Hi Francy! Are you preparing for Cambridge Advanced?

Me again :) Francy, the tips you find on this channel can be a great starting point for C1 learners too. Many of my B2 students have successfully used these techniques to ace their Cambridge First exams passing the Speaking Paper with a level C1. While it's true that native speakers don't typically overload their speech with all these linkers, discourse markers, and idioms, these language features are highly valued in Cambridge exams. It's a strategic approach to maximize your score, even if it might sound a bit unnatural in everyday conversation. I'm convinced that exam performance and real-world fluency are two different skills! ;) Anyway! I'm planning to dive deeper into some B2+/C1-level vocabulary and idioms (about the media) in an upcoming video, so stay tuned for that! @marcogaiotto2028 hello Marco! Sorry for the late reply. Answers A, B and C are all correct. I would change D to "needn't have brought" because I get the impression that Beth DID bring her hairdryer and shampoo not knowing that they would be provided by the hotel. The action of bringing them wasn't necessary but it was carried out all the same because Beth didn't know she didn't need to.

@@marcogaiotto2028 hi Marco. You are absolutely correct - you can also use "didn't need to" in D. 'Didn't need to" doesn't tell us whether the action happened or not (maybe it did, like in this case, maybe it didn't). However, if the exercise asks you to choose ONE OPTION only, go for 'needn't have'.

@@aka_KIKKO Bravissimo! Giusto. "He helped me (to) move the boxes" (con o senza il 'to', è indifferente). I can't help smiling every time I think about him ( can't help + ing per dire "non posso fare a meno di ..."). Intendevi questo?

@@LearnEnglishWithLisaT sì esatto, perciò utilizzo un verbo alla forma in -ING quando ci si riferisce ad un’azione che non possiamo controllare (es “I can not stop laughing”). Mentre un verbo all’infinito in tutti gli altri casi?

@@aka_KIKKO sì, CAN'T HELP+ING vuol dire "non poter fare a meno di". In tutti gli altri casi usa l' infinito (o la forma base) del verbo.

Vero! Errore molto comune! Molti pensano che agree sia un aggettivo.

Ciao Anna! Potresti prendere un punteggio di livello B2, ma ti daranno cmq una certificazione B1. Anni fa preparavo uno dei miei studenti al Preliminary B1. Aveva iniziato a studiare inglese un po' tardi -- aveva un fortissimo accento italiano ed era molto insicuro nel parlare. . Confesso che ero molto preoccupata per la sua speaking....However, era uno studente diligente e studioso. Mise in pratica ogni piccolo consiglio e con mia ENORME sorpresa superò la speaking con un punteggio B2. Ha ricevuto il certificato Preliminary e non First. Superare BENE un esame Cambridge diventa più facile se si comprende cosa vogliono gli esaminatori. Queste frasi possono essere molto utili. Per il B1, nella descrizione della foto: This picture was taken inside/outside and it shows a person/people who is/are. Usa tante espressioni per dire dove sono cose e persone (in the background/in the foreground). Usa frasi per dire cosa CREDI stia accadendo (they SEEM to be +ING). Usa perhaps/maybe e i verbi modali per esprimere ipotesi. Alla fine, se vuoi far colpo, un bel secondo condizionale per dire come ti sentiresti in quella situazione (If I were in that situation, I would feel....happy/worried/ relaxed because...). Hope that helps!

Mi spiego meglio, perché nella fretta di rispondere, non credo di aver risposto alla tua domanda😅Se superi alcune o tutte le parti dell' esame B1 con punteggio B2 purtroppo non ti daranno un certificato di livello B2. Un B1 superato con punteggio B2 in realtà non equivale al B2 (che è molto più complesso). Però significa che sei a buon punto nella preparazione per lo step successivo!

Io sto per fare l'esame Cambridge B1, e mi hanno detto che potrei prendere ,se supero il punteggio,anche un B1+ ,conferma? in più adesso mi chiedo se potrei prendere anche un livello inferiore and esempio A2 se non arrivo al risultato del B1 .... È possibile? Grazie

L' informazione che ti hanno dato purtroppo non è esatta. Se si sostiene il B1 Cambridge, anche se lo si supera con punteggio massimo equivalente ad un B2, Cambridge non dà una certificazione B2. . Non esiste neppure una certificazione B1+. Se l'esame B1 non dovesse andare bene e non lo si supera, si riceve un certificato di livello A2. Nel caso delle certificazioni per lo spagnolo, CREDO che invece se si sostiene un esame e lo si supera brillantemente, si possa ricevere una certificazione di livello superiore. Cambridge non lo fa.

Grazie a TE, Daniela! Sei sempre gentile ed i tuoi commenti always make my day! Io sono alla soglia dei 50 e per ragioni lavorative/punteggi graduatorie un paio di anni fa ho sostenuto l' esame C2! Immagina, pieno agosto a Roma, temperatura rovente ed ero lì, come candidata e non come teacher, a sostenere l' esame insieme a due ragazze di liceo appena rientrate da in anno scolastico negli Stati Uniti. Ero un po' a disagio vista la differenza di età, ma mi sono divertita da pazzi :) sono esami forse un po' costosi, ma davvero ben strutturati e una volta superati fonte di soddisfazione personale e motivazione a continuare sempre a migliorarsi. Se mai ti venisse voglia di prepararne uno non pensare all' età. Ne vale la pena secondo me. Have a great weekend x
