    Scoring will always be more important than defense. And it's not just because it's more eye-catching. When you block or make a great steal, you do it against one player at a time. That's great. But when you make a great shot, whether it be a two or a three pointer, you do it against an entire team. The entire opposing team then has to figure out a way to make up that deficit. Kobe once outscored an entire team by himself through three quarters. I believe it was the Dallas Mavericks. If the game had ended there, then Kobe technically would have won the game by himself. There is no equivalent to that kind of impact on the defensive end of the floor. I say all of that to say, Manu definitely should have been the Finals MVP in 2005. In addition, Dirk Nowitzki is extremely underrated, given that he beat Duncan, Manu and Parker in the playoffs without another Hall of Famer of All Star player by his side.

    • @HoopNuke
      @HoopNuke 2 дні тому

      The point is true, offense is more important than defense, but often times defense leads to offense, not to mention that good defense has a psychological effect on the opposing team. If a good shot blocker is in the paint and you already got blocked 3 times, you'll think twice before going in there. In my opinion the ratio of offense to defense is 60-40 but most people completely disregard the 40, which is very sad

    • @cyber6sapien
      @cyber6sapien День тому

      @@HoopNuke I don't necessarily agree with that particular ratio, but I agree with the premise. Offense and defense _do_ go hand in hand. But defense has to be empowered by the rules that are in place, in order to have that type of impact on the game. Under today's rules, NBA defenses are severely handicapped. An extraordinarily gifted defender like Wemby can still make an impact. But he is one of one in any generation.

    Imagine they made contracts more about winning where guaranteed is based on playoff position, then full value for championship. Pay to win, Paid when won.

    • @HoopNuke
      @HoopNuke 2 дні тому

      yea this would be super interesting but hard to balance, the contracts today are super high, but that's because the revenue is super high in general. If players were getting paid for their wins only, they would feel like the billionaire team owners that don't do anything are robbing them.

      The Spurs usually go for more chill guys, if you look at all of their stars, from Timmy to Tony Parker to Kawhi they are all dudes that put the team infrot of their individual success, KG is a great player but not many people can play with the same core for 16+ years, that in itself is a skill that most players don't have

      I think a lot of people overlook that, the media mostly talks about individuality in a team sport, which just never made sense to me. A very objective analysis of his highs and lows without making much excuses for the lows. Has a top-10 worthy resume but one could make an argument for 11 players ahead of him too (MJ, Russell, Kareem, Hakeem, Wilt, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, Mikan). Some KG fans even argue KG had just as great a statistical career but played on a worst team. Dont know if the fandom can ever reach a near-consensus on where to rank Duncan.

      @@BrandonParker10101 No im not bias because i disagree with your top 4 thats not how it works. Some of you ppl really cant handle when someone doesn’t have the same opinion as you. Kareem and bron being in anyones top 3 is pure casual fan nonsense. Kareem dominated nothing during his prime in the 70’s the worst era with no legit dynasties standing in his way OR a 2nd star to compete with ( example KD and lebron all those years ) and always needed the best PG in the NBA to win chips. Magic and oscar. And his only chip without magic is fools gold. They only won in ‘71 cause jerry west pulled his hamstring and didnt play in the wcf matchup LA was there only comp then in that trash pre merger NBA. LA plays the bucks again in ‘72 west plays this time and they beat the bucks bad look. After that in the 70’s Kareem was either missing the playoffs, loosing as the favorite like in ‘73, or just coming up short like loosing game 7 of the finals AT HOME in ‘74 and being outplayed by dave cowens in that game 7. Ppl only put him here cause of contextless accolades and resume. On top of magic and and oscar he also ALWAYS needed a 3rd star to win. Even on the bucks in ‘71 they had bob dandridge AND jon mcglocklin And lebron lmao your either a causal or just eat the garbage the meida feeds us. All he does is team hop, team stack, just to continually loose. Started 0-2 in the finals and has been playing catch-up ever since. He’s never ever had a positive finals record No. And bill and wilt in the top 5 is laughable. Playing in a jim crow nba. Not even close to a legit talent pool. Im fine with magic and MJ. Wilt bill and larry bird aint better then no damn kobe bryant. No

    • @BrandonParker10101
      @BrandonParker10101 4 дні тому

      @ Reasonable take if your going to throw away career accolades as if they mean nothing like 11 rings(Bill) or 1st in All Time scoring records (Kareem/Lebron). If your purely looking at the peak abilities of a player it would make sense, but in general people look at both to determine their all time list. Thats prob why you think its casual, but its just the truth. Also, the disrespect for Bird is real... There is a reason he was Magic's rival back in the day and was one of the first to play an all rounder game with scoring, rebounding and assisting. One of the few players that would be able to keep up with todays game. If your making a list on pure peakness, I agree it would look different. Would be interested in knowing your top 10, if im really that wrong then educate me otherwise you gotta agree my list is the best you ever seen. 🤷‍♀

      @@joshuawark6476not hating either, both players are arguably goated on defense & have offense to match. I’d give Hakeem the edge on that end of the court though.

      @ He never had to play against Jordan's bulls but I will concede it is a fair point. It doesn't put Him in Hakeem's league for me, though.

    There’s no stakes in the nba cup. The winner of the cup should get one extra win in the win column on their record. It could end up being a tie breaker for them in playoff seeding. Also they should use it as experimentation for rule changes. Allow things like no defensive three seconds and increased physicality to the games or even just do fiba rules. Also I think people are turned off by the idea that these guys get paid more for the games too

      exactly, the NBA thought if they just give it a name and a little trophy that it would suddenly matter, when competitions don't really work like that in real life

    @HoopNuke stop giving excuses for LeBron FFS

      Is it an excuse or truth, did I get any information wrong there. As far as I know he was 22, the second best scorer was Drew Gooden and Spurs had more experience and a better team. I don't see what a 22 year old player can do there when the defense only has to guard him but you tell me what was wrong in that statement, and find me another 22 year old that did a better job playing alone. The loss was bad but expected

    I got Duncan 8-10

    Ok, I disagree with TD not being in a serious goat conversation. He should be on the ranks of MJ, Kareem, LeBron and Russell.

      I think there is definitely a discussion there, especially when you consider how good he was defensively and also who he had to guard

      @HoopNuke One championship Parker carried them and another Manu did. I suppose Duncan might have been the most important player. But a scorer who could break down the defense was always required to win.

    Tim Duncan is to a PF position like Michael Jordan is to a SG position. The Absolute GOAT. His battle vs Nowitzki (the second greatest PF) was amazing. Top 3 player easy, just behind MJ and Magic.
