video, I am detailing my canvas with a Kingart - Original Gold 9376 - 10/0 Mid-Length Liner.
The colors that I am using are as follows -
Juneberry - Folkart,
Flamingo - Deco Art Americana
14K Gold - Folk Art - Multi Surface
White Pearl - Delta Ceramcoat
Detail paint - Warm White JoSonja by Chroma with medium to an inky consistency using my medium mix.
Greetings from my studio!! Christmas ornament painting is in full swing with orders and Etsy, but I really enjoy sharing the process. In this video I talk about my upcoming classes...which is now past! LOL But I also talk about where you can find more information about learning this wonderful art form called rosemaling!!!
In this video I am painting a 3 3/4" glass ornament. The base strokes are done with the Folkart brand of paint - mult surface - 14 caret gold and Wicker White
I am detailing the ornament with a Kingart - Original Gold 9376 - 10/0 Mid-Length Liner and Wicker White. I have added a touch of water to the white in order for it flow better.
I hope you enjoyed some time with me today. I always appreciate that I am able to share some of the love I have for the wonderful decorative Norwegian Art form called Rosemaling. God Bless and remember it's just paint!!
Please Read below for more info about Rosemaling and where to find Lise!!
What is Rosemaling?
Rosemaling is the traditional painted decorative folk art from Norway that began in the 1600's. Because of Norway's mountainous terrain and hundreds of valleys, the people of Norway had many dialects, native costume, traditions, ext. Norway also had a wealth of artisan traditions to draw from dating from the Viking era. When decorative painting styles reached Norway in the 1600's, it went into all this different areas and created over 15 different styles of Rosemaling, hence making it one of the most interesting folk arts to learn about and to paint. This style is traditionally painted on wood, but may be translated onto other surface areas.

I love watching you.I used to do Rosemalling but my age has stopped me.

Just found this. Beautiful work and wonderful teaching. Grateful for your sharing!!
Thank you so much and I am so glad that you found my channel. I hope you enjoy future videos!!
Great beginner content and a great refresher for all rosemalers! Thank you, Lise, for sharing your knowledge with the world of rosemaling!
Great presentation! Love how you give so much great rosemaling information while you paint.
While the warm white detailing is very lovely, i prefer how the piece looked before the detailing was added.
I know I’m a little late to the party as this video was posted 5 months ago, but I would love a workbook and any other possible learning materials/experiences!
thank you so much, this really helps!!
Do you prepare the ornaments with anything ahead like a glaze mixture or just use your medium mixture with your paint before you paint on glass and or plastic ornaments?
This resembles the Russian Hohlama style very much. I think Norwegians had had some connection to Russians if not they are from one ancestors. Even Odin has his name sounds like one in Russian Один - the one who is chosen, the only true one, the one God. I just feel it.
Your channel has been so useful to me, thank you so much!
Yes! More please!😊
Thank you so much! I only began decorative painting since the pandemic. I will begin to use this!😊
Muito obrigada por compartilhar. Pinto bauernmalerei e vejo que é difícil encontrar um medium que atenda às necessidades. Obrigada por compartilhar!❤️
Love this…. More please. Detailing is my biggest struggle.
I will happily do more videos like this. Thank you for your response!!
I am hoping to learn this so I can put it on my pottery. Beautiful work.
Thank you so much and I love that!! There are some potters that are doing this now and it looks great! I hope that you will be able to incorporate it as well. Thank you again!
Lise, I really want to work on these in October. But, I tried a glass ornament last year and it would not hold any paint or it was too thin. Please advise. Is there a tutorial or technique to help on glass?
Hi, Thank you for reaching out to me about this. I haven't had the issue with the ornament not holding the paint before. What paint brand are you using? I am teaching a class on this, but it isn't until November 21st, I do have past classes that I may be able to share with you.
@@rosemalingbyartoflise7657 thanks, I will watch your videos that have been posted and might sign up for the class but only if I actually practice these strokes first.
What a gorgeous pattern Lise❤❤
Thank you!!!!
Condolences on the loss of your father. That's a very deep pothole to maneuver around. You have been missed. Never doubt that your painting videos are appreciated, as is your message. 🩷
Thank you so very much for your kind words, It is so appreciated on many levels. 💞 It has been a tough year.
So good to hear you plan on more videos - you're wonderful.
Thank you!! It has been a touch year, but I am working on them. Thank you again.
Love watching your videos, Lise. <3. Hope that you are well.
Thank you so much my friend!!!!
So very sorry for the loss of your dad and fur baby. Thank you for making videos- I LOVE watching your paint!! Your work is stunning!
Thank you so much for your kind words, they are so appreciated. Thank you also for loving my work and for reaching out to me. ❤
I love art of Lisa
Thank you!!
❤
Thank you!
Would love to buy a sheet just like you painted on to practice just like you did.
I am working on putting together these practice worksheets. Just figuring out logistics!! I plan to have them out in September. Thank you!
what is the penny for?
