      Hi Kathy@fcbdstyle This is Mish Mish. Just a little FYI. I first formed the group in 1989 or 90? We were originally called the Gypsy Moor Dancers. After I left theft & retired from dance in 1992, the group then changed the name to Habbi Ru. John led everyone believe he formed the group, but he did not!!!

    The guitarist is my dad! I am so proud to be his daughter, the flutist with the long hair is my uncle. Wish I was born sooner to see them play.

      I knew them growing up. I would look for them just to hear them play by the bay in Seward and at the fair in Palmer. If you see them again, tell them all I said hello!!

    The music is different from what we hear in our days. And the costumes seams to me more like a traditional costumes? And the dance. Is it a traditional dance from a specific place?

    • @faerykat
      @faerykat 3 роки тому

      The music is played with mostly Egyptian instruments. This particular rhythm is for a dabke dance. Many dabke dances are from Lebanon, although folkloric line dances are common all over the Middle East, including Israel. The costumes they have on are primarily Egyptian, with the black and silver fabric of their tunics being specifically from Assiut Egypt. The look of this troupe is folkloric and purposely not modern. The Trader's market area at the Renaissance Faire was meant to showcase cultures and wares from along the Silk Road in the Elizabethian Renaissance time period.

    Unfortunately its only Audio. Hoping someone somewhere has some live video footage they can post. This is the opening and beginning of the show coming down through the audience and getting on stage. The first half of the show was Middle Eastern then second half Balkan. It was so much fun. Best time of my life!

      I enjoyed your shows. When I was younger, I almost found a teacher a couple of times to learn Middle Eastern dance but something always happened to interfere. Oh well, just wasn’t meant to happen. 😁

    Hi Carrie...glad u found my downloads and also knowing what a fan you are. It was such a fun show to be in. Loved these Guli's!!!! Just wishing we could find some good live footage especially the years I was dancing in the group 73/74. I know lots of people out there at the Faires had their video cameras going. Hope someone will post one day....
