How to memorize ANYTHING in Medical School
Medical terminology can be really difficult to memorize at times. Sometimes endless repetition on Anki just isn't enough, and you need to deploy extra tricks to get the results that you want. In this video, I'll discuss etymology, and how it can be super useful in medical school, pre-med, undergrad, or in any other setting that is memorization heavy.

How being lazy can make you more productive
Переглядів 4223 роки тому
I like being lazy. I like being productive. Why not both? Let me know if you like green Joseph or red Joseph better The ego-depletion theory is actually a controversial thing in psychology. there have been papers claiming to disprove it. But regardless of the modifications made to the theory, the practical applications of it still hold true.

super helpful, clear and to the point! thx so much for making this video! you're really saving me rn lol
did you match?
Nice video and super thumb up for the sonic alarm...mine too since elementary school. Good days!
Hhhhhh
Hey Joey! I know this is an old video, but do you feel like this same workflow would work for a school that has 2-3 in house lecture exams per week? Love the video btw
Enjoy every minute of medical school in Ireland; you only have one life to live and I enjoyed your video very much.
How does residency work?
Very nice video but isn't it better to,sometimes, simply not attend the lectures? In brazilian medical school we usually have up to 9 hours of lectures per day, so I don't see myself having time to copy your workflow.

Its nice to see a day in the life ! As a canadian starting GEM at rcsi, I was wondering if you had any advice in terms of accommodations...
What’s this spreadsheet all about? Can you explain your reasoning and workflow with this?
Sir but it costs too much how much does osap cover 50000 euro in tuition
I'm from Alberta which covers a bit more than OSAP. I got some private bank loans as well, but it requires co-signing though which is not always an option.
It's RCSI so the tuition is actually around 60K euros.
Thank you for this video very useful
Glad it was helpful!
The quality of this video does not match your sub count at all. Great work on this!
I appreciate that!
joseph if you make a tiktok account you will get so much more recognition, you should do it to get your views up this video is way to good for only 1000 views
I just realized that this video has really few views, you deserve more attention, great video with awesome quality! I agree with a lot of what you say as well.
Thank you so much!
Bro, use a good microphone. You'll grow in subscribers.. Sorry for the unsolicited advice.
can i use anki for anything that i want to learn? for example programming, school affairs, study a foreign language?
Anki is really great for anything that is memorization-heavy. It is popular for learning languages and medicine for that reason. Areas that are more skill-based (like math and physics) probably won't benefit from using Anki. It just depends on what you're studying.
@@girgisgurgus got it thank you!
Hey! Can you make a video about your experience applying to Ireland as a Canadian?
It's definitely on my list! Can't promise that I'll get around to it anytime soon though lol
Good video. I think categorizing the bulk causes into small groups (eg. infective causes of pancreatitis, metabolic causes, etc) and then input into ANKI would help to remember better.
This is also a very effective tool I use sometimes as well! Thanks for the tip!
Hello, it was a really intersting video. I have a question, Whats the difference between "quizz and recall" and "Flash cards"?
Hey! Quiz and recall (or active recall as I like to call it) is just the general term for asking yourself questions. Flash cards are a type of active recall (and are my favorite type). But you can use active recall in other ways! Examples might be quiz style notes, doing practice questions, quizzing with friends etc...
Thank you this is amazing info for me it's so simple but never actually understood why we remember feel more confident in memorizing. a very effective way to learn what was missing in my studying and wouldn't have actually noticed if it wasn't broken down. thank you again.
I’m glad the video helped :)
lol'd @ 6:36
Lol
This video is so underrated
Thank you!
I've been using the etymology for the most part after 1st year of Med School. It also helps a lot for anatomy! In anatomy, it gives you an idea of how the anatomists had first seen the organs as! Cauda Equina is 1 of my favourite examples from the many. The horses tail. When you look at it in anatomy class, it truly looks like a horse's tail! Crista Gali? The rooster's crest. Because it looks like the crest of the rooster. Falciform ligament? The "Falci" is usually "Sickle", "form" meaning "shape"! So Sickle Shaped! and Falci can be seen in words like Plasmodium Falciparum and Falx Cerebri. The answer usually lies in the Greek and Latin! My personal favourite is Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi ;)
I totally agree! I should have touched on anatomy because that's a GOLDMINE for etymology usefulness. My favorite is the atlas in the cervical spine, which comes from the greek myth of atlas holding up the world (your skull)
@@girgisgurgus Yeah mine! no worries though! Still a very good video!! Atlas related to Greek Mythology was just beautiful! Theres so many amazing translations in the body thats pretty cool :)