Hi and thank you for asking. I actually use the penny for size reference. Very often we use put out more paint then we need, so to demonstrate how much paint I actually put out, I use the penny to show the size difference.
Chloe is so bossy! Just like my 2 dogs...everything is an urgency! They make life so good.
She was a bossy girl. Sadly, she is no longer with me and I miss her terribly. We still have our Boston Ruben, who is now 11 and we have a Bug, Pug/boston, Otis, who is a year and a half. We got him right before we lost Chloe. They are a blessing and they do make life wonderful!
What a beautiful work. I live in Brazil and learned a little of this technique about twenty years ago, but I haven't practiced it for a long time. Could you tell me what the medium is for?
Hello and I apologize for my very slow reply!!! Sometimes I miss the comments along the way. The medium is used to help the paint flow better. I actually just uploaded a video that talks about the medium. The glaze helps with transparency and acts as a barrier between coats, the flow medium thins out the paint and makes it easier for fine detail etc, and the Retarder medium extends the open time of the acrylic paint so that it does not dry out as fast. In Oil paint, the medium, for example, boiled linseed oil, thins the paint out for transparency and finer linework. I hope this was helpful and thank you again for asking!
❤thank you, so beautiful and relaxing! You inspire me to try this style of painting!
Thank you for you kind comment and I apologize for my delayed response. Please give it a try!!!! Thank you again.
❤Thank you so very much! I have some friends, an older couple who's family is heavily rooted in Norway. They loved traveling back and visiting family and also had many beautiful peices and collectables.... tragically their home recently burned down and they barely made it out themselves.... I would like to learn this painting style and create some special artwork for them.
You are so welcome!! I am so sorry to hear about your friends tragedy!! Sending prayers to them and what a wonderful friend you are. Please feel free to watch my videos to help you along the way. I do teach online classes on a fairly regular basis and they can be found on www.rosemalingclasses.com You can also find many other wonderful teachers there. I am working on putting together an on demand teaching site where the classes aren't live but you get tutorials and I hope to have some worksheets/workbooks put together by this fall. If you to on Etsy, you can find my rosemaling page at artoflisecreations.etsy.com, as well as other rosemalers where you may be able to purchase some pieces for your friends as well. Sending prayers to them and thank you to you!
I'm so glad to have found your videos! I've always been interested in rosemaling but never new where to start. I was hoping you might make a video(s) about designing a piece. Such as tips, dos/don'ts, primary components, etc. Thanks!
Thank you so much and I am so glad that you are interested in rosemaling. It is a wonderful art form. There is a website called www.rosemalingclasses.com. This list my classes and other wonderful teachers as well. This can help you on your journey. I love your suggestion and I will see what I can do for that in a video!!
Great.
thank you!!
Enjoyed every minute of this.
Thank you so much!!
I would like to see you paint a small piece of furniture. I love how you teach.
Thank you so much and I will see what I can do!!
No music please, just your voice :)
That seems to be the consensus!! Thank you!!
Please add the pattern for the edging to Etsy. With line work details. I need it lol
I will work on that!!! I am so far behind on putting patterns up on Etsy but they are coming! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing and inspiring, have a beautiful day.
Thank you so much for your kind words and I hope that you have a beautiful day as well!!! Sorry for the very delayed response!!
Are there steps to take if you are preparing a piece for being outdoors? I am planning to paint the sides of my new little library to be outside in my front yard. Thanks!!!
Hello and thank you for asking. First, sorry for my very slow reply...second, I use base paint that is made for outside use. The acrylics that I use to paint with are generally very good for using outside because the flex with the weather. I do use an exterior grade acrylic varnish as well to help the paint last longer. Minwax puts out a decent product for that. Good luck with your little outside library!
Dear Lise, I absolutely love your videos and your didactical skills ☺ I stumbled upon your channel while looking for flowery ideas to paint old doors I am restoring. Your tutorials are excellent and really helped me discover this type of art (I am completely new to painting and never thought I had any talent, but thanks to you the exercises I do are pretty good ☺and yes, I practise, practise, practise). I would love to buy Telemark workbooks from you and also a series of Telemark classes for beginners and onwards. So you have an idea how much I love your "happy little leaves" reminding me of Bob Ross whom you are very much alike in your teaching and warm and funny personality: I would get up at 3 a.m. in my time zone to participate in your evening classes ☺ Also more videos on detailing / embellishments would be very helpful! On workbooks / worksheets: hopefully we can solve shipments overseas (or in an electronical format and I can print them out). Lots and lots of love and admiration for you 🙏❤
Good Morning and I am so sorry for my slow reply!!! I just saw this today and I thank you!!!!! I am so happy you found my channel and I would love to see how your doors turned out! Yeah for practice, practice practice and discovering your art talent! Thank you also for the comparison to Bob Ross. I loved him and painted along with him back in the day. That is an honor to be compared to him. I am working on workbooks/worksheets and more classes. If you check out the website www.rosemalingclasses.com on a regular basis, they will post my classes as well as other teachers. I am working on putting together a email list as well so that I can share information about classes, etc. as well as patterns and all of that fun stuff. I am working on making it so that it is print on demand or electronic transfer so that it is easy for everyone. So many things in the air right not to work on!!!! Thank you again and I so appreciate your kind words!! I hope that you are still painting and I hope this will be a wonderful journey for you!!!
