A nice winter hike with my daughter, testing out the gimbal. As Johnston Creek approaches the Bow River, it flows through a large canyon formed by erosion over thousands of years. Hi Mountain Dad, looking at doing this same loop this June with my Brother. How achievable is it to complete the 4 objectives you did here in one day? For some context we've climbed Fairview and Temple in the past - so we definitely aren't new at this. Ideally I'd like to do 1. Devil's Thumb 2. Big Beehive 3. Mt. St. Piran 4. Little Beehive

    So how many ways can you get to the Big Beehive/Devils Thumb? I want to know the easiest and shortest way. Thanks.

    • @mountaindad7104
      @mountaindad7104 6 років тому

      the shortest way is to head towards big beehive, once you go up the trail at the back of the lake, head right instead of left at the shoulder. But really, this is a place where you want to take your time, enjoy all around you.

    • @rupman27isback
      @rupman27isback 6 років тому

      About how many miles is it going the shorter way? And is it just as strenuous going this way compared to the other way?

    • @mountaindad7104
      @mountaindad7104 6 років тому

      I remember all 4 objectives worked out to roughly 30km, how strenuous kind of depends on your fitness level, even if you don't go to all 4 places, each destination is a worthwhile hike on it's own. I would just plan to spend a whole day in the area to really get the best experience you can

    • @rupman27isback
      @rupman27isback 6 років тому

      So you said head right instead of left behind the lake.. lake agnes? and is right shorter but a lot more strenuous than going left? how long is left? Sorry for all the questions. I'm sort of fit.. not the fittest.. i hike regularly tho. Im up for a challenge. But i dont want to spend more than 6 hours doing that.

    • @mountaindad7104
      @mountaindad7104 6 років тому

      I think you should be able to knock it off in 6 hours, if you go left you will head up to Big Beehive, a little easier and less steep on an established trail, the devil's digit is an unofficial trail, so watch your footing, once at the top you can determine if you have enough time to fit Big Bee in, from the thumb it would be an easy objective as you will lose elevation, the approach for both is the same until you reach the shoulder, see around the 5 min mark
