The way the sword grip makes that "palm slap" and "swish "after he stabs the soldier in the neck and flips it perfectly back into his own bound hands is subtle but makes the scene.

One of my favorite lines ever. I say it all the time on cold and frosty mornings.

Having the praetorians blade stick and him unsure of it is a great small detail. Maximus knows through experience, the the praetorian being a glorified guard hasnt had to pull his blade.

Sometimes a movie is so great it doesn't need a sequel. As a matter of fact, a sequel taints the legacy of the original movie.

Maximus had true superpowers. He was able to go from a kneeling position, to jumping in the air within a millisecond to headbutt the guy, (while making the sword disappear) then teleport back to kneeling position with sword reappearing infront of him for him to grab. Remarkable man.

Sequels, sometimes it causes the legacy to stink

The frost, sometimes it makes the tongue stick to the telephone pole

My one and only complaint about this part... is him using the blade to stab with while holding the edges and not hurting his own hands. YES he could have smacked the first guy with the back of it and not hurt his hands as he's simply swinging it at that point, but when he turned around and 'stabbed' with it, that'd put up/down force across his hands right where the sharp edge of the blade is.

Such a great scene. The purple cloaks & the leather breast plates of the Praetorian guards. Plus, a Praetorian wouldn't know about the frost in the scabbard being stationed in Rome.