@@rosemalingbyartoflise7657 Dear Lisa, THANK YOU for your precious time you took to reply!!! I am so happy 🙏❤🥰 I will definitely share with you how the doors turned out. It will take some time due to my awful schedule. Also I first have to be content with my rosemalings before daring to paint the doors. In addition, I am first taking the old paint down, then sanding them really well, then repairing them and sanding them again, then grounding, then base coating with a color paint. Plus the frames, which are almost as large in their surface as a door. But you are my inspiration and even if they are done next year, I will send you the result. Wow you painted together with Bob Ross!! 😍🤩👏 So wonderful! You are both so warm and kind and gentle, and so very very talented! (kindred spirits ☺ ) 👏 I am very happy about your practical approach to create patterns and workbooks in a ready-to-print electronic format, much easier to send and we can print as many copies as we need! Looking forward to all your "fun stuff", you are like a fountain of creativity ☺ I do check that page on a regular basis, you had posted and mentioned it in several videos. Looking forward to your classes!! Thank you so much again, all the very best, and lots of good energy for you so that you keep making the world more flowery and beautiful!❤ 🥰
PLEASE do both the course and the workbook. I’ll buy the workbook for myself and all of my nieces and grandma. You’re to me what I imagine bob ross was to a lot of people. I was just thinking how I wish you were on OPB for us here in Oregon so more people would stumble across you. Love this video so much and want to support you as much as possible. Your courses and book would be worth whatever it costs. Hope you’ve been well! Glad to see some videos again 💕
❤️❤️❤️❤️I can’t tell you how much I am touched by your message. I am truly honored to be compared with Ross and though I have had people say that to me before, it still takes my breath away to hear that. I truly appreciate these words, and I will definitely be putting together workbooks. I’m just figuring out how to put it all together! Thank you, thank you thank you❤️❤️
Your instruction is outstandly and you changed my life of art making. Can't thank you enough.
Thank you for your kind words and happy Painting!!!
Finding anything on the details of telemark is impossible online. I would love to see in depth examples of the fine detailing! You always do beautiful linework, I would love to see all the reasons why and strokes! Here or a book would be wonderful!
Hi!! Thank you so much for your comment and kind words about my linework and I apologize that it took me this long to write back!! I am working on putting together workbooks/sheets to help with the strokework and linework. There is so much to learn but starting with the basics helps so much!!! I will do my best to put that together! Thank you again!!
@@rosemalingbyartoflise7657 thank you!
pinta muy bonito, gracias por enseñarnos. Bendiciones
Yes, workbook and beginners classes w/worksheets you can practice on. Maybe laminated so you can practice over and over.
So pleased to see you back here. I could watch you for hours. Would you like to create something simple that I could potentially practice in turquoise blue please, if time permits?
I can certainly do that! And thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so happy that you enjoy my videos. I will be working on all levels of workbooks. I just have to figure it out! Lol.
Would love to learn the different styles here on your channel, thank you for your patience in teaching. God is good indeed 🙏🏼
I notice you combine a number of strokes in detailing, would love some more examples of combo strokes, like for leaves, petals, petal centers.
You are correct that I do combine a number of strokes in my detailing. My style in detailing has developed over the many years of painting and my hand and mind just goes into muscle memory mode while I detail. I would be happy to give more examples in regards to this. Thank you for asking!
Do you use oils or acrylics? I get ill from working with oils and have been working on doing Rosemaling with acrylics. So glad I found this channel. Not many Rosemalers around me to be able to watch and learn from.
Hello! I am painting in acrylics. I began ages ago with oils but switched to acrylics when I started having my kids in the early 2000's. I am really happy that you like the channel and all of the painting that I have done here is in acrylics. No, there are very few rosemalers online doing videos like I have over the past few years. But I am one of a number of rosemalers who do teach online zoom classes. If you go to www.rosemalingclasses.com, you will find good resources for teachers beside myself. I hope that you have a joyful time painting Rosemaling!!
I am really enjoying your channel. I'm wondering how you paint such crisp black beads around that beautiful burled finish. I have trouble with the black from the beading getting on the burled part. Thank you.
Thank you so much for enjoying my channel! Painting beads on these plates are challenging. Over the years I have tried various methods but what I found works for me is using a small flat brush to help paint the bead. I use the chiseled edge of the brush to get the edge between the bead and the burled portion of the plate. Slowly working my way around the plate. I have a piece of paper towel handy to wipe any excess black and also a wipe out tool. It's a slow process, but it works. I will try to do a video going over this soon! I hope this helps a little!!
Thank you so much. Would love a video. Appreciate your time. Will try your tip.
Beautiful
Thank you!!
