Haven’t been to this area yet. I am on Hilo side. Looks great for an overnight stay. is there a reef to explore? Appreciate you sharing this.
Can any vehicle with good ground clearance do this drive, or is 4x4 required? Thanks
Depends on if it's been raining. If the road is dry I'd say any vehicle with the clearance should be fine. If it's been raining though, some sections of the road will be muddy and/or washed out. It could get dicey in a 2WD in that case.

Hey what road do I take to get on that road ?
As you are heading down South Point Road, go left at the fork before the old windmills. Keep going once the pavement ends -- you'll be on the road. This is the coordinates of the fork. 19°00'06.5"N 155°39'54.2"W
Cam Wipper do you need a permit to camp? Are the gates always unlocked?
No permits required. I've never seen the gates locked.
@@camwipper so that basically means that Ka'alu'alu Road is a private road because it has gate
@@lelandalvarez8940 The majority of the road is on Hawaiian Home Lands pasture and ranching land. The gates are for ranching purposes to control livestock movements. The land near the bay is owned by Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools -- so yes, this part is private. However, Bishop Estate has a long history of allowing public access to their lands (Waipio Valley shoreline and Makalawena Beach are some examples). Malama the area and show aloha to other people on the road and you won't have any issues.

I can't believe I am lucky enough to be living out here in Hawaii, one of the most geological active places in the world. Can't wait to start my under grad studies soon! I love Geology!
My Geology professor told me that was coined by the park rangers because they were sick of people taking rocks from the park, which is also illegal.

We didn't walk from Kaimu Beach. We walked from the County Viewing Area at the end of Highway 130. It took a little over an hour from there.
Nah man, exact opposite. You don't wanna take any rocks off the island: Pele's Curse. Bad luck.
